The Real

Ooo, next chapter is gonna be a good one, I can't wait to see how he convinces her to train him.

I’m really liking this story so far! I’m excited to see what other sort of gifts there are and whether monsters have gifts or something similar?

"Gift of Relentless Potential: So long as you keep striving, you will never stop thriving." Since the original wording of the Gift does not mention that he specifically needs to be doing "hard labor and grueling work" will he eventually veer into magical studying of some kind? I get it that his current option are limited right now because of where he is, and who is around him to teach which is why he is mostly doing physical work but I wonder if he will try to learn other stuff like crafts, alchemy, magic, etc... Specially because of this line: "Each and every person was born with a Gift that not only made them better at that particular thing but also could be improved by them working hard in that particular thing." Which made me think that the more he tries to learn something, the better he will get better at learning itself, resultuing in a infinite positive feedback loop which means he is incentivized to learn as much as possible about anything and everything.

"He was effectively managing to get the same results as Hollywood Action Stars did without any of the guidance they relied upon to achieve their results . . ." But not without the steroids! A bucketful of GoRP a day keeps the human limitations away!

I'm glad you decided to go for the original free write. Looking forward to each new chapter. Good to have some variety instead of endless repeats of the same old IPs.

Paragraph 11 "didn’t actually have an organized religion to speak up" -> to speak of I mean, I don't really see her saying no to "hey Camilla, want to beat the shit out of me a couple hours a day?". Looking forward to next chapter

If you haven't already, you should check out Soul Engine, Age of Chaos and Breaking Providence. Pretty good original works from Cam.

Hmm, this chapter made Thomas seem like an unimaginative idiot. While Camilla is definitely the most efficient option for learning how to fight, there are seemingly plenty of ways he can prepare himself to become ready to fight instead of the two options of being trained by her or jumping off into the deep end and picking a fight. He knows some of the creatures can be beaten by untrained peasants with not particularly little bits of supernatural ability and that Gifts can make someone generally superhuman. So the things he can do to train to fight without Camilla are simple. Add a method that directly increases his durability and healing abilities. Learn how to cut things effectively, and how to puch with impact. Finally once a wave starts again, get a sole surviving monster and use them as an opponent when confident he's above the peasants. Long and short, Thomas not recognizing the potential options at his disposal to such a degree makes him look lame. Honestly, even if Camilla does say yes, he should be working on this stuff anyway.

Manipulation. Get Eloise to beg her to start a small town militia to help protect themselves.

I get the feeling that Camilla will initially tell Thomas to get fucked when he asks her to train him, then grudgingly give him things to practice so he's ready to start training...with the expectation that such work will be the straw that breaks the camel's back and whatever scheme Camilla thinks Thomas is plotting will collapse.
