Because you didn't remember her : Lucy Bennett is the relative Bonnie met in the second season, it was during the masked ball with Katherine when she linked Katherine and Elena back then but ended up switching side when she talked and discovered that Bonnie was also involved

The reason why they are afraid for Liv and Luke's lives, regarding Kai, isn't necessarily out of fear of merging, it's because they are also twins, and they are the ones currently in line to merge to be leaders... So Kai's aim, or their worry over his actions, it's the fact that right now they, as twins who have the same age and everything, are #1 in line above him and Joe; they were from the beginning when their parents decided to have more children and try for another set of twins... So the logical step, giving also the fact that he is a psycho, is that he is going to take out the competition first before trying to merge with Joe and take control of the coven, and probably kill them as well

Damon doesn’t need to do things to convince Elena that he is a god guy and enter into her grace again, he knows she loves him, that what they have is true love, that she choose him because they are as compatible as compatible can get. He is 100% doing it for Bonnie and for the love he has for her and for their friendship and because one of the main characteristics of Damon is his loyalty to the people he loves that show him genuine love in return. Bonnie sacrifice her life for him, and for most of the people she loves, we are talking about saving Bonnie trapped with a psychopath, and if to get that done requires compulsion to get the ascendant, so be it, after all Jo has being in the picture for 5 minutes and Bonnie is Bonnie. Damon is the one that gets thing done no matter what, even at the risk to be hated. There is no other way to get to the other world without the ascendant, and is not like Kay is back on this side because of Damon and Elena, he is back independently. Jo was keeping the ascendant to avoid getting Kay back, but he is back without Jo’s ascendant. They should have figured it out that everything that is in their world is in the other world too. So this world ascendant was needed for the sole purpose of getting Bonnie back, and they would have succeeded if it wasn’t for Kay threatening Liv. And now Bonnie is alone. You can tell that Damon is devastated about it. So no, this had nothing to do with Elena. Damon never ever wanted Elena on false pretences, with tricks, or manipulation, with the sire bond etc. All of this was put there to prove times and times again that Damon is all about true love and honesty of feelings, Damon is very honourable about it. He always wanted him and Elena to be real, honest, chosen out of free will and be true and honest love. He would have never used Bonnie to get to Elena, that is so not Damon, in fact when she imply that he was offended, and rightfully so, like “ how dare you thing that my intentions regarding Bonnie are less than noble and have anything to do with you?”. Damon’s love for Bonnie is as pure and genuine as it is his love for Elena and his brother. The banters between Damon and Bonnie are a tease, a the fake bickering establishing that the boundaries of what it is allowed to say or not between two people, it has now expanded into the realm of close friends intimacy, where exchanging remarks in a good-humoured teasing way is perfectly normal and fun.

Exactly, you're right on the point. Damon always wanted his love for Elena to be real. That everything she feels for him comes from her and not from some influence. He says this in season 1 episode 14 when Elena asks him why he didn't manipulate her in Atlanta. His answer: I wanted it to be real. The friendship between Bonnie and Damon is so wonderful and Damon loves and admires Bonnie. And Bonnie also loves Damon now. She understands that he's not the bad guy and that sometimes things have to be done. I think she has understood through all the conversations with Damon that he is capable of deep feelings and wants to protect everyone he loves, just like herself.

Of course it wasn't right to compel Alaric but I can also understand Damon doing everything he can to help Bonnie. He would do anything to save the one he loves. He barely knows Jo and Bonnie is just more important to him. Yes, and somehow Damon and Elena also seem to be the only ones trying to help Bonnie. Bonnie has done everything to save Enzo, Alaric, Stefan and Tyler from the other side and none of the 4 seem to care about getting Bonnie out of prison world. The last scene is so heartbreaking. Bonnie realising that Damon and Elena are gone and breaking down crying. Damon who is devastated because he couldn't help Bonnie and looks so lost. Elena standing in the background, comfortingly stroking Damon's shoulder with her hand.

