I love how you said that you basically have to have a different moral compass to enjoy a show like the Vampire Diaries. The characters themselves seem to have their own version of morality. Stefan was so judgmental of Damon for killing those 12 people to break the sire bond, but he has no problem killing people to make Elena human again. He also killed countless people with Klaus in order to save his brother's life. Caroline was extremely hypocritical in her judgement of Elena having feelings for Damon. Let's not forget that Tyler was a huge piece of shit who would beat up people and assault girls. Why is Tyler allowed to grow and change in her eyes, but not Damon? The ultimate hypocrisy is that she is developing some kind of feelings for Klaus and she has the audacity to judge Elena.

This episode is a huge one in terms of making a point on characters motivations, personality and the consequences of overstep boundaries having a ripple effect on other's life. Stefan and Lexi. We saw Lexi for the first time and we immediately liked her and Damon killing her without much of a second thought we consider it unforgivable. But then we saw Damon in the past asking her to take care of his brother, and we saw she did. After that her and Damon never met again until the 1940. So how she knows that Damon has no restrain, never had and Stefan is better off without him? On which base she formed this strong opinion at the point of overstepping on family business and creating even more misunderstanding between the brothers? Stefan’s account of things. We saw at the beginning of the flashbacks Stefan reversing the speech he was going to give to Damon and we saw that he blames Damon for becoming the ripper of Monterey. But we, audience saw what happen, Damon had no idea that Stefan had problems in controlling his blood lust. He stayed away from Stefan because he was mad at him for turn him and condemn him to a “life alone drinking people blood” reached out to bond over what he just learn from Sage that you could make the experience of being forced to drink people blood fun, wanted to share this with Stefan, his much loved brother, he had no idea that would have this effect of Stefan. Of course Stefan blame Damon for his actions, because Stefan never take responsibility for his actions, he is blissfully not self aware of his oun flaws, because is so much easier to blame his brother, the bad brother, to bad mouthing him to anybody, Lexi. Elena (in season one) to keep is own reputation intact and trash his brother that has already a bad reputation, than take responsibility, face his problems and accept the fact that he is no longer the golden boy his father made him believe to be. Stefan and Lexi a perfect couple of self righteous people that think they know best and they don’t. She had no right to interfere so heavily in the brothers life, she is in fact the one that kept them apart. It took her twenty years to get Stefan’s back to normality with her draconian methods. We saw that took Damon very little time to bring Stefan’s back from his humanity switch, because Damon and Stefan no matter what, they love each other. Damon and Stefan are brothers, they should have never being kept apart. That is one of the reason Damon resented Lexi and never liked her...there is more...and I happen to agree with him Going back to Stefan narrative, we saw countless times, where the writers, had Stefan said something, or writing it on his diary things that are shown with images to the audience, to be in fact the opposite. We saw him lying to Elena in season one, hiding the truth to her in order to seduce her, retain information about her and sleeping with her before telling her everything he knew. So who is here the one that took advantage of his position with Elena’s vulnerability, naivety, immaturity? And now because Elena finally realise that Stefan is not what she wants, probably never was, but circumstance made her detour her love life in Stefan’s directions, he is worried she is exposed to manipulation because the sire bong, how hypocritical. We need to confront two scenes, that are a parallel. Season 1, Elena confronting Stefan of his lying about Katherine, and Stefan forced to spill the beans, and because he slept with her without telling her of Katherine, the situation looks really bad, he risk losing her. So to reverse the situation, he sweet talk her making himself looking the hero, by telling her he save her and that he knows she is adopted. Anybody else would be so mad at him, not Elena because she is vulnerable, she is just a traumatised girl that lost her parents, and Stefan’s knows how to push things in his way, by deflecting the conversation telling her that none of this matters because she is the woman he loves. The level of manipulations in that scene is beyond masterful, he has all the control. Now this season. Elena just stubbed Jeremy and learned that Stefan compelled him and he has made some deal with Klaus, and she is mad at him, because they have a history of him keeping things from her, and lying, but this time she doesn’t let him sweet talk her and making talk his way out of things, now she knows him, she is no more the little girl she was before. He lost his control over her entirely. So back to the present, Damon never ever lie to her, never ever try to manipulate her to seduce her, he never ever badmouth his brother with her to have the upper hand of the situation, but quite the contrary, he always tried to patch up her and his brother. And we, audience, know that Damon isn’t selfish in the negative sense, he proved that over and over again. That is why I love Damon character and why Stefan character in this episode is just about everything I absolutely have contempt for in a person. Haughty, arrogant, self-righteous, insensitive, mean to his brother at the point of using his insecurities to hurt him, to hit him below the belt. This is Stefan at his lower point of likability. Stefan is this episode is despicable. And not only, even when he get told that being sired effect actions not emotions, he just ignore it and keep acting as he has some form of privileged claim over Elena that gives him the right to decide what Elena and Damon should do in their relationship. I understand that he is hurt because Elena split up with him, but his reaction is of a spoilt child, a sore loser, a bad brother, an absolute hypocrite that manipulate and took advantage of Elena’s vulnerability when she was young and now is preaching his brother on doing the right thing and be selflessness.

