One of the reasons why I love this show so much is that no character is black and white, nobody is entirely bad or good, and we get motivations for their actions that are perfectly relatable and psychologically grounded giving the characters complexity. I’ve seen so many shows where characters are behaving badly but as audience we never get to know why, they are the way they are. Not in this show, we get the full story of everybody. Katherine turned Caroline, manipulate Mason and everybody else to have a werewolf, she got the moonstone, the doppelganger and the witch, to be the one with the power of negotiation. She never came back for any of the Salvatore brothers! Katherine is a great character, selfish, intelligent, a true survivor and as any true survivor she learn fast how to look out for herself, how to manipulate men, specially, how to be two step ahead to everybody because of Klaus. “I’ll be the safest psychotic bitch in town” is such a great line! And apparently Klaus is coming. But he was supposed to come, before or after anyway. Elena is a doppelganger and someone before or after would have find out about her, at list now she has the Salvatore brothers on her side. Imagine if they never show up, she would have being totally clueless. Elijah breaking the glass with loose change scene was so spectacular, just fantastic! Don’t worry everything about the Originals will be explained. Damon and Rose, there, it’s the foundation of a potential great romance, both vampire, both intelligent and attractive, both vulnerable and both with a broken lives, they have so much in common, and she is strong woman the kind Damon likes. He is trying to move on from Elena, and Rose come into his life at right moment and she might be just what he needs. By the way the soundtrack of this show is just awesome! Most songs are used as a voice over, to tell us the characters emotions and to add story to the scene. Nothing in TVD is casual, everything is there for great storytelling purpose. Nina acting in this episode is insane; here is an insight on this episode behind the scene, to give you an idea on how much work is behind this show. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWM34a5SBfw

By the way, to clarify. Bonnie's father, married into the Bennett family, Bonnie's mother and grandmother are from the Bennett bloodline and being very powerfull witches they kept their name.

Harry Allen

Omg what, that makes so much more sense. The way they talked about him in the past felt more like a son who doesn't want his daughter to be around his crazy mother ya know. Thank you for letting me know!!

Karianna

the amount of chemistry nina has with herself is insane. love her

This one is a hevay episode in terms of the amount of information we're given about Katherine and her backstory. I love this show for it's writing because it gives me the vibe of theatre. Characters are given a backstory which makes thing easier for the audience to understand each character and why they're the way they're. Katherine was a rebel is what I can draw from her backstory because even back when it was forbidden for women to have any relationship before their wedding, Katherine had gone ahead and chosen to give birth to her daughter. It must have been very tough for her to convince her parents to not kill her or her child. Her father was cruel because she couldn't even hold her child for a second. There is no doubt about why Katherine is extremely self-centred and selfish. She clearly had been around people who didn't give her love and weren't compassionate. Her father as we saw was cruel and had sent her away to live alone in the world. We don't know about the types of people she must have encountered after leaving home but after meeting Klaus, she must have realised that it was best for her to solely think for herself. Of course, that doesn't excuse her selfish motives but it definitely gives us enough context to understand because it's human behaviour. You would be kind and compassionate if you have experienced or you would cruel if that's what you have seen all your life. Elena is one smart and courageous girl. She chose to go and meet Katheirne alone because after hearing from Rose about Klaus, she wouldn't want to sit and do nothing. I think it was a good idea for her to find out important information and learn who else is in danger and what their purpose would be for the sacrifice. But then now I am also concerned because how does one control their nerves after hearing disturbing facts which you have no control over. Caroline was a really good friend this episode. I truly appreciated that she didn't tell Stefan about Elena's whereabouts because it would be disrespectful as Elena's friend. Stefan and her are growing closer as friends which is really pleasant watch but I think we cannot ignore that at this time Stefan and Elena are still in love with each other. They might not be in a relationship but they're still in love. Rose is someone I love a lot. Seeing her being so observant about Damon and his feelings towards Elena was enough to tell me how easy it is for her to read him. She is able to see right through because she later also compared to him to Trevor who was a great friend to her. I like their chemistry very much. Both are strong, loyal and smart people. Elijah and that coin scene was mindblowing! His whole aura screams power. Originals can compare other vampires is a very cool power because as we saw it makes their job so much easier. He dind't need to get his hands dirty and still managed to get Rose's friend to kill himself.

Speaking about Damon and Elena. In this episode we basically have no interaction, yet conversation seems so subtly, or not so subtly, revolve around them. So tp speak, lets start with the only exchange Damon and Elena share which is when he opens the door to let her into the Salvatore boarding house. This scene lasts all of fifteen seconds. Yet it tells wild tales of a recent seismic shift in Delena’s dynamic. In the previous episode Damon finally admitted to his feelings for Elena in a confession so romantic and selfless. The only caveat is that he compelled her to forget it, thereby diminishing the positive impact it could have on their relationship’s trajectory. Or so you would think, considering she doesn’t remember he’s in love with her. But somehow the consequences of that moment and that confession are in play anyway. The game has changed yet again. You can see it in his face, hear it in his voice. Things are different. HE is different. Now that he’s admitted to himself (and in a roundabout way, to Elena) what he feels, his entire world has twisted inside out and become focused solely on her. Her safety, her happiness, her every need. She is now his only priority in Mystic Falls, in the world, in his life. By lifting the burden of denial from his shoulders and copping to his all consuming love for this girl he has unknowingly changed the course of everyone’s life. It all starts with how he himself has begun to change. How his voice isn’t so detached and cynical as it was when he first came to town. How his face has lost that careless, emotionless edge it once carried. She is unconsciously breaking down his mask of indifference one day at a time. But she could never know that because even though he’s confessed to himself he still maintains an air of denial with everyone else. The only problem is, now that he’s no longer fighting it, his love has become obvious to those around him who pay any kind of real attention to him and his behavior. This woman Rose is essentially a complete stranger. Rose knows nothing of any of them. She’s been in the room with Damon, Elena and Stefan at the same time only once, during a conversation that gave no possible clues to Damon’s closeted love for his brother’s girl. But she picks up on it anyway. Because he can no longer hide it. Not now that Elena’s life is in danger from some unseen and terrible foe they can’t hope to defeat. And I don't know if you picked up on it or not but Stefan's first thought about where could Elena be was with Damon...ouch! For gods sake we aren’t even halfway through season two, yet Stefan already possesses this very tangible fear and insecurity over Elena’s friendly intimacy and affection with his brother. Despite the fact that the last he knew, she and Damon were essentially on the outs in terms of friendship. I guess even he recognises just as everyone else, what is happening below the surface. Damon and his determination and faith in himself to save Elena is incredible. A statement of pure fact. No wavering in his voice or disinterested pessimism in his face. He will save her. Whatever it takes, no matter the cost. He doesn’t hesitate in the slightest. I don't know how will Elena manage to hate Damon, the man who is willing to stop at nothing to save her? I guess we will only with with time :))
