Harry! So glad to see you up and well. You have lots of questions that basically cover the whole season two, you will get answers to everything. I do too love Caroline and Stefan friendship, a lot, she seems to be able to make Stefan lighter and he understands her perfectly. Love those two. Damon and Elena are complicated right now. But that scene of kissing Stefan emphatically in front of Damon seems to me more a reaction to Damon, than a genuine kiss to Stefan. Damon did apologise and took an arrow in his back to protect Elena. I’m not trying to justify what he did , but the fact that vampire feels why more powerfully and that Damon had his life purpose taken away from him so brutally by Katherine and that Elena underline the same thing, which in his head is “you are not worth loving” it hurtled him badly. As newbie vampires have difficulty to get control over the blood lust and might accidentally kill someone, the personality is still a factor that will affect them even when you get older as vampire, because you cannot be every minute under control, sometimes if pushed on their weaknesses they snap, Stefan weakness is human blood control because of his psychological issues of guilt, Damon snapping point is the realization that he is condemned to a life of solitude unloved, because his father didn’t loved him, Katherine used him and many more other things we still have to discover. So even though he did something terrible, so did Caroline, so did every vampire because even though they are powerful creature in this universe they can be very volatile and because of the heighten emotions, very psychologically fragile creatures at the same time.

Glad to see you feeling better :) Damon and Elena in this episode are all things good and bad because of the tension between them. It's intriguing to me that, despite their present rift and Elena's evident contempt for Damon, their natural verbal exchanges seem unaffected. The most important takeaway from the scene at Duke was that he took a arrow in the back for her. Despite Damon's best efforts to seem as if it doesn't matter, we know otherwise. We know it means a lot more to him than he'll ever admit. Because why else would he take an arrow for her. And so precariously close to his heart too. He’s a 150 year+ old vampire for gods sake. He could’ve caught the arrow instead. Or taken it in a less potentially fatal location, like his arm. He didn’t. To be absolutely certain that it didn’t get within an inch of Elena he let that arrow pierce his back dangerously near to his heart. He receives no gratitude for this, only Elena's current sarcasm and disguised scorn. Yet, you know that doesn't matter to him. That he'd do it again in a heartbeat simply to keep her safe, and that he'd continue to brush off her rage. At this point Damon is still in a strange sort of humanity limbo. He has embraced his emotions but he still hides them behind sarcastic humor and arrogant, flirty smirks. He’s not likely to take off that mask unless he has a very good reason. And apparently in his mind admitting to Elena that their friendship is deeply important to him is a good reason. Even though she brushes him off he still lays it on the line and asks if she can ever forgive his mistake. I do not blame Elena for acting the way she is at all simply because I know that what Damon did in a fit of rage could have costed her losing her brother and that is not something to be just treated casually so I understand her and I believe Damon does too. Yes, the entire day he was behaving very childish but at the end of the day he tells her truth that he didn't know about the ring and he simply got lucky. It isn't easy to admit to your faults especially when you're risking a friendship that is important to one but he does admit it because he didn't want to lie and earn her forgiveness. The thing about Damon’s apologies is that you know he doesn’t give them unless he absolutely means it. So you know he’s sorry. And Elena does too. But I am not saying that she has to forgive him because he is sorry that is absolutely her choice. And we know that for now that doesn’t change anything. She’s still angry. And she still wants nothing to do with him. For her, their friendship is over which deeply wounds Damon if the look on his face is any indication. She’s the first person he’s opened up to at all in decades and he’s royally fucked it all up. Now she not only despises him, she has put the kibosh on the connection they were forming. And I also loved that Damon never shies away from giving it back to Elena. Him saying that there are many more similarities between Katherine and Elena is a big thing and it will make more sense later in the season. Caroline and Stefan in this episode were adorable. I really like this friendship because they are so care free with one another and seem to know how to handle each other well. Stefan is trying to help her get through this early stage very carefully but I think he needs to rethink some things and understand that maybe some vampires do not need to follow the same path as him to be adjusting to this lifestyle. Bonnie is in such a different space. The more she wants to stay away from vampires, it seems she is being dragged back into it every time. Earlier it was about Elena dating a vampire and now her other best friend is a vampire and she has had to witness the death of a man. It's not easy for her either. I understand that as a friend she should be more understanding but will just have to give her time. I think she is still being good because at the end she did spell the ring and make it possible for Caroline to go out.

The fact that Damon told Elena the truth about not seeing the ring on Jeremy is huge; even though it was damaging to his friendship with Elena. Instead , Damon told the truth than lie to her. Being truthful will be a significant characteristic among Damon and Elena.
