The details in this show are astonishing, the sound track is perfection. How they manage to find the perfect song matching the moment characters feelings is mind boggling, like the scene were Elena remembers that scene in her bedroom with Damon, I love it too. Because of Nina acting that in this episode is outstanding and because of the song choice. They chose another song different from the original song in the scene because that is Elena now, her feeling in this precise moment. “Twice I turn my back on you, I fell flat on my face but didn’t lose. Tell me where would I go, Tell me what led you on I’d love to know” This verse is all about Elena feeling disappointed on how her life fall short in her expectations, in a turmoil filled with guilt and shame for not amounting to what she had imagine for herself. And while she is in this emotional state this memory surface and she is faced with the weight of her decision, leaving her wondering in the face of an unexpected revelation and what she should do with her life and with what she learn just now. “Was it the blue night, Gone fragile. Was it both men? In wonder steady goin’ under Was it the light ways So frightening Was it a two wills One mirror holding us dearer now” In this verse she is self reflecting on the duality of her love and questioning her choice made in a moment of fright, of fragility. “Thought I had an answer once But your random way swept me along Colossal signs so I got lost With so many lovers singing songs” She thought she had an answer, she figured it out, but those memories “ colossal sign” put her choice in question, perhaps her choice was hasty since now she knows how things really when on, but she is still straggling with confusion about what she really wants for her life, she has other big things to deal with now, preventing her to think clearly, and her choice is the options she knows already that implies she doesn’t have to invest herself in any other new situation and concentrate on her present big scary challenge, be a vampire. Than this is the last song while they are on the roof, and this is all Stefan, Stefan subconscious tell him things he can sense. Don't go back on your default baby I know its hurts I can see how hard you’re trying The first line is self explanatory; he is worried she is there out of sense of duty and loyalty. The rest of the song is, Stefan trying to support her, hoping she hold on to his love, while they face what being a vampire will mean to her, to find a way back “home” were they were before everything happened. Don't let go now Wait for the morning Wait for the morning dawn Write me a letter pen and paper I'll hear you out Search me try me tell me quietly I'm with you love Wait for the morning Wait for the morning dawn Wait for the morning Wait for the morning dawn We'll navigate these fragile days And find the right road I'll hold you tightly till the night lightens And find our way home Wait for the morning Wait for the morning We’ll wait for the morning Wait for the morning dawn How perfect is this song in that scene?

Regarding Damon rage. Let’s focus on all the components that go into Damon’s mind and the way he is. He lost in one go, his best friend, and Elena. After all it went on between then how close they were and all that happen the kiss, the motel kiss, she chose Stefan. That is Damon’s mind is the replay of Katherine story, where he is used for sex but never loved and doesn’t even have his best friend to moan about it. Even to fin Stefan and Elena we would have gone to Alaric to get help and instead he goes to Meredith the closest thing to Alaric he can get. On top of that after all they went through to save Elena, his own very brother killed her and because of that she is now a vampire. His rage, come from deep sadness, disappointment and sense of solitude, that he doesn’t express by crying but taking it out of everybody, especially on Matt that took the decision without consulting anybody to rugged her and to take her out of town. The moment between Damon and Elena, outside the barn, when she tell him she remembers, Is the first time they are alone and she is dying to tell him she remembered almost as a reproach to him for not letting her to know everything about him and her. Her sentence “ why didn’t you tell me we meet first and you told me to get everything I wanted in life” is crucial in Elena’s mind, she is almost tell him that knowing would have perhaps made an impact on her choice probably. And the fact that on the roof with Stefan she puts a conditional, with the sentence “if I want to” it is not a consideration about the unpredictability of the future, but is the feeling of her not seen Stefan in her future, as she always had, she never envision Stefan in the long run in her life even when she was human. Her choice of Stefan depends on many factors, her loyalty to him, because they never voluntarily broke up, and if for a period they were together is not because they fell out of love, so that was an non closure thing, hanging over their head. Also with everything going on in her life she cannot focus on what she want from life in the long run, too many things are happening in the present time, that made Stefan the safe choice, something she knows already. Last thing is how Elena thinks her circle of friends would judge her if she would have chosen Damon. With everything going on and all the unknown factors that a new person in your life would brings, she is not prepared to face anything that is not right now and already known.

