Not me refreshing my notifications right when you uploaded this lol

Also, reading your caption, I will say that a lot of these characters will both piss you off, and endear you to them. They are all extremely flawed, but loveable

Btw when Quentin said "I let it go" he didn't mean he let the friendship go, although obviously their friendship was on the rocks. What he meant was, because she is his friend, he didn't tell Brakebills that she had her memory, because he didn't want to "tell" on her. I don't agree with how he acted in that conversation, but that is what he meant by that

Ohhh thank you, that was a full on assumption as I was a little confused when he said it in the first place

Like Kitty said, all the characters in this universe are horribly fucked up, in the most realistic way possible. However, I have ALWAYS found myself having a VERY SOFT corner for Quentin because I relate to him the most. Even though my life trajectory is nearly identical to Julia's , the academic success and validation, burning out, being very one-track minded, etc. Quentin always seemed like someone who just doesn't filter himself or think before blurting stuff out. Like he seems to be brutally honest and awkwardly so, most of the time. So, it makes sense to me that he would not think rationally and emotionally-cleverly about the hedge witches minutes after Elliot, someone older than him at the school, who he clearly likes and respects, oh oh and also Elliot was the one showing Q around, remember? Like even all his first impressions of the school, the cliques, everything is what Elliot showed him. So, Elliot occupies this Narrator-like voice in his head where he takes Elliot word for whatever because he has experience in this world. also I don't think saying that Julia didn't have feelings for him was him punishing her, I think it just adds to his inferiority complex in front of Julia. Like honestly the idea that I had a crush on my best friend, and if they knew about it for years, never addressed it, it is super fucking humiliating. Like unknown unrequited love is one thing, but for it to be known?? Bury me pls. I would like to dig a grave that hopefully gets to the core of the Earth so that no trace of my existence remains pls and thank you.

I do think throwing that in her face wasn't nice, but also I don't think he's actively out here hating her for not loving him back, it's just his inner child and inferiority coming out. Him saying that she hung out with him for pity isn't how SHE feels, it's how HE feels. Baby is projecting and it is obvious. But again, for some reason, it never annoyed me, just made me understand Q more and love him as a character. Also throughout that conversation he kept on adding that its not safe for Julia because that's the idea he got from Elliot, like he's not leaving their friendship, that is the worst fear he has, that Julia would one day stop "pitying" him and leave him. I think his sudden jump from being inferior to Julia, to suddenly being kind of superior to her (I only say this because he got in Brakebills and she got rejected) plays a HUGE part in that conversation with her. Like Elliot literally told him that one person ahem-ahemed him for a spell. Ain't no way if their way of getting knowledge is blackmailing people and what-not, that the knowledge is safe for magic users. And he learnt about Alice's brother using and combining the wrong kinds of magic even for a good cause ending up dead.

okok last point, in the Julia saying that magic is as important to her as Quentin is kinda bull, like I get it, it's magical and like a drug if it seems unattainable ( the Adderall comparison is kinda right there), but Julia baby don't act like you didn't give Quentin a whole ass lecture in the first episode about giving up the fantasy of magic and Fillory (which was valid if magic wasn't real, trust me I'm not saying she was wrong with the info she had), but Quentin never stopped believing and finding joy in these stories. The way he acted as if someone did all his laundry and cleaned his house when he found out about the sixth Fillory book was just a glimpse into HOW MUCH this has literally saved his life. I don't know, it just irks me when Julia compares her love for magic with Q, because Quentin was literally out here ready being perceived as a child and immature due to being obssessed with magic and Fillory. Dunno seems like that is just a me thing but just a little something I wanted to add.

Also in this episode Dean Fogg was talking about how dangerous magic can be, especially if you learn spells out of order, while at the same time was showing Julia learning spells without a proper curriculum
