In this episode, we see Louis answer a question at the top of the episode with, "Armand could see I was partial to you. Armand preserves my happiness even when I don't or can't. He had a hunch you might prove fruitful in later times." When Armand returns and is asked why he spared Daniel, Armand responds with, "I could see you were partial to him. I preserve your happiness even when you don't or can't. I had a hunch Daniel might prove fruitful in later times," implying that this response has been somewhat programmed in Louis's brain by Armand. Why do you think Armand actually saved -- or spared -- Daniel? In an earlier episode, there was a discussion about if Armand could have been keeping tabs on Daniel after San Francisco (since he knew things about Alice, for example, that he shouldn't be able to know even from reading Daniel's mind). Given the context of their interactions in this episode, does it shed any new light on his treatment of Daniel in the present? Furthermore, does the implantation of key phrases into Louis's mind give new context to the following: -In S2E2, Armand said Louis was someone, "with a history of chasing the wrong kind of love." Louis interrupted, saying "I'll describe it myself, thank you," before following it up with "Yes, but with a history of chasing the wrong kind of love." -Daniel asking if Louis and Armand were going to keep on finishing each other's sentences. -Louis's comment from S2E3: "When my mind was touched by Armand's, I became deeply excited and driven to form new conclusions about myself and vampiric life in the abstract." -The fact that when Louis was having trouble remembering the order of events in S2E1 (about whether or not Emilia would talk about the local dangers in front of Claudia), Louis said, "We should get every detail right." Daniel agreed, but Armand said, "Perhaps this would be a time to take a break, Louis."

You mentioned in your last reaction that the emotional manipulative side of Louis didn't align with your personal view of him. But after this episode (mental fuckery from Armand aside), has your opinion of Louis shifted at all? In this episode, he brings up Armand's sexual slavery past to cause hurt ("Your daddy vampire groomed you into a little bitch"), called him Arun to get him to do what he wanted, and is utilizing the same open-relationship policy as Lestat did (which Armand doesn't seem thrilled by). If we are to believe Armand, Louis's interview/book serve a very similar function to Lestat's recording with Antoinette -- a taunt to try to entice the other to come to them in a rage. To what degree do we justify his manipulative side more than the other characters because we are entrenched in his POV and can see he is actively hurting? How would you currently rank the following characters in terms of morality: Louis, Lestat, Claudia, Armand, Daniel, Santiago?

how do you feel about armands treatment of louis after the attempt? is it understandable after their fight? his coldness and lack of care even as louis is calling him for help? in the scene when hes put him in the coffin he says hes locked louis in a ''prison of empathy'' and says he has ''one final act of kindness'' and calls for lestat, do you think he was actually being kind to louis in that scene? ive seen a lot of different takes on that whole thing...

why do you think armand called out to lestat? he let lestat know that louis hurt himself without letting him know what state he was in, leaving him distressed and screaming for louis. this feels especially cruel knowing that lestats boyfriend nicki killed himself (which armand knew about). he also refused to tell louis that lestat said he loves him. why? what was the point in reaching out to him?
