When you were talking about how you thought Jo would be like a vampire with their switch turned off, and how it's not and it's actually just that she only cares about herself, I thought about Charmed. It kind've reminds me of *spoilers for those who haven't seen Charmed* when Prue was split into three, or when she was dream astral projecting, and how in both episodes she had a version of herself that did things for herself and not for others. It kinda gives those vibes, just evil

Also supported by Lizzie and Josie's conversation in the game in the last episode, where Josie said she had to "kill Josie so that she could survive." Like the most twisted way of taking over and doing things for herself because real Josie almost never did anything for herself

From what we know over the two series the merge is a cruse on the coven meaning eventually it’s out of anyone’s control to stop it. It likely triggers automatically somewhere in twins 22nd year of life. While it can be forced to happen at any time most people naturally want to live and therefore wait till the last possible moment to enact it. It also give more context to kai wanting to kill toddler Lizzie and and Josie in season 8 of the vampire diaries cause if anyone knew they could trigger it at any time they could have done it then and stripped him of coven leader. And why he tried to kill them when they were still inside jo “I didn’t feel like competing to be coven leader.” Is what I believe he said at the wedding meaning it might have been possible for the coven to force them to merge in utero if they had any heads up that kai was after them but that’s all just my take on it
