I'd be so offended if I were Gaius that over 20 years of loyalty is flushed down the drain the moment some stranger comes in and lies believably. But, as much as I love Gaius, I can't deny that it IS horrific of him to turn a blind eye to what was an actual genocide of magic users. The only reason that I can think of that he did that (based off what has been revealed thus far) is either to save his own skin or his friendship with Uther, both of which are not good reasons (if any exists) to pretend that innocent people aren't being slaughtered right in front of you. Bit of a long road of redemption for him since he's done nothing in the 20yrs since to pay his penance (not that there was any way for him to do so without Merlin around).

Loving these comments you've been leaving, has been nice returning to this show 🥹 has been too long. Gaius' treatment of his fellow magic users has always been a rough spot for me, I love him sm but I just can't look past that when they were all slaughtered 😭

So you asked about what it meant for Gaius to be a freeman, and in that regard it means he was not a serf. Serfs were bound to certain land, they were bound to serve a certain noble. But freemen were non-nobles who weren't as bound. So they were the peasantry who had more rights than most other peasantry.

Ahhhh thank you!! I was so confused cause he wasn't imprisoned or anything lol
