I told you the writers are brilliant. But I would like to make just one point. The fact that TVD has teenager and TO have so far only Davina as young person, doesn't mean that TO is for a more "mature" audience than TVD. The difference is in depth. The depth and the intricacy of TVD is not on the reach of a child or a young adult, the young audience cannot possibly understand the wide variety of the subject explored in TVD or the psychology employed to define the profile of the characters, with their traumas, their upbringing and how everything effected their personality, their lives, their actions and their ability to function and to interact with the world and with people around them, their reaction to the dangers they face etc. There is no way that teenagers can get all of this, because of lack of experience, knowledge of life, relationships, knowledge of basic psychology, history, past show, films, literary references etc. That is why, unfortunately, TVD has the most toxic part of audiences I've ever seen in a show, with character hatred, complete misunderstanding of characters motivations, taking what it is said in the dialogues as face value, not understanding the body language used to express the opposite or the antiphrasis used all the time. TVD is not for young audiences, they don't get it, how could they? And that is a fact. TO otherwise is way less deep and complex, therefore the audience of all age get it, there is no battle, no character misunderstanding, no toxicity. So here, the age of the actors don't make the "maturity" required to understand a show. That is why TVD won 38 Awards and TO none, and TVD is in the list of most watched show of all times and TO isn't. Having make that distinction and clarification, I am not saying that TO isn't brilliant too, after all are the same writers. By the way I share the love for Elijah, Damon and Elijah are my favorite characters, but that is all because Ian Somerhalder and Daniel Gillis play them, they are brilliant actors capable to make their characters seductive, captivating, unique and unforgettable, to own their role and on top of that they are off the chart gorgeous, attractive and very sexy.

Seasons 1-4 TVD > TO> Seasons 5-8 TVD, is how i feel about these shows

Anaïs

I agree with you. Although, I personally think S4 of TVD was equally a mess as the ones that followed, I feel that only the early seasons were thrilling and TO really covered that as well.

Anaïs

I personally enjoy TO much more than TVD. The cast and story is really more engaging, specially after S4 of the TVD where I feel the writing really went down. I feel like they took a lot of liberties from books that originally was supposed to be adapted, from personal relationships to please the audience for fan service to plot holes, it went downhill for me but TO was really a breath of fresh air and my interest got renewed. People in the community usually enjoy more TO than TVD as well.
