YAY ive been waiting for this :D

Elijah got stubbed twice!!! Elena is a true badass, stabbing herself and stab an original too, she is fearless. In this episode we got introduced to a concept, Lexy called Stefan “a ripper” that is something that will be explained better later, but being British the word should be familiar, “Jack the ripper”, if you recall why he was called the ripper you get the general meaning of it. Stefan is not like Damon or other vampires in general. As Stefan, in season one, explained in Vicky case, the way you are and your issues as human play a big part in how you react when you get turned into a vampire. Stefan was seventeen and live a human life in a small town, rich family, very much sheltered, daddy’s favourite, loved by Damon, his big brother, he really never had to face any hardship, like Damon, with his father issues or going to war. So when he turn into a vampire without him realizing it or giving consent, he was totally unprepared and the issues that comes with being a vampire hit him like a tsunami, he killed his father, forced Damon to turn because he could bare to lose his brother, and face eternity alone; the guilt, the overwhelming emotions, the blood lust, were much too much, he switched his humanity off and went on a killing rampage, decimating family founders; he was the one killing most of the Gilberts, the Fells, etc. As usual he doesn’t provide Elena with the truth about himself unless he is cornered and cannot hide anymore the secrets that don’t make him look good. All the above components make Stefan very susceptible to blood lust, more than usual and his bunny diet never helped him to confront the issues he has and fix it. Damon is another story. When he came into town he had too his humanity on a dimmer switch, but for a very good reason that I cannot tell because is a spoiler. The story with Lexi and the two brothers is a complex one and Damon and Lexi had reasons (multiple one) not to like each other. And finally Katherine, she is such a master manipulator!! She “loves Stefan” but kisses Damon, tries to have sex with him and she prefers to shower in Damon’s room where she makes sure that he is going to see her naked...you can’t trust a word she says.

Also I wanted to point out the difference between the brothers regarding their relationship with vampirism. Stefan is a ripper, but as I said his problems with blood lust are more psychological, than anything else. Being young and naive, he think of himself as a monster, he lost his status as good brother, as loved brother and is doing everything to suppress that part of him that doesn’t conform to this narrative. But like it or not he is a vampire anyway, and as we seen by suppressing that part of him that is no longer human, he hasn’t learn to control it, and as much as he does to fight it, as dangerously that part of him is waiting to come out with a blast. Stefan is a ticking bomb, pretending to be a clock. Damon on the other side, have seen the war, has being around death. He didn’t want to be a vampire per se, he wanted to be with, who he thought was the love of his life forever. So, let’s remember that he was the older brother, the responsible one, the family name carrier, the person that one day would inherit the estate, lots of pressure there, while Stefan was the kid brother, seven years younger. So when his brother forced him to turn, he had to adjust to his new condition, because there was nothing he could do about it and gave this life he didn’t wanted the purpose to get Katherine back. So he learn to control his blood lust and make the most of it while waiting to go back on track to his original plan to life forever with his love. Being a vampire is not something that you can make disappear, is who they are and drinking human blood his the way they are alive, Stefan is dangerously faking it and that makes him more susceptible to fell off the rail. So as strange as it seems Damon, between the two brothers, is the more balanced one, because even when he switch his humanity off is still capable of reasoning, then Stefan that becomes a ripper.

Witty banter, plot heavy, flashbacks and a touch of romance. Exactly what people initially looked for in this show during the first few seasons. this show is heavily inundated by plot twists and endlessly clever mythology. It’s one of many things the writers do well. But perhaps one of my favourite elements of this show is when it infuses the series with tidbits of relevant wisdom for the characters. And that is the purpose of this episode. Relevant wisdom that pertains to the greater conspiracy of the love triangle. Portrayed through the lens of Stefan’s flashbacks to 1864 following his transition. Stefan is consistently praised as the good brother and the moral vampire in this series. The hero. His calmer, less impulsive tendencies, and determination to try for the high road or the selfless, guilt-ridden path certainly paint him in that light. But people rarely take the opportunity to appreciate the darker parts of Stefan Salvatore. In fact, most of them pretend that side of him doesn’t exist unless it’s right in front of their faces (i.e. Elena). So this was a necessary piece of the puzzle in the triangle. Because it confirmed what had only been hinted at until this point. That Stefan was no better than Damon. Both brothers are good and bad. It's just their personalities are poles apart so they conduct themselves differently and depending on circumstances. Likewise with Elena, we are seeing her grow from strength to strength as she is fighting these new horrifying situations. And I love that she knows how to read people and manipulate them to be on her side similar to Damon and Stefan. Again the difference is that Damon doesn't know how to pretend. He just dives in the deep end. Damon is always the one planning things and trying to find information about how to keep Elena safe and living is because he has finally found a purpose. He is going to do everything in his power to keep her safe. I agree that one would question the credibility of John Gilbert and Katherine but honestly when you don't have much to go with; you go with what you have. It is different to Stefan because he is her boyfriend and yes he also is wanting to keep her safe but I don't think he puts in that much effort. I agree that the plans Damon makes puts other people mainly at risk which includes himself but that's Damon. He is impulsive and lives life on edge but I have to give it to him because he at least tries and doesn't just give up. At the end of the day things actually do work out. He managed to get Elena to dagger Elijah again and she was safe too. As for the lies, I disagree. Damon doesn't tell things to Elena because he knows that she will not agree to any of it which is fair and she has the right to be upset about it but again it's about keep her safe. Stefan on the other hand lies or keep things from her that concern him. It's not about the plans so much as much it is about him and who he is. I don't want to say much on this yet because this will be explained in many different ways later. But this episode does give good an example yet again. I love how Alaric was the one saving Damon from killing himself while trying to kill Elijah. Alaric has truly started to care for Damon and considers him a friend which is sweet. I know Jenna is going through a lot mentally with regards to her relationship and John isn't helping but I loved how Alaric was gushing about his friend Damon not sparing John ;)
