I think I might've commented regarding this in the YT upload or somesuch, so I'm glad to see the additional info! I think one thing that is good to keep in mind is that on a lot of the routes, it is straight-up faster to not drift, since the curves are not very sharp and so it's basically like trying to drift on a straightaway (i.e. only good in some Mario Karts, but not this one). And since half the laps (on average) per GP are on a route (or the vast majority in a knockout tour), that difference can lead up to a lot, especially if you haven't played all the actual tracks a bajillion times and can't make up for that time by drifting all that effectively. As you've demonstrated with your stats, eventually you can just win either way.
