I'm glad you enjoyed it, Imad! It has been a favorite of mine ever since it came out in 1982. There weren't many mainstream movies that dealt with homosexuality at the time, but it was actually based on a German film from 1933, believe it or not. The director, Blake Edwards, was Julie Andrews' husband and intended the lead role for her. An interesting thing about it is that most of the actors played very much against the type of roles they were known for. Julie Andrews was always known for wholesome, good girl roles such as the lead in The Sound of Music, so this was a departure for her. Robert Preston, who was amazing as Toddy (and was straight), was known for a lot of tough-guy roles in Westerns, but he was also, in fact, a big Broadway song and dance man before that. His most famous musical role was as the lead in The Music Man. Lesley Ann Warren was hilarious as Norma, but was never known for playing those kinds of ditzy comedic roles before. And Alex Karras, (Bernstein), was actually a famous American football player who got into acting. Anyway, thank you for a great reaction! Norma: Ooh, I just love Frenchmen! Toddy: Mmm, so do I!

This is absolutely one of my all time favorites. It’s wonderful seeing a younger person as your self embrace this iconic and classic film. It really was groundbreaking in its day. I highly recommend you watch another film staring Julie Andrews. It was also written and directed by her husband Blake Edwards and is called “10”
