One of the best episodes of the ENTIRE show, fantastic from start to end. Buck and Maddies relationship will forever be my favourite dynamic in the show, fucking love our Buckley siblings 😭

p.s. that montage at the end has both broken and healed something inside of me, love/fuck you 911

The fact that Maddie likely brought out the bike because Buck wanted one and their parents were never fully present for him to ask for it...the fact that she was the one who taught him how to ride it and fixed him up...she truly was the one who raised him. And it's so sad that she never had anyone to lean on the way Buck could lean on her. She had to wait until he was older to be that support for her. And it looked like it didn't truly happen until she came to LA because he was very much a lost little kid when she gave him the Jeep. I 💯 believe that they subconsciously blame Buck for not saving Daniel. I don't think they ever really grasped that or even dealt with it. Like they couldn't even handle the grief and essentially packed Daniel away into a box and stuffed all memories of him into the attic. It is such an insane thing to do. It never helped them. It was certainly a harsh thing to impose on Maddie who was 10 when he died and had eight years of knowing and loving Daniel - she would have needed support too! Except she can't talk about him to anyone, they moved to a new town where no one knew he existed, she had no friends there and I'm guessing they weren't very present in taking care of baby Buck so she had to step up as she did as he got older. I can understand the shock of it all causing them to do this in the beginning but surely as time passed and things never got better they would have realised that they needed to do something else? Margaret and Phillip - this is crazy work. Also an affront to Daniel's memory. He was literally a taboo subject. His parents erased him. That's so sad. "We live with the reminder of it every day staring us in the face!" is INSANE. Don't get me wrong - so much empathy for them for losing a child but the way they handled it was so wrong. Even if they couldn't handle the "judgment" and moved away, they could still have grieved openly once they were in Hershey. But that little comment tells me that they do blame Buck - at least Margaret does (although I also believe she is not aware that she blames him. This is where therapy would have come in clutch). She is devastated that Daniel is not around but Buck is. It is no wonder AT ALL that Buck feels so insecure, out of place and alone his whole life. I do agree it's not Maddie's fault but that Buck has the right to be angry with her. I never thought about how the way their parents are could have manifested itself into something darker within Maddie to accept the way Doug was - they act a certain way because of "worry" but they "feel bad later" and they "make it up" to you. Maybe it is a stretch but I think they purposely gave kid-Maddie that line to tie it in with Doug. And it definitely fits how she clung onto Doug because she didn't get affection from her parents at home and she couldn't truly rely on Buck yet because he's just a kid. She needed a lifeline. A lot of people would think "stupid" isn't a "terrible" thing to say, but I disagree. Especially to a kid. Especially when it comes from a parent. It really hurts your heart. And I think kid-Buck showed that hurt really well. It's so tragic, too, that Doug essentially took away his one real parent (Maddie) for years, even if they moved back to Hershey at some point. It's so tough seeing Maddie in that horrid part of her life. You can see all her various injuries - injured arm when Buck crashed his bike and went to see her, I think fingerprint marks on the back of her neck during one of his Doogie Howser style voiceovers with the postcards??, etc. And, obviously, we see what Doug did to her when she nearly left with Buck. I'm so glad she had Omar in her corner. I do wonder what her other co workers thought since she'd have so many injuries so often 🥺😬 Buck really did the travelling nomad thing for quite a while. It reminds me a bit of Shawn Spencer from Psych, if anyone's seen that show. Still immature at the end of all that adventure because they're still trying to find their place. Not Buck literally following random guys to places (Peru/LA) 🤣🤣🤣 Buck tying his self worth with how he can help people, pushing all his limits to save Saleh and then having his found family step in to help him save Saleh....yeah that made me bawl. So wonderfully done, topped off with a good dose of Bathena-as-Buck's-parents (and Hen as Buck's sister) moment. I think Buck expressing his sympathy to his parents over their loss was a healing moment for them. And Buck asking Maddie to tell him about Daniel was just as healing for her. THE POSTCARDS SHE KEPT!!! THE MONTAGE!!! "YOU PROMISE?" "I PROMISE" PINKY SWEARRRRRRR ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹 Buck and Maddie's relationship is so sweet. Their entire dynamic is gorgeous. Their backstory, both separate and together, is very sad. I love them both so much. I'm so glad they are together in LA now, and that they have a stable found family as well. I don't think their parents did enough or anything at all really to mend what they broke with their children, but at least Buck and Maddie have each other. This whole episode is beautifully tragic. It's why Buck Begins is my fav Begins episode. Chimney and Athena Begins are tied for 2nd place, followed by Hen and Bobby tying for 3rd. Eddie’s is 4th because it doesn't really give new info and the little it did just made me understand Shannon more instead of Eddie. Anyway, this was incredible but a TOUGH 2 episode week. I'm so excited for the next 2. I really need some classic 9-1-1 lightheartedness (I'm assuming you've already seen the episodes by now lol).

P.S. I'm so sorry for the essays I left for these 2 episodes. Buck and Maddie have my whole heart so I had a lot to say 😬😬😬
