Setting aside the overwhelming emotions of the Foggy of it all last episode, yes, it was nice to see right out the gate that the brutality from the Netflix days is retained here, and that you are appreciative of that. It seems to be for you what my feelings are of how I’m grateful for Disney with their Star Wars projects that they’ve kept the Emperor and Darth Vader, and just the Sith and Empire in general, the unholy terror as they’ve always been. I like how you are also appreciative of Matt taking up Hector’s case, and how you like that it feels like the good old days, alas, though, the good old days are gone as Foggy is gone. We’re both hanging onto that one for a while. This is indeed not Matt’s first uphill legal battle, like you said. Just one thing, please Christ don’t have Matt deliver practically his goddamn closing argument when he’s supposed to be in the middle of direct examination like he did during the Punisher trial. Still absurdly outlandish that the judge didn’t call that out, asking when he was going to ask questions. I am liking, Jess, your growing interest and investment in Cherry. As I say my two favorites of the series are Kingpin and Vanessa, more on them momentarily. For my favorite following them this season, Cherry is in the running there. You spoke very well about how after losing Foggy and tossing Bullseye off the roof, Matt is struggling not to give in again. Shown too how he listens to the mass, but does not go in. Quick sidenote with that: The scene of Matt hearing the mass calls me out as I haven’t been to mass on a regular basis for over about seventeen years now. By calling me out, I mean that I recognize the spot of the mass, and the instinct to say what you’re supposed to say is there. Only thing is that they’ve changed what you’re supposed to say. It’s like the times I have been to church in recent years, when they say, “The Lord be with you.”, you still instinctively respond, “And also with you.”, even though that’s not the response you’re supposed to say anymore. I would also imagine that going to mass, at least in that church, isn’t the same for Matt since Bullseye killed Father Paul. I can understand that one. Gets a man misty eyed seeing how the scene of Matt listening to the mass got to you. Matt may be fighting a losing battle as shown by that brutal fight at the end, adored your reactions to that part, Jess. Given the angle how he landed on the floor, that one man won’t be going home. At least he won’t be walking home. Judging by his scream, I wager he didn’t hate doing what he did as much as he would have hoped, which, as the line goes, “Well, you don't have to tell me. Most murders are crimes of necessity rather than desire. But the great ones, Dahmer, Gacy, Bundy, they did it because it excited them.” Of course, he would not be soothed by that as clearly, tippying and tappying back into that old Devil was hell, which, well, it was bound to happen. The beast is the beast. Let it run free. I don’t know the song at the end, but it was fun to see you singing and dancing to it a little. My whole body just tightened when BB went to see Kingpin, you were on my mind, and I said, “Ooooh, FUCK.” Do appreciate the mention of Ben, and I anticipated approximately your words when Kingpin mentioned Ben. Trying to recall if Kingpin’s murder of Ben became public knowledge, more precisely, that Kingpin himself murdered Ben. If so, BB has nerves of steel facing down her uncle’s killer. I also felt simultaneous dread for her, and Kingpin’s simmering rage when she hit the Vanessa button. Now to talk about Kingpin. You spoke of how Kingpin is now mayor, hence it is no time to be an introvert. A primary reason why I don’t see myself ever getting into politics. My autism would likely not do me any favors either. I would share, however, the laugh that Kingpin has when being told most people hate him and that he’s used to that, as that laugh in response would be me as well. If nothing else, he’s realistic on that one. He did a good move with the hole. My brother I’m sure will have words on that scene. You observe how Kingpin is likely going to slip back in his old ways. Looks like he already has some with his scenes with the police commissioner. Thing is that he’s being far more circumspect than in years past, and he’s utilizing loopholes of never actually saying certain things, hence he has plausible deniability. Bringing us to Heather getting in the crosshairs, love your response to that. And we set the stage for the plotline that I am SO GODDAMN here for. Kingpin and Vanessa in therapy. Just that scene alone has me excited to see Vincent and Ayelet absolutely kill it. Boy though, did Ayelet get me good with her selling Vanessa’s feelings of being lonely when Kingpin was absent. And Lord, did Vincent destroy me with Kingpin’s simple line where he says that he does not want to lose his wife. I just was fighting back the sobbing, going, “Mmmmmm.” See, I’m so invested in their story, that I want love to prevail, even if they are the villains. It’s an odd new wrinkle of you already live for the villainy, being so invested in the romance is something I’m less familiar with, villainy-wise. I know that it probably can’t or won’t happen, but I just want Kingpin and Vanessa to patch things up, and that they can live happily. Zero idea what that says about my morality, feel free to judge all you want. Sure is going to be memorable sharing the rest of this with you, Jess. You spoke of the emotions you have, and just the thing of looking back over the last ten years, and how you’ve evolved. I did finally see your old reactions to Daredevil, and yes, the evolution has been astonishing and fantastic. You should be very proud of yourself, Jess. I know I’m proud of you. Thank you for the wonderful reaction.

