A nice, reasonably light episode to start the year with. I like how you like it when the show dives into some past happiness, childhood nostalgia with the boys. Cannot relate, at all, in this particular scenario. My mom cannot much stand professional wrestling, and my dad, far as I recall, was never hugely into it either. I think he MIGHT have had it on once or twice way back when, but never obsessively or consistently so. My brother and I missed that bug, so we never really watched wrestling growing up, nor now. I think the most you ever heard about any of it was back in elementary school. I mean, yes, you do like seeing the boys just experience and live again their few boyhood joys, I’m just unable to fully connect. I was also a wiseass when Dean asked Sam to not ruin one of the few nice things that their father ever did for them. My comment being, “A, that is a depressing statement in and of itself. B, I doubt Sam needs much help in this respect.” You also just get secondhand embarrassment when Dean wants to get the glove and his scene in the ring, making me note, “Dean, you are a grown ass man in your thirties, and nearer forty than thirty.” You were kinder about it which was nice to see. Not long before the case starts, complete with you and I both having a, “And that’s Carol.” comment. They did reasonably well with not making it obvious who the villain was; a solid suspect pool. Ultimately revealing the demon’s behind it all. Mad respect for the one guy rejecting the Faustian bargain. It gets you a bit how Dean gets through to his old childhood idol, and the guy comes through at the end before the hellhounds get him. All serving as a good parallel to Castiel; the thing of a man who doesn’t want to be helped and needs help all the same. Shown well when Dean affirms that Castiel does want to be helped, whilst adding the caveat that Castiel doesn’t know that yet. And the ending with the positivity, your reaction to that was lovely. Bringing us to Lucifer having his Glengarry Tommy Lee Jones sales pitch/commands to seek out a Hand of God. Crowley continues to be put through it, and we share the unpleasant feelings when seeing it. As you say, Crowley may not be the evilest evil that could have eviled, but we do love the crafty sort that he is. And it’s good to see the one demon provide him the opportunity to escape. Love seeing him in the suit again. Particularly liked the touch of him checking his watch with some degree of pride. A man needs a good watch, so I rather liked that little, small bit. Unsurprisingly, Crowley was led into a trap. A trickery test of a trap, you might say. Next move, spring the trap. Love how we both clocked Crowley would be a few steps ahead with the Rod of Aaron. Shame the one demon took the bullet, so to speak, though Crowley does give a good demonstration for what happens to traitors. And he got old Lucy hot under the collar by making him bleed his own blood, which made me say, “Yeah, sucks for you, White Goodman.” Shame the Hands of God only seem to have one shot, but it’s ok as Crowley gives Lucy the slip. Now to the nostalgia part that you shared. You had the rather joyful reaction at the beginning, and I was wondering, “Wh- what am I missing here?” You then clarify that it’s joy over seeing Mike the Miz, who I confess that I don’t know who that is. You then explain about the shows, and how you admitted some viewers wouldn’t know what you’re talking about. That was me, because I was saying past a point, “Yeah, I don’t understand a word you’re saying here, Jess.” paused, and then looked up the names, then listened to you explain more. The reality tv bug, that also I seem to have largely missed. You say The Challenge is one you quite love, and that it is one you still watch to this day to help you decompress, ok, then I am very happy for you that the episode provided to you the most appreciated childhood nostalgia. I may not be able to share it with you, but I’m happy you got that, Jess. And it was nice to see in this fun reaction that was most enjoyable, thank you.
