Quite a heavy episode today. Tis jarring how the episode just goes, “Boom, Nazis!” with its opening scene, I agree. Nice to have an update on Crowley, rather unsettling though his current predicament is. Like you say, don’t count him out. Good on Lucifer for knowing that Crowley is on some level faking. Love Crowley having the moment of honesty wrapped in defiance by calling Lucifer out on not being able to take out Amara, or else he’d have made his move against her already. Better still, though Lucifer knows Crowley is right, he can’t exactly rebuke Crowley for it, lest he show too much weakness. Open with a somewhat humorous scene with the boys where Dean’s upset about the coffee shortage. I’m both sympathetic and critical at the same time as he can drive and get more, so could Sam when they ran out, so they’re both at fault on that one. Rather sweet how you encourage Dean to drink some water. Some orange juice and/or milk wouldn’t be bad for him either. Sam chiding Dean for having the beer before noon, work retail, Sam, then see how much you talk. I also attribute the coffee shortage as the reason why Dean’s slow on the Nazi archaeology thing as he makes a Raiders reference later. I also just yell at him when he doesn’t get the Jules Verne reference, “Read a fucking book once in a while. Would ya, Dean?” Figured you’d love the time travel aspect of this. Yeah, Delphine was a good character. Would have liked to have seen more of her. Good on the captain, though understandably doubting at first, once it becomes clear that Dean is telling the truth, he adapts quickly. That one guy wanted to know about the World Series of the future. I know some baseball history, but the knowledge is limited, so you, Dean, and I would be slightly screwed on providing foreknowledge of the period. One thing I could ask the guy is, “You a Cubs fan?” and if the guy said “yes”, I’d say, “I’m so sorry, son.” Presidents I can do well with, just as you said you could do well there. Animaniacs helps out with that. Quite something when that guy got you right in the heart, Jess, and how Dean has to shoot straight with the guy. Like you said, it leads to you silently taking things in and not saying much. Sometimes that’s the best reactions; where we just take everything in and share the emotions. You spoke well of how Dean is a guy who holds the belief that there’s a way to fix this/save people, because there’s always a way, and how it guts him to be, per his description, a witness. Made worse at the end where Sam’s research implies that the situation is time turner/Doctor Who where history transpired as recorded because Dean was there. Then there’s the boys discovering Lucifer in Castiel. Love how Sam is catching the red flags, and you and I are in the same boat of loving how the cat’s out of the bag now. I am so critical of Lucifer just allowing his arrogance and overconfidence take over, thus allowing Castiel to fight back some and impart some helpful information to Sam. Then when the Hand of God only had the one kick, he already spent too much time monologuing, which allowed Sam to act. Failed endeavor for Lucifer. Well, if old Lucy is still sore about it, Sam and Dean can figure out if there’s any juice left in the Hand of God, if he likes. They could even have top men working on it right now. Whom, you may ask? Top. Men. And yes, you can cue the John Williams theme after reading that if you like. Ending on the continued candor between the brothers, which I agree with you on appreciating that. Love how Sam asks if Dean wants to talk, Dean says “no”, with the caveat that he may be willing to at a later date. I were Sam, I’d offer the statement that that’s fair. Ending with the silent contemplation as Edith Piaf plays us off. A heavy episode, as you say. One that yields a terrific reaction, Jess, thank you.
