I think Kira's mum knew what they were capable of but she based her decision off of the assumption that it would possess her and that she would be able to control it once she healed. I don't think she thought any deeper beyond that due to the whole pile of dead bodies about to be burned situation

So, you bringing up what type of kitsune Noshiko was actually made me think I'd never looked into it, so I did. I don't know if you've looked into this yourself but it's never really stated in the show and knowing doesn't really impact anything to my knowledge, so it's not a spoiler. I'm actually kind of sad they didn't delve into the types of fox more, I love the fox spirit stories. The creator said in an interview that she is actually a Celestial kitsune ('Tengoku' - translating to heaven/ light in some cases), and your reasoning was actually really interesting, but I will say in a lot of stories about these fox spirits they tend to live a long life, some pieces of literature even say they get a tail every 100 years, and after 1000 reach full power, although there are other variations from a lot of East Asian cultures. Korea has it's Gumiho (these stories have them eating hearts and livers and more consistently on the evil side) and China has the Huli Jing, all fox type spirits with similar trickster temperaments and shapeshifting abilities. I don't know the creators reasoning for picking Celestial, but kudos on getting that right. I know this type in stories tend to be fairly powerful. They're also teachers, which I suppose makes sense with Noshiko's disposition thus far. Enjoying these reactions x

I always presumed noshiko was a celestial kitsune she’s seen calling upon spirits like the oni and nogitsune and that seems like some celestial being type shit dealing with summoning spirits and stuff
