We have a winner! Gonna leave this here and dip before spoilers heh but I am very exicted to get into this show, heard great things with somehow 0 idea what its actually about which is my favourite way to go in. Expect it out sometime tomorrow evening along with 9-1-1!

These are questions for the first episode but also throughout the series: -In real life, everyone has their own understanding of events that may differ from the other people who experienced the same thing. In IWTV, Louis is relaying his side of the story decades later in the form of giving an interview to a third party. How much do you trust Louis as a narrator? -Louis and Daniel first tried this interview in 1973. Now, they're doing it again. What do you think is Louis' goal behind doing both interviews? -The past flashbacks are much warmer-colored than the present interview. Do you have any thoughts about why this is? Is it just meant to differentiate the two or is that symbolic? Oh - just a fun fact: the opening credits with the city skylines change depending on where the events of the story are taking place, so currently, it's in New Orleans (past) and Dubai (present)

during the church scene, louis is obviously very fearful of lestat after everything he has seen him do, including killing the priest right in front of him, and clearly has a lot of humanity in him but then he agrees to becoming a vampire at the very end - what do you think it is about lestat or about louis’ situation e.g losing his brother that has him agreeing to become a vampire?

Hali

I know you struggled with TVD at first and the morality (or lackthereof) of some of the vampires, so going into this show, how are you approaching some of the more questionable and often downright evil things vampires may get up to?

Just so you know, Louis’s race was race-swapped for the show (he was originally white) so all the racial elements of the story are completely original. The gay romance in the book was also either heavily subtextual or layered in innuendo, rarely ever explicit the way it is in the show. In the movie with Tom Cruise & Brad Pitt, Louis and Lestat are solely non-romantic companions (“and they were companions” lol) so the IWTV series is the first on screen adaptation to take that subtext and make it…well, text.

Elizabeth Gates

I'll add that despite the sometimes subtextual nature of Louis's and Lestat's relationship in the book, Anne Rice was very clear that they were meant to be viewed romantically.

Hali

definitely, yes. it’s not really up for interpretation
