I think Aurora did genuinely try to kill herself and that Rebekah saving her was purely by chance. It’s suggested that Aurora was going through some kind of depressive episode right before she turned into a vampire so it makes sense she’d try to end her life.

Any other point in history, I wouldn’t expect what Elijah did to come between them. But for Klaus I think it goes much deeper than a heartbreak. His feelings of inadequacy and unworthiness of love have existed within him pretty much since he was born because of how Mikael treated him and later on Esther. Aurora was the first person he ever let in and the first person to ever accept him fully and wholly for who he is (not even his siblings bc they didn’t know he killed Esther at this point but Aurora did). So to lose her the way he did, with Aurora cruelly rejecting him and throwing every moment of vulnerability back in his face is the event that turned his heart to stone. In the next 1000 years he never let himself be vulnerable again in the way he was with Aurora. Finding out that Elijah was the cause of that and he did it intentionally must've felt like a knife in the heart.

i cant help but notice that in 3x13 of The Vampire Diaries when Klaus tells Elijah that he killed their mother he had such a minute reaction and that shocked Stefan and Damon as well as they thought that would leverage Elijah to their side. now we know why he didn't react is because he already knew. the writers are just insane

this is why Klaus is the better sibling and person cuz he doesnt hide who he his siblings do. Elijah knew this but every time he had the chance to blame Klaus for his failed love interest i remember this and elijah murdering Tatia allowing esther to take the blame
