I can see what you mean about Jamie not sounding convincing. For me I think it was his lack of confusion about the whole situation. He was clearly sad but he didn’t seem surprised, just afraid. He kept saying “I didn’t do it” as if he knew what the “it” was.

Children getting strip searched is actually pretty controversial, I think it was even spoken about in parliament but I’m not too sure. As expected, brown and black children are far more likely to be subjected to these strip searches. There was a recent case of a young black girl who was subjected to one while she was on her period — a humiliating experience but nothing was ever done about it.
