tbh i blame stefan more than i blame elena about the letter. yes stefan had to pretend his humanity was still off but still, why would he just let caroline burn the letter? like if i was stefan i would just give up and quickly give it back to elena at that point. its not like he even had to get it from caroline, HE burned it. was it really more important to keep up the act than to keep the one thing caroline had left of her mother? theyre already locked in there together, whats the worst thing that could happen if caroline found out, she gets a bit mad? that would just help them

Harry Allen

I was rewatching the scene while I was editing and I thought the same thing. Like come on now, that letter would be WAY more important than you trying to (and obviously failing lol) keep up the lie.

right?? the whole letter situation was so frustrating

Totally agree. Elena was just the messenger, he was supposed to do the work and what he does? Pull the usual Stefan 'let's not create controversy, let's be the usual yes man" .

It is annoying. I think they played the letter card WAY too soon. This should have been the very last resort. In the end though, it was the fact that she could not read the letter and will never know what her mom had to say that overwhelmed her and brought her back. He didn't necessarily fail though, because he made her think that she had control over the situation and managed to escape. Then he made her have the encounter with her mom and it worked. He showed her Liz writing the letter and made her want to read it but she couldn't because she burned it. So yes, burning the letter was stupid but in the end it was the absence of that letter that gave the final push. They should have made a copy though to give it to her after, that would have been nice. This whole Elena wanting to be human thing - I find it super convenient that the show is starting to push this narrative of her wanting to have kids and be human just when the cure is in play again. Like ... it would have worked a lot better for me if they had Elena question things earlier or before the cure came back and not after. Also, remember that time when Stefan was 100 per cent sure that Elena did not want to be a vampire and wanted to find the cure for Elena so she could have the CHOICE ( because he was not going to shove it down her throat ) to take it? I just find it very interesting how Stefan got villanized for trying to get the cure to Elena ( and yes I know he went to dark places in order to do that ) because he knew she would never be completely happy as a vampire and here we are - he was right.

I think the show has done a good job at making it clear that Elena would have rather been human and have kids the whole time. When she first turned she was upset about it for a while, and when the cure was first in play she did want it. But she was also able to come to terms with the supposed fact that that was no longer an option for her, so she didn't dwell on it, and I think that's nice. Also, the last few seasons they have been in college, so even if she were still human these wouldn't necessarily be the years she was thinking about kids, even if she eventually wanted them. It came up when it did because someone she was close to was having a kid, and also as Jo said, Alaric used to be vampire and was now having a kid, so that hit even harder for Elena I think. It's coming out even more after that because Damon has been talking to her about it, because he obviously knows of the cure and wants to see how she really feels. She wouldn't be talking about it without him asking her these questions, because as far as she knows it's not a possibility so why dwell. However, since Elena herself was adopted, idk why adoption is seemingly never considered, but whatever

Kitty Underwood

I don't think Damon was never going to give Elena the cure. I think he was just working up the courage to do it. He was asking her all of those questions though, and maybe he was partially hoping her answers would be different, but given what her answers actually were I think he would have given it to her if he'd had more time

Nah at best she gets a little mad, at worst she kills him. While I agree that it was a dumb move, I wouldn't blame Stefan for going through the plan. She has to want emotions and at this point she's actively avoiding. All the letter would've done is made her vengeful. Caroline would've destroyed it anyways before letting keep it

Guys, I know the burned letter is so frustrating, but think about the relationship that Caroline and Liz had. After everything mother and daughter went through, think about what Liz would want to tell her daughter after she passed away.
