💯! While I’d have loved for this conversation to end more positively, I feel like it ended more true to character for both of them and where they’re at in their current journey. Especially as Onyx is only just coming to terms with his feelings for Keane, and Keane just accomplished his main goal to get his girlfriend (not yet even taking time to reflect on changing feelings towards Onyx). They feel the shift and they’re dancing around it oh-so-carefully because of their friendship and respective positions. I also hope Ethan/love triangle turns more into a friendship. I know Ethan is crushing, so I too feel bad for him, but I feel like Onyx having a queer friend will really help him right now if they can shift the dynamic.

I’m in my late 30s (so pretty old and jaded! 😉) but I don’t see it quite the same way. To me it’s not toxic at all, it’s just two young people trying to work out their feelings for one other, when actually a lot is at stake (a near lifelong friendship for one thing). They’re not communicating yet because it’s complex and they’re both pretty confused and scared. Onyx briefly opened up to Ethan in the toilets because they appear to share common ground. Also he doesn’t care for him (in the way that he does for Keane) so he can be more honest at this point. That doesn’t necessarily equal a healthy, non toxic romantic relationship option though. 🤷🏻‍♀️

As I see it, Keane x Onyx romantically is kinda shallow, other than being 2 good looking childhood friends that are exploring their sexuality, I don't think there's any other chemistry between them, they're alright as friends I guess, fooling around and playing games. And people like them because they saw those 2 attractive characters together first, if the creator had introduced Ethan first, most readers would prefer Ethan, that's how it works usually in BL, people don't care as much about the depth of the story as much as they want to see some gay fanart of their fave ship, which tends to also be the 1st ship. But Ethan is more clear about what and how he feels and seems to like communication, maybe it's my personal preference but I like him better as a love interest. But we all have our biases I guess xd. Also, Onyx better care more about Keane cuz it's his best friend and his sexual awakening, but that's cuz Onyx also knew Ethan first, he just met Ethan and already thinks so much about him, he can't let Keane go yet cuz he's all he knows, but it's clear he's crushing on Ethan too, and it's a new chapter in his life he hasn't explored yet.

Like PurpleBloom said above, I don't necessarily thing Onyx is in lobe with Ethan. When you need someone to talk to sometimes is it easier to go to the person outside of the issue to get a clear view. And, he trusts him since they each know fairly big secrets about each other. On the other hand, Onyx is afraid if he is honest with Keane, he will lose him. Sometimes the only way to stay by your love is to just be friends. If someone, of the same gender, were to suddenly profess their live to you and you don't feel the same way, you may be uncomfortable and part ways. Onyx doesn't want to risk it and I can respect it at this point in the story.

Onyx and Ethan should have a little somethin goin on. Ethan seems like a good character for development for all of those involved. While Onyx is still knee deep for Keane, having a breath of fresh air from Ethan while Keane is with Hailey(?) may be good for Onyx as well. Who knows, this may not sit well with Keane and he'll realized something of figure it out.

I love the idea that purple bloom was talking about with Nick. I think Onyx rn just needs an outlet. He found that in Ethan. Especially after this conversation with Keane he would just rather be around someone who actually is understanding who is he and how he feels versus playing a back and forth game that’s emotionally exhausting as he is with Keane. Honestly I can’t wait to see how both of these relationships develop. I’m sensing some temporary distance coming between Onyx and Keane.

It’s interesting that we see it so differently and it’s good to have the debate. For me Keane x Onyx isn’t romantically shallow at all…they share similar interests and love to spend time together. There is clearly an attraction and also an admiration there and they have both shown that they care for the other deeply (with Keane in particular actually being fiercely protective of Onyx on several occasions). They put each other first, even and especially when there are others involved. I don’t think Onyx dressing up as Lynx is solely for Keane either and it’s definitely not forced. Onyx admitted that he likes the reaction that he gets from Keane when he does it…whether it’s validation or praise and that he would actually be happy to do it more for that reason. That’s very much rooted in Onyx’s own needs and feelings though. He always has the choice to say no, yet he doesn’t. Also for me it’s not about them being “2 attractive characters together first”. Ethan has barely appeared and like Hailey is very much a side character. There’s no depth there with him whatsoever yet…either as a character of his own or with Onyx.

I'm actually satisfied with how things went. I see some people wanted them to confess and kiss again but I think it would be unrealistic and tbh kinda boring. It would be definitely too fast. Also I don't think it's right to blame Keane for saying something like that. They are childhood friends who risk losing their friendship by falling in love. The fact that Keane is already slowly changing his feelings towards Onyx is already a big step in plot. Anyway i really like this chapter and I'm looking forward to upcoming drama 😂

Yeah, and though no one really talks about it much, Keane has feelings for and an established relationship with Hailey on top of everything else. That's a lot to sort through! Plus *Hailey deserves communication and respect too*! She's a human being with feelings. Keane hopefully has that in mind a little bit too. But look, Keane is a teenager and part of that is making trash decisions. Makes for a really interesting story!
