After the initial “failed” murder attempt, Lestat tries to kill Claudia despite knowing how much Louis loves her. But in his final moments, Lestat is sweet and almost apologetic/accepting of how they got to that point. Even on the balcony he was so reminiscent and he was looking at Louis like “See? Remember all the good times we had? It wasn’t all bad.” It makes you wonder if he was saying these things to Louis because he believes he’s about to die, or if it’s just another way of manipulating Louis so he doesn’t go through with murdering Lestat. You rarely know what Lestat is thinking or feeling at any giving moment and that’s one of my favourite things about him as a character.

I think TVD and TO tend to include vampire antics like feeding and murder in how they judge the morality of character. For example, vampires who feed from the vein and kill are seen as worse vampires who don’t. It makes sense since humans are a big part of those shows. In contrast, IWTV only focuses on the more human aspects of morality and not the feeding or killing. Lestat is presented as the most morally reprehensible vampire we’ve met, but it’s not because he brutally kills, it’s because he’s manipulative and abusive and a liar – all traits that humans can also possess. It’s an interesting difference between the two shows & it’s probably why we find it harder to forgive characters in a show like IWTV than in TVD/TO.

i know lestat is manipulative as hell but i honestly think that the balcony scene is one of the realest moments weve seen from him in the show. it feels like hes desperately trying to show louis how much he loves him even with just his eyes, and theres so much sadness in them when he notices that louis is pulling away and not really hearing him. hes silently begging him not to go through with the plan but realizes its not enough (and is probably once again thinking louis doesnt love him). when he asks for a last dance it feels like him accepting that louis is really gonna try to kill him.
