I think it be best to go for whatever wins the poll for this update, and in a later update make it an option one can toggle between.

Honestly the poll doesn't have enough info to make a good decision. As someone above stated a rough sketch would help greatly, but the idea of swapping between both is also very appealing. This way will be more work and will take longer, but more people would be able to enjoy the game the way they want.
