"I owe it to my friend to try because I got her into this. So you see, I'm not going to let you stop me now!", The Doctor, "The Caves of Androzani" That is a really great episode cliffhanger line - wow, wow, wow! "The execution was a hoax. The General is obtuse, but he is a loyal Government servant. He would not have deceived me unless ... unless his orders came from a higher authority.", Morgus (aside), "The Caves of Androzani" This theatrical Shakespearian soliloquy mode of Morgus is weird - and unnerving. Talking directly to sesskasays??? You really shouldn't be able to do this on TV ... but it works for me. "Oh, and Krau Timmin? Have the lift maintenance engineer shot.", Morgus, "The Caves of Androzani" Wow, what a piece of garbage Morgus is! I hope has a really nasty death. ... ... ... Yeah! "Who is this foul slanderer?", "Me.", Morgus and Timmin, "The Caves of Androzani" Where have we seen this delicious style of executive betrayal before? - my mind goes to Goddard in "Dalek" - "Henry van Statten will be a homeless, brainless junkie living on the streets of San Diego, Seattle, Sacramento. Some place beginning with S." "What was it you always told me, Doctor? Brave heart? You'll survive, Doctor.", Tegan, "The Caves of Androzani" As I quoted every time the Doctor said it, it only seems right that I highlight the quote again when Tegan says it back to the Doctor. We love those companion callbacks in the final scene. And of course, we note that scene in "The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot" which mirrors this one. "What's happened?", "Change, my dear. And it seems not a moment too soon.", Peri and the Sixth Doctor, "The Caves of Androzani" Among all the immediate regeneration changes that we've seen so far in Classic and New Who, this line seems to demonstrate your regeneration-as-reaction-to-previous-Doctor concept most closely - or at least this is the line that I recall when you mention it. "Too late, Peri. Going soon. Time to say goodbye.", The Doctor, "The Caves of Androzani" Peter Davison has been fantastic in the role. And also his legacy with his post-role work with episode commentaries / conventions / audio stories / "The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot" etc. - just great! The 5th Doctor is ranked in my top three Doctors - although my exact three differs from yours.