Caroline in the bathroom saying “you can say anything about ripper Stefan, but at list he is not a man slut” as if as being a gorgeous single man sleeping around having an healthy active sex life is so much worse than going around killing people brutally ripping them apart. Caroline too, in this episodes lost her mind, the old gossipy, inappropriate, Caroline is in full blast. Not Elena’s friends, Bonnie is, she doesn’t judge Elena. Bonnie and professor Shane. He clearly said to Connor and Damon that she is the key for getting to the ultimate point, when the map is completed. So he is training her to tap in very powerful magic that is disconnected with the usual power of witches, he made her drown power from the 12 council member massacre and now he is planning another one. 12 humans, 12 hybrids, what is his plan here, exactly? The sire bond. We learn that it doesn’t affect feelings, but quite the opposite, someone can only be sire if she has real feelings for the person before she was turned. So we establish that Elena’s feelings for Damon are real. So what is the sire bond? If we remember the episode when Klaus asked Tyler to bite Caroline, he disagree, but he did it anyway because of the sire bond, but he was mortified and called Caroline’s dad to teach him to control it. So the sired, respond to precise commands, but the person is aware that that command is not out of his/her will, so even though you do it, you know that that isn’t you and after you have the will to rebel against that command and reverse the outcome if you want to. Damon would never do anything to arm or to manipulate Elena. So is nobody’s business but Damon and Elena to talk this over and decide together what to do about it. Damon loves her like Stefan never did, very selflessly and contrary to his brother, he wouldn’t want her, unless he is sure 100% that what she feels is right and she has the power to decide. Damon doesn’t want to relieve the Katherine situation where he though she loved him but she didn’t.

So for everybody enjoyment here is Delena beauty, their first love scenes unspoilt by the gossip and the interference of Stefan and Caroline. You can stop any frame to notice how beautifully shoot the scenes are, they look like wonderful, also because they are, Ian in particular, is so off the chart gorgeous. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vys-WMoAd2Q

This episode has revealed to us how people act differently when they no longer can control things like they would like to be controlling. In this case I'm directly talking about Stefan. He was being a jerk! He is allowed to be heart broken and upset about his break-up with Elena but this constant need to belittle his brother is just not happening. I'm glad Damon didn't take it for too long and told him about how he had planned to come along with Stefan to war but didn't last minute because he was convinced it was best to stay away. Now, if the man didn't have selfless traits in him then why would he bother to think about what is best for someone else? Who cares if it is his brother? But he does care and always has cared. The difference is he makes no show out of it. He doesn't feel the need to do something nice and good for those who he cares about and then rave about it to paint himself as good noble person. Caroline is making me hate her this season so far. Bonnie is an example of a good friend because she herself isn't the biggest fan of Damon and has had issues with him till date but notice how she doesn't make Elena feel bad about being with Damon. Caroline on the other hand was acting more like Stefan's advocate in this case. She isn't concerned about her friend being happy and actually enjoying being a vampire instead it's more about slut shamming Damon and more. Elena had a good comeback because Caroline was the first one out of the group to be attracted to Damon. Granted he did abuse her by compelling her to do things for him so he could get around, but he never compelled her to be attracted towards him. And it doesn't sit right with me since Caroline was the person in S3 who had told Elena that if she admits she has feelings for Damon it's okay because it only means she is human. So, what happened to her? It's not like Damon did anything new to her which is making her feel extra judgy. I have said it before she doesn't like him and that's okay. No one is asking her to be approving of Damon and Elena, but she needs to stop acting like she is the queen of good choices. Her loyalty lies with Stefan which is again fine but then learn how to balance your friendships. The best part of the episode was the understanding of the sire bond between vampires. Unlike the werewolf and hybrid sire bond, this is based on human feelings. A person has to have human feelings before they turn for them to possibly have a sire bond with the vampire who turned them. Elena had feelings for Damon and that was no secret to the audience or the characters in the show. Those feelings were very deep and intense and as a result when she turned, they magnified. If they were just floating feelings, it wouldn't be the case. Thanks to Tyler we can safely say that people do know what they feel no matter if they're sired or not. They can understand what they're being asked to do is wrong or right. So, although it feels wrong to have this power control over the other person it hasn't been abused by Damon. He has never tried to get Elena to be with him without her choosing to do so herself. I simply feel bad for him because despite wanting to keep things transparent and real between him and Elena; this sire bond makes him feel otherwise.

