Alaric came back to life because of his ring, remember? The Gilbert ring that Isobel gave him, it protects humans from being killed by supernatural creatures. So he was in fact dead, but with the ring he came back. Like when Damon killed him back in season 1, Ric woke up and was like wtf, and we learn what his ring is about 😊

I love this episode for many reasons. First of all Alaric and Damon. Alaric is becoming the third brother, and I absolutely loved that after the attack from the werewolves, when Damon came back from fainting even if he was chained and with a torture devise on his neck that must have been painful he checks if Alaric has his ring and he is clearly relief for the fact that he is only temporarily dead. I also love the face of total admiration of Damon when Elijah was killing werewolves left and right with minimum effort. The first time Damon took the heart out of the witch in Atlanta we were so shocked and he all were thinking wait until Elijah come into the show, that is his signature kill, he is taking heart out of his enemies chest as easy as to blink his eyes. You already got used to it. Moving into the subject of Elena and Stefan. Elena is such a badass, when it comes to react to an immediate danger situation, but when it comes to choose between her family and friends and herself she has no hesitation, she has no fear of death and there is a reason for that. Another thing about this show that I’m so impress with is the fact that every single thing that happens to every character and every actions the do is perfectly consistent with their psychological profile and reaction. Elena is the only survivor of the car accident where her parents died, she has the typical survivor guilt, where people in her situation feel the guilt of being alive, and that combine with her compassionate character is the one that makes Elena accepting the deal without fighting it. It is understandable she wants to protect the people she loves but I am siding with Stefan on this, she shouldn’t accepting this as a matter of fact, as an inevitability but she should at list try to find another way. Another interesting part they just touched, of Stefan and Elena relationship is that their relationship will have to face what their future will mean for Elena, like you said having to move around, not be able to have children, growing older when Stefan doesn’t etc. Last but not list Tyler. After a moment of sheer stupidity, he came around and came back to the reality of the people he knows and loves. But because of his actions he thinks that everybody hates him, that he burned bridges with everybody and with that fact that he is not in control of the fact that when he is turning he has no control, he is a killing machine, he has to leave to protect his mom, from himself and everybody else, learning to own his werewolf side and the best course of action in his mind, his leaving town to get help by the only werewolf he has at hand, Jules. This song’s words chosen for Tyler leaving are so poignant:“You didn't ask for this. Nobody ever would. Caught in the middle of this dysfunction. It's your sad reality. It's your messed-up family tree. And all you’re left with all these questions. Are you gonna be like your father was and his father was? Do you have to carry what they've handed down? No, this is not your legacy. This is not your destiny. Yesterday does not define you. No, this is not your legacy. This is not your meant to be. I can break the chains that bind you….”. I feel sad for Tyler. He is the embodiment of what the new generation have to do, break the legacy of hatred that their families left to them and find a way to live together no matter the difference between them, vampires, humans, werewolves, witches, doppelgangers as community as the friends they are. And that is here the ultimate message of the show, learn to live in harmony with people different from you.

There are some really good moments in this episode as the build up for the next episodes is being rolled out. I honestly love moments between Damon and Elijah because they both have this aura of arrogance and strength. Now of course Elijah is this aura of being superior because he is an original but the way he carries himself is intimidating which is something I do like about his personality and that he does stand by his words. Coming to Damon, he has always been someone who won't bow down without trying so that is always endearing. Thanks to Elijah everything at the Salvatore house ended well. Elena and Stefan getting away for a while was good for them. They sort of spoke about the future but then they had to be realistic and choosing to live in the moment is definitely way better at the moment because there is so much going on at the moment that thinking about the future would only seem possible once they don't worry about this curse and sacrifice and if Elena actually survives. Elena has always known that the deal she made with Elijah won't protect her but she didn't mention to anyone earlier because she doesn't give it much importance which is sad. It is understandable though because of her survivor guilt after her parents death but like Stefan said she has her whole life ahead and she cannot be giving up so easily. She needs to start thinking for herself too along with her friends and family. Seriously one thing I would again thank Isobel is for that Gilbert ring that she gave to Alaric because that really does a lot. I loved how when Damon sees the ring on Alaric's finger; he sighs in relief and then he doesn't really care about how he is going to be tortured. I agree with you Harry that Matt and Caroline were good for each other in season 1 because Caroline was different back then and Matt knew how to be with her. But now things have changed immensely for Caroline. She and Matt won't compliment each other because their relationship would have a lot of secrets and lies included which isn't great for any relationship. And also because Caroline has matured a lot after being a vampire that being with Matt isn't going to like before. SO best if they remain friends.
