Klaus Mikaelson, the original vampire-werewolf hybrid, has returned to the supernatural melting pot that is the French Quarter of New Orleans - the city his family helped build 300 years ago. Determined to help his brother, Elijah leaves their sister Rebekah behind and follows Klaus. Elijah learns that the beautiful and rebellious werewolf Hayley - Klaus' one-time flame - has fallen into the hands of a witch named Sophie Deveraux. When Sophie reveals some life-changing news, Elijah realizes that the Original family may have been given a second chance at humanity and redemption. Klaus, however, is more intrigued by his recent unexpected reunion with his former protégé, Marcel, a charismatic but diabolical vampire who now has total control over the supernatural inhabitants of New Orleans. Klaus vows to reclaim what was once his - the power, the city and his family. Cami and Davina also appear.

Yay one of my favourite shows ever! 😍

Catherine Noble

You will find this show a lot more 'adult' focused. Of course TVD centers around high school kids, whereas TO is centered around adults. Just a different vibe, but same universe. I started out by watching TO, loved it, found out it was a spin off and then watched TVD. Love them both!

Patpet

Sorry to strongly disagree, it is not, the fact that TVD has teenager doesn't mean that is less adult, it is quite the opposite and if you said so is because you haven't understood the complexity of the subjects explored in TVD that only adults can understand. TO on the contrary, is far simpler, in every aspect, and even kid can get it, there is nothing to interpreted and the subject explored here are essentially two power and family. There is a reason because TVD won 37 awards and TO none. Still TO is great show, Because is part of the TVD universe and because is written by the same people, but they haven't given to TO te depth given to TVD because when you write two show at the same time, of 22 eòpisode each, one of them has necessarelly to be simpler and less "branier".

I agree with Catherine :) I found it harder to comprehend when I watched a bit of TO years ago back when I was 17, unlike more recently when I got into the show more. And since I also would say it's more 'adult', I found it much more interesting at 20/21 years old. I would be surprised if most people would say TO would be easier to follow for 'kids' than TVD but to each their own. Both shows are very complex in different ways and of course, TVD won all those awards for a reason. Have in mind that I also haven't finished TO yet, so I can't fully speak on it I guess

I mean you can't see Klaus right now as someone who would be rational and work with his family. He is a psychopathic villain of the whole franchise who has had childhood traumas with an abusive father. You have to see him through that lens and understand how he sees it. Yes, it's hateful but expecting him to be good or worthy of redemption would not go well I think. Plus, he is about power right now, his thought process has been that.

Kitty Underwood

I don't hate Klaus and didn't by the time this show started, but him daggering Elijah pissed me off so bad
