Another FANTASTIC episode. Knowing we only have 4 more episodes HURTS but god is this a fantastic series. Haven't even finished it and I am already asking for more 😂 was great to have a better insight into Ilyas background as well. We get more into it in the question time section so be sure to check that out when its here!!

Dropbox Tip: The quality of the video is lower while streaming so I recommend downloading or using google drive if thats an issue

Commenting as I’m watching so I don’t forget, so maybe you notice in your reaction, but Winter 2013 was January/February, so it was the beginning of the year :)

is it just me or was there no question time section?

I really enjoy your reactions to this series. You pick up on a lot of subtext that a lot of reactors don't recognize. It's very refreshing to watch. I apologize in advance for how long this comment is going to be! I'm so addicted to this show I'm constantly thinking and over- analyzing it! I sometimes have to remind myself that despite moments of intimacy, they have only met a handful of times over the years and have never explicitly discussed how they feel. Ilya most likely understands that Shane has some feelings for him, but he probably operates under the assumption that, because they can't be anything more, Shane's interest is purely physical. A belief likely rooted in his own sense of unworthiness, stemming from a lack of love and support in his familial life. I really think that Ilya's behavior in Russia was a protective measure, not a rejection, dictated by the immediate dangers of that environment. The tragedy of that scene lies in the breakdown of mutual respect for boundaries: earlier, in Episode 1, Ilya immediately honored Shane's "not now" during the shower scene, but, during the figure skating scene, Shane failed to reciprocate that same grace when Ilya vocalized his own need for space by saying " not now". Shane’s naivety likely stems from his personal privilege. He has loving and supportive parents and lacks an understanding of what life in Russia is truly like because of his comfortable upbringing in Canada. I know the author has also stated that Shane is on the spectrum, which might explain his difficulty reading subtext and assessing social situations fully. I cannot truly blame either of them. I love them both and understand their individual perspectives equally, although my heart tends to feel a little more for Ilya, considering his lack of a support system. There is also an interesting dynamic regarding the dominant/submissive sexual relationship between the two. While some might think Shane is being used, in reality, Shane manages his life with so much control that he genuinely enjoys the ability to cede control sexually. Ilya's life is out of control and filled with chaos, so Shane relinquishing control really helps Ilya. It is a mutually beneficial relationship. You see this after Shane asks, "Are you going to f*** me?" and Ilya’s replies "We will see," the smirk on Shane's face shows he is enjoying every minute. In the past, we've seen Shane get aggressive and physically put Ilya in his place, so if he is going along with something, it is because he is enjoying himself, not because he is being coerced. One thing we learned very quickly about Ilya, especially in these first two episodes, is that he values consent too much to everr push Shane to do something he didn't want to do.

he posted in the chat that it’ll be out tomorrow as it’s longer to edit

So I love this show, and my other favorite thing is hockey. I know you got a primer, so please forgive me if I am repeating myself. This will hopefully explain some of the timeline questions: 1. A regular hockey season spans from October to April, with caveats: *Players report in for pre-season training end of July/early September. *Players hope the season lasts till late May/early June because it means they are fighting for the Cup. (The Stanley Cup is one of the most difficult trophies to win in sports) 2. All Star weekend takes place in February almost every season. Players have a week off league wide to rest, unless you are invited for those few days to represent your team at All Stars (it is for fun, it's not that deep. Mostly promotional) *When All Star doesn't take place it's because there is the Olympics during that time (which makes the time "off" 2 weeks, unless you are playing), or another international competition during that same time (like the winter Olympics this year and Four Nations last year) 3. NHL (MLH in this series) Awards always take place in July (Summer). Draft (when teams pick players not playing professionally) is in late June. Additional notes: Winter is considered December to February. Ilya and Shane met December 2008, they were 17. By the end of this episode they are 24. Love love the empathy you have for these characters and the careful way you watch. You catch so much already! Can't wait to see more!

Great reaction! You really understand their dynamic which is very fun to watch. So much is being said in what is not said. Really looking forward to future reactions of the show :)

I'm having so much fun watching these. Thank you for the great reactions.

Just started watching your reaction to this episode and maybe you'll realise this throughout your reaction or someone has already pointed it out, but the time indicator "winter" actually means like January-ish. Confused the hell out me at first, too, as I usually associate winter with December 😅

Shane is pretty much only close with his team but having been 24/7 with them for years that’s not surprising. His best friend is Hayden Pike, the guy we see with him the most and we also see Shane interact with his wife Jackie(a bit in both episodes) and his other closest friend is JJ, who’s the guy who said the “if Rozanov f*cks you tonight I’ll f*ck him right back” line. Also the correct saying would be that “the ball is now in Ilya’s court”😭

i havent watched these reactions yet so im not sure if someones told you and youve mentioned it, but i just wanna let you know that shane is autistic!! i feel like thats pretty important to know. hes undiagnosed so its not mentioned in the show but its confirmed by rachel reid who wrote the books and hes written as autistic in the show. hudson williams who plays him has talked about it in interviews as well. as someone whos autistic i really love his portrayal and appreciate that its not the stereotypical representation we usually see <3
