Don't listen to kids that watch the show for the romance and never went deepper than that, that is why they don't care for season 7 and 8. For us aduts season 7 and 8 are fantastic, because are very psychologial, very important to understand the brothers, why they are the way they are. So now Stefan and Damon are inside the phenix Stone. Apparently the stone is hell and punishhment for all the bad things they have done, but it turns out to be far more interesting and much complex than that. As we see we are going to see a part of Damon's life we haven't seen yet, which is him during the war time. And I can tell you next episode is my personal favourite of the entire show and open a window in the brothers phyche. In regard of Stefan and Damon different point of view about Lily, Stefan was 7 years younger than Damon when Lilly was alive, and she didn't go after Stefan when she came back, she spoke Damon's words to make Stefan come back from his humanity off, words he obviously believed and that of course is why he has a very different impression of reality than Damon has. And as usual, instead of listening to his older brother, he thinks he knows better, he is always ready to judge Damon in the most harsh way, instead of realising that if he had a fairly normal childhood is ONLY due to Damon and he is not validating what Damon went through, the abuse and the rest, Elena is still in the coffin because of Lilly, which are not things you can forgive. That is not right, it's ungreatful and unsesitive because Damon is profunly hurt, even if he doesn't act like it because that is Damon, he doesn't like to show how vulnerable he is, that is because of his abuse. Not showing he was hurt was his way of rebel to the abusers, not to give them the satisfaction to see him broken. So, not showing his vulnerable side, the effect that hurting has on him, burying his traumas deep down, and using humour as a band aid is profundly inbeadedd in Damon's personality. Keep that in mind for the next episode. Also we know that Stefan is not the most self-aware character in regards of his flaws and his lackings, hence he is not a very good listener. His judgmetal attitude is coming from not wanting to face his own issues and Damon is his favourite target, his puchball, where to pour his frustartions on, and in doing so he can go as far as he feels going, knowing that Damon is never going to hurt him back. That is why I love this show so much, the relationships dynamics are very well written and very realistic. Damon was forced to be a parent to Stefan, to protect him, and he is acting as any parents would when an hungry kid yeal horrible things to him, he doesn't retailate as a sibling would with equal force, he just take it, but that doesn't mean that Stefan's words don't hurt him. Stefan knows that Damon just take whatever he thow at him, that is why Stefan that cares about reputation most of all with anybody, doesn't with Damon, because he know that he can go as far as he feels with him, Damon will still love him, no matter what, as a parent would. And that is why Damon is so important to Stefan and can't do without him, because he is the only person that never judged him and never stopped love him. That is why Stefan is codependent to Damon. Keep that in mind too. Oh boy, next episode!!! Can't wait.

Harry, what Patpet said about seasons 7 and 8 is true. It is a shame what those fans say about the last two seasons. Fans who only care about romance will not know how well-written TVD is. Those fans are missing a vast part of what the TVD story is about. The first time I watched TVD, I looked forward to the last two seasons to understand more about the brothers. And oh, man, did the producers deliver.‼️I suggest that anyone who does a rewatch of TVD should watch season 7, episode 7, to understand the story better. That Damon doesn't want to forgive his mother is understandable. He was the one who experienced most of the abuse from his mother and father. Nobody comes out unscathed, like what Damon went through with his parents, the people who were supposed to love and protect him. Forgiveness is not something you do at the drop of a hat. It takes time and hard work to grant forgiveness, especially when the cut is too deep.

It was very obvious to me that Damon was overcompensating in this episode. The snide comments, the excessive drinking, the overly cheery mood etc. it was almost like he was trying to convince himself that he didn’t care about Lily. We’ve seen how he reacts to being deeply hurt by someone he loves. Like in s1 when he found out Katherine wasn’t in the tomb & he decided he hated her until he was face to face with her in s2 and admitted he still loved her.

Next episode is arguably within the top 10 of the entire show

It’s definitely very realistic for children in the situation that Stefan and Damon are in with their mother to clash. One thinks why aren’t you angry enough, and the other thinks why aren’t you forgiving enough.
