I heard that when you're taught rugby, you're told that if a player goes down and the referee blows the whistle, you must FREEZE and stay right where you are. So the coaching staff can get to the injured player fast with no crowds of gawkers messing things up. That's why Nick didn't go to Charlie, though he clearly hated not being able to.

Happy I joined the community! HEARTSTOPPER has defrosted my lonely cold heart and ep 4 is maybe my favorite of the entire season. So am excited to relive it through your eyes. 😭😍🥹

Uuuuuh there’s so many things I would like to chat about over an afternoon tea hahaha. How did you like the cute smile on Nick‘s face when Charlie’s mum points out that he’s still wearing his jammies and immediately stops when Charlie caught him pining. Also, have you noticed the bisexual flag colour palette / blue, pink purple hues throughout the party scenes, e.g. behind Nick when Imogen approaches him or when Nick and Charlie racing through the corridor and staircase? Just to name a few moments. Loves the iconic kiss of Tara and Darcy in episode 3, that shot was truly beautiful. In episode 4 I loved the way Nick and Charlie looked at each other when Nick has his crisis, it’s the moment Nick realises that he can be fully vulnerable in front of Charlie. Also, Alice Oseman called this scene her fav of the entire show. And to finish with another question. How do you interpret the moment at the rugby game, when Charlie lies hurt on the floor and Nick looks at him and then longer at their both friend groups, clearly torn inside before the scene ends? Happy to hear about your thoughts, hope this input isn’t too late.

o and good luck with pronouncing my name 😬 just stick to Fran, that’s probably easier and fine with me.

I had already recorded (I usually record the day before its set to come out) but happy to answer here!! I knew I kept seeing flag colours but my god I could NOT figure out which ones. I swear they use different ones throughout tho because the umbrella Darcy has at the rugby match is pan colours if I remember correctly. When they were hugging on Charlies bed my heart was just MELTING, so fucking sweet to see Nick feel fully comfortable to breakdown infron of Charlie.

The scene at the rugby game was so sad as you could literally tell all Nick wanted to do was run over but you legit had his whole friend group laughing from the sidlines. I also found it interesting how it kind of mirrored the scene where Nick has flashed to Charlie getting bullied and just kinda standing there doing nothing. Definately think thats gonna haunt Nick sadly

Fran

You’re so right! I also saw the direct comparison of the friend groups there, the bunch of people Nick doesn’t want to be part of but kinda belongs to and the friend group that is so open and free and acceptable but and that point unreachable. I mean Tao and Co. looked simply shocked and concerned about Charlie’s been hurt and the others, as you said, laugh or don’t see the seriousness in that situation. Kit Connor is such an amazing actor, you can read every of his emotions as Nick so well

Fran

Y I remember checking for that umbrella colours too when I watched it first time. Pan, bi, gay.. they were a few flags.. I mean there’s some symbols in the show in the background that represent trans people but haven’t spotted the actual flag for example. But the party’s been def bi all way through which was amazingly executed. Except the Tara and Darcy dancing scene of course
