A bit of a funny fact after that ending — you know the ship name for Aziraphale and Crowley is Ineffable Husbands, but the ship name for Gabriel and Beelzebub is Ineffable Bureaucracy and was coined by fans at the end of season 1

You are all good to do a deep dive by the way! Yes, season 3 would be based on a book…kind of. It’s based on ideas that the authors had for a sequel to the original book (which is all covered in season 1), but the book was never released due to the passing of one of the authors. So, there are no spoilers out there, only lots and lots of fan speculation.

Great reaction as always! Btw, not to justify Aziraphale's decision in any way because he absolutely did make the wrong decision here, but just reminding you that Aziraphale didn't actually see Gabriel's trial and thus didn't know that they were going to punish him. In general a lot of the bad things that Heaven has done have only been witnessed by Crowley, and the ones that Aziraphale's seen as well he's always just brushed them off by saying he doesn't believe that's actually what God wants. He definitely has a very limited view of Heaven in the sense that despite everything he still sees Heaven as inherently good. He's lived by Heaven's rules for so long that it's very difficult for him to suddenly see it any differently. I also think that after hearing he could take Crowley with him and reinstate him as an Angel his mind got so wrapped up in the idea of going back that he couldn't detach himself from it even when Crowley said no. I don't think Aziraphale thought that becoming the Supreme Archangel was more important to him than being with Crowley, but because it all happened so quickly and his emotions were all over the place he couldn't see any other alternative in the moment. Hopefully this means that in season three (WHICH WE WILL GET!!) after having had some time to think about it he'll end up realising he made the wrong decision and tries to somehow find a way to get back to Crowley.

Ahhhhh I forget he didn't see all that, okay makes a LOT more sense now then. It didn't feel right that after seeing that he would still have so much faith so thanks for the correction!

there's a really popular fan theory after this season dropped (that the fanbase is very divided on) that the metatron did some kind of magic on the coffee he gave aziraphale - partly because they put such emphaisis on it and have such a long scene with the metatron and nina and the whole "give me coffee or give me death" conversation - i'm not entirely sure on the specifics but the general gist is the coffee did SOMETHING to aziraphale - one theory (there are mutliple surrounding this damn coffee) suggests maybe it was "poisoned" to kill him if he said no to taking gabriel's position and perhaps even the matatron threatened him with it in their conversation? they just make such a big scene of him drinking the coffee. like yeah, it could just be a manipulation tactic on the metatron's part to make aziraphale trust him but it's interesting to think about there being extra ulterior motives behind it. i'm not sure how i feel about it. i'm of the mindset that the thing that truly swayed aziraphale WAS the whole "oh and you can take your demon boyfriend to heaven with you too, that's totally fine!" it would certainly be in character for aziraphale. and even if crowley said no, he'd still choose to go because to him the fact they even allowed crowley to come if he agreed could be a sign that heaven might be open to change if they were willing to reinstate a demon/former angel into it's ranks. his naiveity to only see the best in heaven and see them as the good guys despite their faults is what ultimately will be his downfall. we don't know what heaven has planned with the second coming (whether that's the second coming of the antichrist or something else) - or what they have planned for aziraphale. why did they need him specifically? anyway. i hope we hear news about season 3 soon - considering it took 4 years for season 2 to drop i can imagine we'd have to wait a fair amount of time for season 3 even without all these delays T-T

Thanks for your excellent & insightful reactions to this series so far. I know it's a super bittersweet season ending, but I think it makes sense for Aziraphale's character at this point in the story. If you view his actions through the lens of religious trauma, he has not come to terms with the reality of heaven and the incompatibility of what he actually wants (to do good and be with Crowley) and what heaven wants (to end life on Earth). He still believes heaven is there to do good, and I think he only fully grasps what Crowley has known this whole series at the moment when the Metatron says they're going to bring about the second coming. But by then he feels he's lost Crowley and made a commitment, and he may as well try to avert disaster from within. I look forward to S3, and I think Azi will spend part of it figuring out who he is as an individual, rather than an agent of heaven. BTW, since you've mentioned loving the vibes of this show a few times, I think you would really enjoy Our Flag Means Death. It's a bit slow at the start (most folks feel the first 3 episodes are solid but it's fantastic from 4 on), but it's got a very similar cozy vibe, it's very (very) queer - not queerbaity - and inclusive, and has a lovely story. It's two seasons with an actual conclusion even though they aimed for three seasons, and there's a big cross over between folks who like Good Omens and folks who like OFMD. While I would be ecstatic for you to react to it, I hope that one way or another you'll check it out.

Helmi

Omg yes, I'd love to see Harry reacting to Our Flag Means Death! It can definitely take a few episodes to warm up to, but the wait is so worth it. I personally like Good Omens a little more because I'm just so attached to Crowley and Aziraphale, but OFMD is really good too!

You were already my favorite reactor, but knowing you read Ao3 definitely gives you a few extra cool points
