Harry dear don’t worry you look cute with glasses. The point of a fantasy show is to challenge your moral compass and to make you look at things from an entirely new prospective. It’s like being guest to another culture house, you live your rules outside the door and accept the house owner rules of the house, in this case the writers rules. TVD is never superficial and every character has depth and motivations that made them the hero of their own story. Don’t worry nobody sane likes Klaus at this point, but everybody like you is questioning if there is something redeeming about him because we saw he is capable to be charming. But he is most definitely a villain, an implacable one, you cross him and there is no escape he will make you pay, you are surely dead. Is the certainty of his merciless reactions that makes stand out the time when he show mercy and with whom, Caroline and the Salvatore brothers, both of them did more to him to trigger his vengeance, but he hadn’t retaliated as he would have with any other person. I am with you, I really liked Carol because of her love for her son, Tyler and because she embodied the town, the parties, the many events our group lived through, where lots of things happened, and now Tyler is an orphan, his dad died, his uncle died, his packed died, his mom died, he is alone. So yes Carol death shock me too. This show is really good at making you bonding emotionally with any character. I didn’t like that Caroline told Stefan, what was not her business to tell, especially because Elena in the last episode specificatelly told her not to tell Stefan because she needed to figure out things. An as ususla thing when they come out form the mouth of people that aren't directly involved come out at the wrong time an in the wrong manner. Damon and Elena just delay one day, they needed time to process things, which is more than understandable. Stefan is an ex, he is not anymore her boyfriends, he doesn’t have any privilege of ownership on Elena’s decision, or feelings, or actions. Also he is so bend in characterising his brother as a bad person, he hasn't took the time to really get to know his brother. Stefan has that typical personality that to raise himself up has to put his brother down. Stefan and Caroline in these episodes are being very annoying, haughty, judgemental, petty. Stefan act like a sore loser and Caroline is been very insensitive towards Elena and Tyler.

Klaus is the perfect antihero. He's a dark and complex person who's lived a long time. There is endless creative material that can be derived from a character like him, which is why they made a whole spin off focusing on him and the Originals. If you think Vampire Diaries is dark, just you wait. I like that this episode touched on the fact that Klaus is lonely and he's always felt that way. Of course locking his siblings away doesn't help. We've seen that he demands loyalty from those close to him, and when he feels like he's been betrayed, he viciously retaliates. I think his strong, almost pathological need for loyalty stems from how his parents treated him. His father hated him, abused him, and tried to kill him for over a thousand years. His mother had an affair resulting in his conception, but then put a curse on him to suppress his wolf side. Klaus was betrayed by the two people who should have loved and protected him unconditionally. Klaus wanted to create hybrids to have a sort of wolf pack that he was denied. When the hybrids, including Tyler, reversed the sire bond, he saw that as the ultimate betrayal. Even without the sire bond, Klaus could have compelled the hybrids to stay with him. He instead chose to get revenge by killing them and Carol Lockwood. In Klaus's eyes, a dagger and coffin for his wayward siblings must seem a tame punishment in comparison. Villains aren't born, but are made from their life circumstances. Stefan points out that they the supposed "good guys" are not that different from Klaus. Stefan himself has killed countless people and memorializes his victims, just like Klaus. Say what you want about Klaus but at least he doesn't pretend to be the good guy, while manipulating and killing people for their own gain, ie Stefan.

I really like how this season, the season where Elena becomes a vampire, morality is an underlying theme throughout. Stefan and Caroline's conversation about Klaus wasn't about equating their crimes against humanity, but about how as vampires they've all killed at some point and that's something they have to live with. The difference between the "good guys" and Klaus is that they have remorse while Klaus does not. Klaus is clearly a villain and an antihero, who kills impulsively and will never admit he's wrong. The fact that Stefan and Caroline can show some empathy to a man who's caused so much pain also proves why they are the good guys and the ones we're supposed to be rooting for.

Wait have we already learned the fact that the curse was put on Klaus by his mother? I thought we learn that way later in the Originals but I'm probably misremembering it

Adding on the subject of Klaus. The show does villain very well, if there wasn't anything to fight for to go against with, to challenge the main characters it would make a very boring show. The writer challenge to a writer is to create a great villain someone, with dept, with a solid background and an interesting psychological profile; someone you don't share his morality but that is understandable you know why he does what he does and has to be hugely entertaining. Quite a task. But Klaus, clearly and by far fits the bill in all the part. He is a magnificent villain, unforgettable, one of the best and most complex villain of TV history, at the point that he inspired a very successful spin off. So Harry don't worry, sit back and enjoy the ride, though the journey that the writers have lay out for you and everything will be clear.

I’m pretty sure they talked about the curse in season 3. It’s why he needs Elena’s blood to make the hybrids. She was supposed to die in the sacrifice, but since she didn’t he was able to produce hybrids. (Which Esther did not want)

Totally agree that TVD makes amazing villains. One of my favorites is in season 6…

Patpet

By the way @Harry who told you that TVDU doesn't have LGBTQ representation is wrong....and I say no more.

They also talked about the curse at the end of season 2 I think when Klaus was trying to break it. Elijiah said that they made up the Sun and moon curse and that the real curse was the one put on Klaus.

Patpet

Oh yes don't we all? But I also love the season 7 ones too.

I totally understand your feelings towards Klaus because honestly, I have felt the same way despite watching this show more than 2-3 times. I haven't been able to find a single thing that makes me want to like Klaus or look at him differently. I know he's been wronged in the past especially by two people who should have loved him and protected him the most: his parents. But I'm sorry that isn't an excuse I can use every time to defend him or like him. He has had so many chances to build solid relationships and his siblings especially Rebekah has been there for him despite him being a jerk all the time; so honestly, he is lonely but it's his own doing and choice at the end of the day. When he killed Carol, that was the painful part. Like you, my mum is my favourite person in the world and if someone is going to take revenge on another person by harming/killing their family member it's just the worst. I know everyone in this show has done bad things but what makes it different is that they end up regretting it, admitting it was wrong and at some level try to do better. But with Klaus, he is an out and out villain with some great layers to his character in terms of writing, but it somehow doesn't work with me and it's okay. P.S. You look good in glasses and don't stress about the reflecting. Just take care of yourself and hope you're getting better sleep.

Caroline in this episode again was a disappointment for me as a friend and as a girlfriend. Tyler had confided in her because she is his girlfriend and he trusted her, but she doesn't respect that and ends up blabbing to Stefan. I know she has her share of unsaid duties as a vampire to stick with the vampire OG gang but come on, she could do better. And I still don't get why she thinks it's okay to tell people things that aren't her business. Elena had asked her to keep things from Stefan because she needs time to figure things out and she herself would tell him things he should know. But no, Caroline decides to take on the responsibility to share things that she herself doesn't fully know about. Worst, it ends up creating misunderstandings. Damon and Elena simply took one day but at then he did do the right thing by his brother and Elena; he set her free. What more do they want from him? Why are they expecting him to break-up with her without having any time for himself to process things? Just childish and immature expectations.

The love of a good mother knows no boundaries or monsters that she won't face. Carol's only thoughts when she saw Klaus all bloody were her son's safety. The last thing she thought about was her safety until it was too late. I did enjoy seeing a good mother on TVD since they are so hard to come by on this show. May you RIP Carol Lockwood.

Harry Allen

Im trying to remember exactly what they said, I THINK it was that the representation is bad (like its there but its not good?) but I will have to see for myself!

Patpet

Oh people say lots of things about TVDU that are inaccurate or totally false. But you will be the judge of it, when you will see them. To be honest I can't think of why they might say they are bad.
