Some great scenes this episode that really helped to flesh out the issue Shannon and Eddie had in those early days. Was NOT fun watching Buck process the potential death of Eddie though 😭

Google Drive Tip: It takes time for Google Drive to process videos. If it says "still processing" or is only allowing you to view at 360p, then you can always come back later or download the video in full

Dropbox Tip: The quality of the video is lower while streaming so I recommend downloading or using google drive if thats an issue

i despise eddie's parents - the way they treat eddie, and even christopher and his disability genuinely infuriates me, as well as the way they absolutely just want to take christopher for themselves to get a "do-over" son bc they feel like they "failed" with eddie. it also makes me feel awful for shannon bc they absolutely didn't like her even before she left - so i def can't imagine they treated her very kindly when she was alone with them taking care of christopher. of all the parents of the mains they're probably my second least favourite. (my first least favourite you've not met yet.)

I thought Eddie Begins would include his military past and that I wouldn't be the biggest fan of it...and I was right on both counts LOL. It's just weird for me in shows like these because we've known Eddie for a while now. We know him as a good guy, good friend and teammate and (at least now) a good dad. So my mind automatically gives him some leniency like...when he enlisted, he didn't know any better. Some cash, some benefits for his family and the US army are the good guys right? Except in recent years those who didn't already know have now 💯 learned that America is actually the bad guy, right from the start of it. And the US military pushed propaganda through every means, including shows that Eddie would have watched, to reel innocent but entirely clueless souls in. Then they invaded countries and did as astonishing amount of war crimes and come back home labelled as heroes for committing those atrocities. Is it any wonder that Eddie was so traumatised? And did he even know why, beyond the obvious? Did he even catch on? We're not allowed to say it, of course. Them using the Muslims' call to prayer as a "Middle Eastern song" to show "we're in the bad guys territory". The "Valley of Death" where more people indigenous to the land had probably been slaughtered by the US...all of it. LITERALLY all of it made me nauseated. I'm so torn like - my mind keeps ping-ponging between "Eddie doesn't know" and "but I know and it's making me sick to watch" 🤣🤣 like I couldn't even be interested in his "heroics" saving the other soldiers because literally all of them were just there causing chaos in someone else's country on orders they didn't even understand. I had to skip through a lot of the "combat" scenes. Hated everything to do with that aspect of it. Those kids probably didn't know even then that they're the bad guys fighting rich men's wars that defended absolutely no one in their own country. I LOVED the present day crisis. Wish it had just been that tbh. It wouldn't have been a Begins episode that way ig. I WILL say, however, that this episode had me FULLY on Shannon's side. You can see her desperation, how she felt so trapped against the wall. She wanted to be there for her DYING MOTHER and Eddie made it seem like she was asking for a trip to Disneyland. He was running away from her the moment she got pregnant and he wasn't the best father after either. It's so ironic that it took her leaving for him to be the good dad that we see now. It's still terrible that she left without a proper goodbye or without keeping in contact with Christopher, but I can understand her desperation better now. I also HATED Eddie's parents. They were like "you're our son but you're clearly drowning so why don't you go do that by yourself somewhere else and give us your kid to be better parents to". The delusions some people have is mind boggling. They were literally trying to steal Eddie's son from him and kick Eddie to the curb at the same time. Shitty parents. Idk. Least fav Begins episode so far. I hope the next one matches the brilliance of the others we had before.

i personally really enjoyed eddie begins bc i love eddie as a character and how it's not all black & white w him and shannon - and i think if you ignore the military stuff, it's a really well done, emotional episode. i also probably partly like it for the buddie crumbs, lol.