“I don’t wanna do this Elena. I’m not the good guy remember? I’m the selfish one. I take what I want, I do what I want. I lie to my brother, I fall in love with his girl, I don’t do the right thing. But I have to do the right thing by you.” Oh lord does this scene gut me. Every time. It’s a work of pure, heartbreaking emotion. They shared this one incredible night and morning together, totally happy and blissful, reveling in the glory of their new love, only to have it tarnished by the threat that none of what Elena feels is even real. And Damon, in all his selfless glory, endeavors to do the right thing by Elena. As always. He tries to let her go because he thinks she doesn’t truly want him. Even as he stands there claiming to be the selfish one, the bad brother just for loving her in the first place, he’s attempting to do the most selfless thing he’s ever done for her. Tell her to stop caring about him. Stop loving him. When all he’s wanted this entire time is for her to reciprocate just a shadow of his feelings. And for one miraculous evening she did. He just doesn’t think any of it was real. But she’s not having any of it. After all the times they’ve both tried to let each other go over the years, this time Elena wasn’t going down without a fight. Because after months of denial, after running from what has been between them since the moment they met, she finally recognizes that what they have is the most real and honest thing in her life. Sire bond be damned. So she refuses to let him ruin this. They were happy - SHE was happy - and she wasn’t going to let some magic blood connection destroy that happiness. She loved him and she knew it. But she didn’t say that to convince him, knowing he wouldn’t believe it right now. Instead, she tore his argument down a different way, turning the tables on him as he’d done to her so many times before. She placed his hand over her rapidly beating dead heart and asked if it felt wrong. If the fact that that heart only continued to beat because his blood runs in her veins was wrong. If the way that heart seemed to beat just for him was wrong. And he had no response. No defence. Because he doesn’t think it’s wrong, not really. Then she put her hand to his cheek with the utmost love and devotion apparent in her touch and written all over her face and asked him if it felt wrong. If the tenderness she felt for him was wrong. If the intimacy they’d shared just thirty-six hours previous was wrong. And he had no response. No defence. Because it’s not wrong. None of it. Their love could never be wrong. The way it manifested itself could never be wrong. Elena knew it wasn’t wrong. She knew, in fact, that it was more right than anything she’d ever experienced in her life. It was good. Beautiful. Passionate. Real. So real that she wouldn’t let him hide behind the sire bond. She dug her heels in and fought for him - for them - because it was right. Because it was what she wanted, what she’d always wanted deep down. She let her love for him be what his love for her has been so many times in the past. Stubborn as hell.

Also in what world is being a man whore worst than being a ripper? Caroline blindly defends Stefan when she has not seen the worst of him.

Maribel Humble

What makes Stefan's behavior so deplorable in this episode is that he already knew Elena has loved Damon since 3x18, 4x2, he told Caroline that he was holding Elena back when she turned into a vampire. So why is Stefan behaving like this? He is an entitled sore loser who saw Elena had his property. Many fans say that Elena didn't deserve Stefan. So what do I say to this? Stefan didn't earn Elena’s love because he stalked her; he learned a lot of this from her before he intruded into her life by lying and manipulating Elena to fall in love with him.

Patpet

Basically he told er when they split up, that he can understood that she has feeling for Damon, when he was the riper, why because HE drove her to it, (he did, not Elena elaborating and evaluationg things) but know that he has return and he is the perfect brother the best choice, it is uncomprehensible that she would dare to chose his brother over him. He doesn't even consider the possibility that Elena is ac tually better matched with Damon that they have develop real feelings for each other, indipendently not as a result of him, but because Damon has qualities he doesn't have, becuase he never let her down, because he always choose her, because his love grow not because her resemblence to Katherine, but because of her, and because he never laid to her or try to manipulate her. Stefan his so blind to his own flaws that he doesn't want to listen he is blaming all to the sire bond, "she doesn't love me anymore because she is sire to Damon" and Caroline is reinforcing this delusion. Elena love for Damon is so real that she even find te streigth to stand up to Caroline to defend him throwing her out setting boundries of where friendship ends and became unrequested interferience and disrespect for her chosen partner.

Maribel Humble

Guys, don't worry about the sire bond because it is one of the best things that happened to Damon and Elena. The only potential problem is that Elena would want to do what Damon says to please him. When we love someone, we want to do things for them, and Elena's situation that needs to satisfy Damon is intensified. Now the sire bond CAN NOT be broken by magic. The opposite of magic is natural consequences, so, therefore, Elena's feelings for Damon are real. The fact that the sire bond is not created by magic is a huge deal, and you guys know why. Elena fell in love with Damon after getting to know him despite all his imperfections. Protecting the people he loves is essential to Damon's character. He saves Elena with all his might even when some of his manners are questionable because there is nothing he won't do or places he won't go to protect the ones he loves. Damon didn't manipulate Elena to love him. He didn't expect her to fall in love with him because he thought he didn't deserve her. The first time Damon saw Elena, he let her go because he didn't want to bring all the supernatural drama into Elena's human life. Now, when it comes to Stefan, he stalked Elena to find out everything he could about her. He intruded into Elena's life when she was vulnerable due to her parent's death. Stefan manipulates Elena into falling in love with him. Stefan knew more about Elena than she knew about him, creating a power inequality among them where Elena's capacity to choose was taken away from her. Stefan used everything he found out about Elena, even family secrets, to retain her, especially when Elena found out about Katherine's picture. I believe that Elena didn't love Stefan because how can you love someone if you don't know them? That was infatuation but not love. So guys, take your favorite drink and relax because Elena's love for Damon is real. For those fans who love to use the sire bond against Damon and Elena as a weapon, tell them: “fuck you bitches” and then take your drink and enjoy‼️🤣🤣😘

Applaud Bonnie in this episode for being a good friend because even when she disagreed with Elena's choices, she didn't overstep her boundaries as a friend.
