For as terrible as this story is, and permanently crippled Colin's ability to win over the fans while still on the show, its existence did have one big positive when he repurposed his most notorious line against all the asshole whining about Jodie Whittaker. "She is the Doctor, whether you like it or not."

Rob Walters

Your summation is absolutely correct, Colin definitely keeps this story afloat with his portrayal of the Doctor's unstable post-regenerative state. Thankfully, that does dissipate and the base characteristics of the Doctor are all evident in the next season, with the added delight of Six's sarcasm and hilarious one liners! Six is fantastic and I'm sure you will find him so as the stories progress.

Rob Walters

You find those that objected to Jodie Whittaker as the Doctor, arseholes? I take it then that you despise Peter Davison as he was one of the biggest dissenters of that decision....? What a very harsh judgement for the many fans who had similar feelings.

Oh, yeah, Valentine’s Day is on a Friday this year. Well, I don’t much do anything on the day, save for tying one on. Considering this story, the beer would help, but then again, we’re getting it a month early, so the good people of youtube get to look forward to the nice little date of Classic Who Friday on Valentine’s Day. As to these episodes. Now we come to the concluding half of our formal introduction to Albert DeSalvo. Pardon me, er, uh, the Scranton Strangler. Er, I mean, uh, the Sixth Doctor, that’s it. Rather a shame that Peri or anybody else never yelled, “It! Was! The! Dukes! It! Was! The! Dukes!” during the strangulation business, but now that’s blood under the bridge. Yes, we have a new Doctor, whether we like it or not. Largely simpatico with the feelings of this story being fairly jarring. Again, Six is last on my ranking of the Doctors. I reiterate that the opinion is nothing against Colin as he does a genuinely wonderful job in the role. The sass is glorious. A touch abrasive here, like you noted, to the point he does come across like an asshole. And even then, he had his moments that tickled your funny bone. For instance: He says that he’ll never understand the people of Earth, frankly, I’m inclined to concur with that sentiment. Then there’s the line that made you laugh about how self-pity is all the Doctor has left. Better than self-loathing, I’ll tell you that much. I do look forward to how your opinion evolves. Not the most spectacular story, like you said. I got distracted by how they talked about how beautiful a place that is Jaconda, and now the place looks like an arid and barren wasteland. Clearly Saruman needed the forest of Fangorn to fuel the fires of Isengard. Hugo continued to be a highlight. You say that Hugo would have made an interesting companion. Funny you should say that, considering Kevin returned to Doctor Who as the wonderfully badass Professor Eustacious Jericho. Of course, the characters are quite different, though either way, Kevin on this show is great. Kevin in anything is great. This feels like a good time to talk about a specific aspect of Peri. Namely, the American accent. I know it’s widely subject to ribbing, and the comments here on patreon confirm that. And Nicola has freely admitted that she feels it wasn’t too up to snuff. With this in mind, I’ve been lending a closer ear to her accent. Honestly, it’s not that bad, in my opinion. Whilst not the best fake American accent in anything, the effort is solid. Decent. A little wobbly at the vowel sounds. It helps that at first, it sounded like Nicola was aiming for a regional accent with more of a distinct sound, and here, it feels like she’s settling into something far more neutral like my own accent, which is what John Barrowman picked up, and has in Doctor Who and Torchwood. The kind of accent that Gary Oldman once described as “a flat, unimaginative thing.” ...Which it is. Nicola’s accent that’s used for Peri is decent. She DOES fall into the common trap of hitting the R sounds too hard. Not unlike Hugh Laurie in House, which combined with his slow and methodical line delivery in that show, the accent sounded SO incredibly fake and distracting as SHIT. Here, Nicola does a better job, if not perfect. So, to conclude, sure, I may have Six last, through no fault of Colin. I love it how you are willing to give Six the chance, and it may very well be, Jess, one of the greatest showcasings, both of your strengths as a reactor, and how far you’ve come with the Whoniverse. How even with a less than stellar introduction, you are willing to be patient and see how Six evolves, even if he may or may not have as much time for you to explore that as with Doctors past. And just how you really take the time to dive into characters, even unpopular ones. Makes your reactions really special, and truly exceptional. Thank you for the lovely reaction, Jess.

"Self-pity is all I have left.", "The Twin Dilemma" Fan polls in DWM over the years (most recently in 2014) have voted "The Twin Dilemma" the worst Doctor Who television story ever - that's quite a lot of abuse. I agree, it's not the best - I think there is probably too much strangling for me. And too many twins. "A matter of simple physics. ... The outer planets are smaller. Place them where Jaconda is, how long do you think they'll last?", The Doctor, "The Twin Dilemma" Ever since first watching this story, I have not understand this issue with planetary orbits. Gravity/mavity(?) doesn't work that way - perhaps I'm missing something. I'm not saying that this alone gets "The Twin Dilemma" my personal lowish rating - because you can't look past the twins performances. "You are clear to approach.", Jaconda Control, "The Twin Dilemma" The voice of Jaconda Control was played by Colin Baker and things like that really get me out of the story - "wait a minute, that's Colin!". They did it in "Inferno" as well with Jon Pertwee - although it was removed and appears as a deleted scene on the DVD set. "I'd rather stay. I think I could be some use here.", Hugo Lang, "The Twin Dilemma" You mentioned that Hugo could have made an interesting TARDIS companion. In fact he gives me "Steven Taylor" vibes. "Whatever else happens, I am the Doctor, whether you like it or not.", The Doctor, "The Twin Dilemma" This has been an intense introduction to the new Doctor.