So many new changes for Elena and it's only the first day! Yet again big round of applauds for Nina Dobrev for nailing her scenes. I think the amount of emotional turmoil people in this show go through is insane. The moment Elena wakes up and says "I was meant to be dead", was heart-breaking and it made me think about how she must have felt when she was the only one who survived the night her parents had died. And now she is facing the consequences of her choices. Yes, she was being a good friend and a selfless human being when she asked Stefan to save Matt first instead of her and he did exactly that which was very stupid whether I think about it logically or emotionally. He falls weak in the situations when he should be able to make his own decisions. Damon's anger is justified and I liked how you said that his anger is justified but not his actions. I agree that him taking his anger out on Matt in the way he was taking it out was wrong because Matt didn't ask to be saved, it wasn't his choice. But he was stupid enough to drive Elena out of town when things were already crazy even though yes, there was no ill intention. I do like that he is pissed with Stefan and Elena though because I don't get how nobody is thinking about Damon must be feeling. He had lost his friend and in the same instant he realised Elena had died when he was all alone, imagine the burden he must have felt. And to add to that he finds out his brother failed to save her life when he had the chance and that she chose death too. It's like no one cared to think about him. And no I don't think in this episode he was angry about the choice Elena made between him and Stefan, he was hurt for sure but I don't believe he was pissed off with her for that. Damon's reason to make Elena forget those moments spent with him which definitely were profound, was because he didn't think he was capable of being loved by her and she was his brother's girlfriend. So he was kind of caught up in middle and he decided to actually be selfless. He couldn't help but in love with Elena but he could make the choice to try and stay away in some ways at those points in the story. However in Season 3, things changed majorly and these two came a lot more closer. So there was hope and he decided to stop thinking less of himself and thought let her make the choice. And she did but look at where it led her sadly? He is pissed with Stefan for letting her die and her for wanting to die. Because this guy didn't care about anything but just the simple fact that she was alive and around. Now, look at Elena thinking along the same lines, that she is going to live. Earlier she wouldn't even think that being a vampire equals to being able to live. I think when Elena lets Damon know that she remembers everything, it was a moment filled with her being angry and maybe a little helpless. She was angry because of her own situation and she didn't really know who to be angry with because of it....in the end it was her choice and Stefan listened. She isn't happy to see Damon being extremely pissed off with almost everyone that was present in the moment of her death and she doesn't know how to tell him that he is wrong because she knows he isn't wrong to be angry. And then she is helpless because now all those memories will be adding to her unresolved feelings and she probably doesn't know if she should be angry with Damon for making her forget all of it or not. He asks her if it would have made a difference and I don't think Elena herself knows yet whether it would have made a difference or not? Say for example, he did one day decide out of the blue to remind her of their first meeting...how would it go? It's really complicated in simple words and I guess that's the reason it is messing up with all of them. He just threw it in her face that she has made some choices that have led her to the present scenario and maybe she needs to stop trying to prove him wrong all the time. He had told her earlier, there is no third door you will need to feed or you die and guess what happened in the end? It's like everyone knows the obvious answers but they want to be ignorant and then when they suffer the consequences, they wanna blame others. It's like when all of us start in teen years and we decide to things in our hands with the small day to day decisions we might make our life, and the responsibility of a parent/guardian would be to let the child know that whatever decisions they make, it will always have a consequence/end result and they will to have accept it and deal with it or let it deal with you.

I don't think he is angry with Elena for choosing Stefan but certainly to Damon after all they went through while Stefan was away, the reciprocated kisses and her telling him that his brother thinks she has feelings for him, he can see that. So, opening the door of possibility, to have it shut on his face, to him feels once again what happen with Katherine, it is reminiscent of the feeling of being lead on, used for conveniency and discarded once again. That makes him pissed off more than anything, not to Elena or Stefan but to his destiny, to the unfairness of his life, to the fact that he opens his heart to love and ends up having it shattered, and never get to be loved. That if you think about it is crushing in itself., without counting all the other things we mentioned.

Patpet

Gosh, I cannot wait for the next episodes of season 4!

Dear @Harry since is a couple of time you mention it, I know we still are a long way, and there is The originals to watch too, but you said that you would like when you finish to have a rewatch of TVD once you got all the information about everything and everybody. It would be great to do it publicly here, and I know is going to look like another show as it did to everybody. No other intelligent reactor have done a reaction to a rewatch, having also a spoiler free discussion on what you see, it would be so interesting. I would be on board and I know for sure that @Newmoon is on board too and probably @Maribel too, I don't know about @Archna, but I'm sure that a free conversation would be fantastic. Have a think about it, after all there is no rush.😊

Harry, I agree with PatPet and Newmoon about rewatching the show at your convenience. No matter how many times I watch it, I always find something that I didn't pay attention to before. It always an enjoyable experience.

Archna

I am on board with the idea of rewatching the show here on Pateron again and having to witness the same journey with new ideas and understanding. I think it would be a great idea and it's very rare because usually people only react to something once which is fair but with this show because the storyline is so packed, it's worth revisting.

Maribel Humble

Damon's anger is also due to the repetitive infantile choices among the gang. Stefan and Elena didn't have till the end of the day to find a way out of vampirism, especially when Alaric exposed them to the council. I agree with Harry about this episode being a continuation of the season three finale, where Elena is still dealing with her feelings. The barn and rooftop scenes with Stefan and Elena are worth contemplating because we see two different sides of Elena. In the barn, Elena's conversation with Stefan was about alleviating his remorse because she thought she was going to die. Elena has been comforting Stefan’s insecurities regarding their relationship since season 1, episode 7. On the rooftop, Elena was pragmatic with her comments toward Stefan by expressing her thoughts and feelings in small measures.

Maribel Humble

Harry, thank you for pointing out that Elena was in the wrong for trying to make Damon feel guilty for telling her that he would have saved her and not Matt. It is like Harry said about the logistic of the drowning scene where we would save whoever is conscious because otherwise, we will not save anyone. Elena is suicidal due to survival guilt. Back in season three, when the brothers toss the coin for who is going to kill Abby, both of them are aware that Elena would choose to die to save her friends. What Rose says to Jeremy about Damon's challenging and surprising Elena makes it clear that Elena needs someone to stand up to her.

Kimberley83

No the show proved exactly what Rose said Damon is either the best for her or the worse. She said Stefan was her best decision I believe later on she will say his will prove to be my worse decision
