I have to say how much I *adore* these dream sequences. The dream logic is so vivid and useful and psychological, River fits the soul of the place like a delight, the creative imagery and possibility it lends to the story is so flavorful… it allows this story to take a temporary step back from the restraints of its excellent grasp on continuity and instead show off just how gorgeous an imagination the author is putting into their setting and characters. When the story verges into the dreamscape like this it feels like the author is letting US step into the same metaphysical territory they use to give this story life, a beachhead in possibility-space that we can all touch.
