It does the soul good to see Jody, you’re right about that, Jess. Now to this week’s episode. Yeah, not the greatest episode in and of itself, but a decent enough one. Whole lot of Carol in this episode. Thankfully the Valentine’s Day of it all was brief, both the characters caught up in the horror, and Dean espousing his love ‘em and leave ‘em attitude about the holiday. I just, I just tend to stay home and drink; I don’t even really eat much of anything as my appetite goes to shit on the day. I do agree that the wife (I too am not recalling her name right offhand.) was a great guest character that demonstrates the recurring thing on the show. An innocent person who gets swept up in the horrors and is suitably terrified throughout. You do feel bad for her. The husband was surprisingly upfront about the tape with Dean. Setting aside Dean’s profession, which lends itself to an open mind, I wonder if the guy’s honesty was motivated because of Dean’s candor, and how he offered the guy the benefit of the doubt, even saying “Try me.” when the guy expressed doubt that Dean would believe him. See, you thought of the film It Follows, which I haven’t seen. Quick sidenote related to that, you asked when the film and this episode came out, which I would imagine, you already looked into that. on the off chance that you did not, I looked it up, and it says this episode came out about a year after It Follows, so your statement of rip-off to the point of plagiarism would likely hold water. The whole curse business, I got more of a vhs tape from The Ring vibe from this myself. Though you mention how the curse circling back, so I guess that would be It Follows rather than The Ring. Mind you, here there’s a White Witch, and when they mention “White Witch”, I’m such a miserable fucking nerd who asks, “...Tilda Swinton’s not on this show, is she?” Rather loved when Dean asks do women actually confide in their hairdressers about shit like a husband having an affair, how you had a little shrug and nod to that. My own response was, “Even I could have told you that one, Dean.” Certainly, there was truth in advertising with the aptly named The Art of Dyeing, as Dean observes. Yes, well, I assume this witch wanted to go with Curl Up and Dye, but Carrie Fisher already beat her to it. Then we find out the villain’s more genie than witch. That revelation made me note. “Be an amusing turn of events if Dr. Bellows’s wife was a regular of this place.” Rather sweet how Dean takes on the curse to save the lady. Thus, it ends up being one of the only times you’re ok with an unwanted and unprompted kiss. He still could have bought the lady a drink first, but time was of the essence. And Dean’s happy that he’ll get some facetime with Daisy Duke. I beat Sam by a few seconds, noting, “Given you say since the age of seven, I surmise you mean Catherine Bach rather than Jessica Simpson.” More or less as soon as I say that Sam asks, “So, Bach, not Simpson.” and I had to laugh at that one. Leads to my one real criticism, and it’s nothing to do with plot. The fact that it’s not a surprise that Amara will appear as Supernatural STILL has not learned its fucking lesson about spoiling the surprise appearances in the goddamn credits. Rather loved your reaction to the villain’s small speech of killing the cheating husbands and then, killing the women as well. Good on Sam for calling her out on her “feminist” approach. The day is saved, and then we get the honesty. I KNEW that you would so appreciate that. Dean fretting about what it means that Amara is his deepest darkest desire. To be fair the description is “deepest darkest desire”. Keyword: Darkest. There’s no rule saying any of it has to be positive. Good for Sam for providing the Grade A little brother talk, and assuring Dean, that when the time comes, they’ll be ready. And I really like how it’s all but said that Sam already knew about the feelings Dean has for Amara. Probably he thought Dean knew that he knew. Which if the topic came up, Dean would likely ask how he could know that Sam knew. To which Sam could say, “Now I know you knew, but I thought you knew I knew, but you were pretending not to know I knew.” Just such an historic moment of the boys having such honesty, and again, I KNEW that you would love that, Jess. Thanks for the fun reaction.
