As you say, will this episode top last week’s episode? Impossible. Am I shocked? Not really, know. Quite the stress filled episode to be sure. Simple, yet well executed, as you describe. We open with a Sam down, and you say “probably” very pissed off Dean. I would say “certainly”, that’s not a question. Leads to that Corbin fucker getting on your shit list pretty goddamn quick. Frankly, I’m inclined to agree. You, Dean, and I all had that, “What did you just fucking say!?” response to when the guy insisted on leaving Sam for dead. Anger being the primary emotion felt there, yes. More so when the guy tries to choke the life out of Sam. The look in your eyes said it all, Jess. The guy’s fuckity duckity, like you said. Yes, in terms of medical abilities, clearly Dean pales in comparison to another beloved Winchester of television. A beloved Winchester who’d have had Sam back on his feet in two seconds if he was on this show. As it is, Sam was only mostly dead. If he was all dead, the only thing to do would have been go through his clothes and look for loose change. Massive props to Sam for getting back up and taking out the ringleaders of the group. I would have said, “You should have gone for the head.” as I was dealing fatal blows. They do an effective job with Sam and Dean having a rather warped Romeo and Juliet homage. Said homage was bittersweet and painful to watch as I had Olivia Hussey on my mind. We’re not yet a month since Olivia’s death, and she was the best Juliet in terms of cinematic adaptations. So, the homage made me cry a bit in that respect. We both made comments about Dean spilling the beverage he chugged to get the pills down. Considering that there’s four seasons after this, I would say the idea of this being the end for either Sam or Dean to be quite dubious. Billie certainly was in favor of taking Dean, shame she decided to be a bit of a Bond villain, thus allowing the doctor to do the Pulp Fiction thing. I KNEW you would NOT appreciate that, though I did also note it was quick, so there is that small favor. I don’t know what power trip the cop was on, but that was some stupidity on cuffing Dean again and telling the doctor to sedate a man who just nearly overdosed. Love how the doctor even points out that that’s a stupid thing to do. Shame that the doctor gets killed shortly after seeing the one fucker’s new acrylics. The cop getting killed, I’m less upset about. Sam gets massive respect for how he gets to the hospital without crashing and then kills Corbin. Feel bad for the lady who married a complete fucking douchebag. Said lady, who I also am not retaining a name, yeah, she was great, and your heart just breaks for her. You raise the excellent point how Dean’s sense of normal is not the same as the lady’s, and as she says, there really is no normal after this. She gets us pretty good in that last scene. Distracting as all hell that both the boys are out of the hospital as fast as they are, but whatever. One other small note. In the opening scenes, I got distracted by the lady’s question about the full moon. If I were Dean, I would be too much of a nerd, as I’d respond to the lady’s inquiry. “Only really became a thing ninety years ago in the film Werewolf of London. Popularized by Curt Siodmak for the later Wolf Man films, though the first time Lon Chaney Jr played the role, the poem was specific about being the autumn moon, and subsequent films said, “the moon is full and bight” when a man becomes a wolf when the wolfsbane blooms.” Not sure if my peanut gallery comments would be helpful or not. Terrific reaction, Jess, thank you.
