Listen, I love the Mikaelsons and I can't handle the idea of ANY of them dying. But with that SAID, Marcel was spitting some facts and I can not blame him for how he is feeling right now

Yes I stayed up till 3AM to watch this. No I’m not ashamed.

Charles Michael Davis’s performance was fucking phenomenal this episode! Marcel was gagging everyone the entire time, every time he opened his mouth it was straight facts 😭 (as much as I love the Mikaelsons)

I think one of the oft overlooked statements that Marcel makes this episode is when he says he never tried to be Klaus’s better until Klaus started trying to keep him down. The show constantly goes back to Marcel’s history as a slave so it simply can’t be ignored when discussing his feelings towards the Mikaelsons. He spent most of his early years of life living under brutal subjugation, and we’ve seen pretty much since the start of the show that being under someone else’s control is a huge trigger for him. And he’s spent most of this season specifically being subservient to the Mikaelsons and talked down to by Elijah in particular. On the bridge, he flips from furious to bubbling over with rage not because of Davina, but because once again, Klaus and Elijah were trying to control him. It’s like Klaus didn’t even listen to anything Marcel was saying this episode because when push came to shove, he just reverted to the person Marcel despised. Edit: OMG you touched on this in your discussion and this is EXACTLY why I love you as a reactor! 👏🏾

Honestly, it’s almost insulting when any of the Mikaelsons refer to Marcel as family at this point. Even Hayley gets treated more like family than he does. Freya too despite knowing them for a year while Marcel has known them for over 2 centuries. Fact is, Elijah never would’ve done to Hayley what he did to Marcel, nor would Klaus have ever sacrificed Cami to save himself and that says it all. Side note: Elijah and Hayley sleeping together right after he killed Marcel felt in extremely bad taste to me.

I think the Mikaelsons wanted to believe that Marcel was their family, they told that to themselves so often over the years they didn't notice anymore that it wasn't true. I think Klaus wanted to raise Marcel as his son to prove to himself that he is better than Mikael in that regard (at least in the beginning). Marcel and Klaus did have a relationship similar to that of a father and son at times, but I don't think Klaus truly knew what having a child was like until Hope was born. But at that point he told himself that Marcel was his son for two centuries, and that kind of blinded him to see the difference. If we would just pretend that an adult Hope would have wanted to take the serum, I don't think neither Klaus nor Elijah would have had a problem with that.

Yesss this is the episode I've been waiting for

On the last question asked, "The family have all threatened to hurt or kill each other but none of them have ever done it except Finn" I do want to point out the first time we meet Elijah in TVD he is fully intending on killing Klaus, because he thought Klaus had taken the rest of his family from him. He had his hand around Klaus's heart, and it wasn't until Klaus said that the family wasn't buried at sea that Elijah changed his mind. So in the name of family, Elijah would have even killed Klaus. Before coming to New Orleans, they though Marcel was already dead for over 100 years. And before that, he had to distance himself from Marcel because of Klaus's jealousy, so I think other than when they first took Marcel in, Elijah never looked at him as a nephew, just as Klaus's adopted son I do not at all think this excuses the way he has treated Marcel this episode/season though. I fully agree that it is him and Freya's actions most of all that pushed Marcel to this point, but Klaus' too. As you said, Klaus almost had Marcel talked down, but that was only because he didn't know about the serum. As soon as he did, his stance changed. He would never have killed Marcel imo, but he still didn't want him becoming strong enough to kill them all

I also love how watching this show you forget that the Originals have never actually been "the heroes", they're just so entertaining and great main characters. People are constantly trying to kill them and it's usually justified, but we still always root for the Mikaelsons. But with Marcel's speech, you can't deny that they are the villains to many people, and have been for thousands of years, and this episode makes you wonder as the viewer if you really should be rooting for them

Catherine Noble

I'm very unsophisticated and obvious with my allegiances. I root for whoever the 'central' characters are, no matter what 'evil' things they might do. In TVD and TO, they are vampires, I fully expect them to do evil things! So, in TVD, it's Stefan and Damon (I was always 'meh' about Elena!). In this show, it's Elijah and Klaus and to some extent Rebekah. Anyone else...ANYONE else...is expendable. To be honest, I never liked Marcel, from S1E1, and Davina has plotted to kill the Originals on a number of occasions, especially Klaus. I don't mind her as a character, but I didn't cry at her death. Cami, yes, but Marcel and Davina, no. Now, I've seen both of these shows before, so I'm not gonna say too much more. People become villains against their will sometimes.

I am an Elijah stan, he is my fav character throughout the whole series, but when it comes to this episode Marcel was spitting facts tbf. I also think there was that immediate regret from Elijah, because you can see his hand literally shaking just after he kills Marcel, you can also see him literally fall to his knees and breaking down when telling Hayley. The 'I had no choice' stance he is taking I believe he is only saying that to try and gaslight himself into thinking that he had no choice because of the guilt he feels.

Elizabeth Gates

I think it's so ironic that Kol literally killed Davina and yet their relationship and communication are still some of the best in the Vampire Diaries universe.

John Walker Is That Dude

well this isnt the first time marcel has tried to kill them did u forget marcel calling Mikael to murder them i did. so u expect Elijah to think he wont follow through on his threat hes tried many times to kill them remember in season 1 marcel asks davina to find a way to kill them when he had elijahs staked body

John Walker Is That Dude

Marcel is the biggest villian to the entire people who have called new orleans and the bayou home. remember when marcel called mikael to murder them. marcel is the main villian to the humans, witches and werewolves here cuz of his bigotry towards them unlike him when the Mikaelsons created and ran the city everybody became equal the moment Marcel called Mikael he looked down on any and evertbody who arent vampires. If the Mikaelsons were villians Klaus would have never freed him and kept it moving he didnt.

Kitty Underwood

I never said Marcel wasn't a villain too, just that he calls attention to the fact that the Mikaelsons have been the villain in thousands' of peoples lives over the thousand years they have been alive