Our friend Newmoon made two comments about this episode, here is N.1: “Actually I think Damon is doing this fully for Bonnie and the thought that he could use this to make Elena fall in love with him didn’t even cross his mind because Damon was never a person who would do things to get other people’s admiration. Even when he was in love with Elena and she was not loving him back, he was still hiding his good deeds from her but he could’ve use them to earn points with her and instead all those moments remained secret between him and us the viewers and Elena never even found out about them. So Damon was completely honest when he told her, he’s doing this purely for Bonnie and not for her. If you pay attention to how Elena reacted and what she said after she found out what Damon did : “ no matter who he hurts in the process as long as Damon gets what Damon wants”, it’s so similar to what she said to him in season 1 episode 17: “of course as usual Damon gets what he wants no matter who he hurt in the process”. Elena remembers Damon just like how she knew him in season 1, the old Elena with her memories would’ve never reacted this way to Damon, she fell in love with Damon knowing exactly who he is and doing wrong things for right reasons was always Damon’s specialty and she fell in love with that too so with her memories she would’ve understood it a lot better but without her memories, it’s understandable why she acted this way, she only remembers him as season 1 Damon so she thought he’s just a selfish guy who’s using Bonnie to manipulate Elena in to falling in love with him all over again and when he explained the whole thing to her, honest as usual that why he’s so grateful to Bonnie for his survival so he’s doing this for her because he actually cares about her just like how Elena cares about Bonnie, that made Elena look at Damon in a complete different shades of light that he actually cares about other people apart from her and Stefan. What she remembers of Damon and what she sees right now are in contrast with each other and she’s choosing to trust what she sees right now. That’s why she apologised for erasing those memories, she was wondering what are other wonderful things about Damon that she doesn’t remember now. The fact that she acknowledged those memories were only half hers is very important because sometimes we forget that our memories don’t just belong to us, every memory is shared and it belongs to everyone who was involved in that memory so we can’t just erase them without the other one’s permission and the fact she was seeing how much Damon was holding on to those memories when he was in the prison world, she felt guilty about the fact she let them go that easily so she acknowledging this is very important. The thing is you can’t never erase love but you can erase memories so Elena’s love for Damon is not gone, it’s just buried underneath layers and layers of altered memories that altered Elena’s perception of Damon so if all those altered memories were proven to be wrong, one by one, love could return because mind can forget but heart never does.”

N. 2: “Even without Elena’s memories Elena finding out what Damon did to Alaric didn’t harm their relationship and ironically it helped their relationship even progress because Damon was never the type who hides himself from Elena and only shows him his good side he was always upfront with her and dead honest, so if Elena’s gonna fall in love with Damon again, she’s gonna have to fall in love with all of him his darkness along with his light, Good and bad and everything in between. One of the things that Elena admired about Damon and made Elena fall in love with him in the first place was that she was able to see beauty in Damon’s darkness and as the result she eventually was able to see beauty in her darkness as well. As we know World is not black and white, this world is always gonna push us to make some difficult decisions but no one wants to be the “bad guy”, no want to be hated and to be in everyone’s bad grace so its gonna take courage if someone volunteers to do that dirty but necessary work, take all the blames and accept all the consequences so no one else has to, there’s actually huge element of selflessness to this and Elena was able to see it in this episode just like how she saw it the first time she fell in love with Damon. That’s why I absolutely love how she put her hand on his shoulders after he got punched, it reminds me of how she gave him a hug after he found out Katherine was never in a tomb, she was showing him her support because she knows it’s not Damon’s fault that Kai got out. Even though what Damon did is considered “morally wrong” but if we look deep in to it, we find hidden beauty underneath the bad guy action that only Elena could see and that’s why she didn’t chase after Alaric to convince him it was not Damon’s fault because he was understandably and rightfully angry and he would never understand the way she does, so instead she stayed with Damon, gave him her compassion because that’s what he needed. The reason Damon was not willing to wait for Alaric to come up with another way to save Bonnie was because Damon still thought that Bonnie was trapped with Kai who’s a psychopath so there was no telling what he could do to her and who knows how long it was gonna take for them to come up with another solution, saving Bonnie was urgent before Kai could hurt her any further. As you mentioned, Stefan was not opposing to the idea either because he even knew that’s the only option but he himself didn’t do that, he let Damon do it just like how he always let Damon do all the dirty works.”