I've seen a lot of people theorize this version of Fisk is on the spectrum with his stammering, lack of eye contact, and failure to pick up social cues. It's been really fascinating seeing Vincent show his learning to work past that after stepping into public while never quite beating it.

This variant of Kingpin is definitely on the spectrum, which is part of where the character speaks to me. I believe Vincent himself is on the spectrum as well. If nothing else it’s very much a nuanced and realistic portrayal and it is much appreciated. Shared appreciation of Vincent selling Kingpin learning to work past the stammering, lack of eye contact, and failure to pick up social cues after stepping into public office while never quite beating it.

The show immediately goes exactly where I was hoping it would ever since this story was teased in Echo, that even though Fisk managed to win the election, a ton of people still see him as a guy who'd fuck someone in the ass without even the goddamn common courtesy of a reach-around. And they're already doing an impressively believable job showing how he'd be able to get people on his side, dealing with things that absolutely everyone finds annoying. And I'm very excited that BB is being brought directly into the story like this, though I hope this crew remembers Fisk personally killed her uncle, because the way this scene is presented, I honestly can't tell if we're supposed to pick up any subtext. Maybe if he'd gotten to the part of the movie with the sniper, he'd learn not to underestimate the kind of damage a teenage girl can do. But I'm digging most of all the stuff with Commissioner Gallo. Michael Gaston is one of those always dependable character actors we have too few of these days, and he's already relishing getting to talk back to Fisk on a level no one else can. And killer fakeout where it seems like Fisk is threatening his family, but it turns out he's learned to be more subtle than that and is just threatening to expose his affair and love child (also something Gallo can't avoid by putting them in some safehouse). I knew literally nothing about White Tiger going into this, and I already had a big sigh of relief that he's not a white person, because the name already brings up some unfortunate associations for anyone who's seen Peacemaker. And while there's some unavoidable awkwardness in seeing a supernatural hero being discussed by lawyers in total seriousness after She-Hulk played this exact material for laughs a bunch of times, they just barely stay on the right side of the line with the gray area of how his fighting people just as himself should be a different legal matter than when he has the suit on. Just like Ray Stevenson, Kamar de los Reyes looks to have capped his too short career with a real winner here, and I'm already eager for us inevitably getting to see him at full Tiger power. All leading up to that perfect ending where Matt gets to reveal his true secret: he's always angry. Charlie has shared that they shot alternate less violent versions of several fights they were worried Disney wouldn't let them use, but they ended up getting the preferred version in every time. And I of course had a big Rick Dalton moment at the Punisher tattoo, which I doubt Frank is going to be very approving of. From my vague understanding of how Matt's perception works, he wouldn't have been able to see it, but they definitely put it in for this exact reason, which is especially great after Disney was notoriously lax in making any kind of statement against real life corrupt cops using his logo. I had my doubts after the first episode, but now I'm fully on board for the rest of this ride.

Always love the story of Kubrick asking, “What the hell’s a reach-around?”, and when R. Lee Ermey explained, how Kubrick had a response of, “Oh. We’re doing another take. Keep that line in, ya sick motherfucker.” Yes, it is a good realistic touch how a lot of people recall how Kingpin is who he is. And he is proving a crafty sort with how he’s winning the public over. Again, curious what my brother would say about the hole business. He already agrees with how unbelievable the whole Crane Dad business was in the Andrew Spidey films; namely he’s mentioned how cranes like that are on some pretty strict schedules, and it would be nigh impossible to set up what Crane Dad set up without getting every union possible on your ass for pulling such a stunt. The scene with BB, it is feeling like the writers do remember about Ben being killed at the hands of Kingpin. My question is does BB know, or at least does she know that Kingpin directly murdered Ben. I presume we’ll get more of that. Kingpin does seem like although he did not live to deal with that sniper, he is not going to be underestimating BB. Though I’d imagine he’d pound back a tall glass of sugar water for energy before he does anything on that front. Michael Gaston is an always dependable character actor. A breed of actor that is sadly dwindling in numbers as the years go by. Shared liking how Kingpin has gotten more subtle with the threats, and how said threats are harder to combat against. I know Jess is waiting for when he could slip and get more overt with the threats and villainy by yelling to his enemies, “You don’t matter! In fact, if Thanos comes back, you probably won’t even BE matter.” White Tiger, I too am unfamiliar with, and I don’t know the Peacemaker connection. This and She-Hulk are feeling like continuations/payoff from The Incredibles with the Supers getting banned due to the lawsuits. The great thing is how the tones of the respective shows are proof how you can work with the topic in several different ways. Kamar de los Reyes is set to make one hell of a last bow from the looks of it, just as Ray had as Baylan. Incidentally, Ray being a former Punisher, tying nicely into the next topic. Shared Rick Dalton moment with the tattoo. Noticed the expression that Jess had, so she noticed. Since she didn’t bring it up later, I’m holding off on talking about it too much. I will say that yeah, it is a big message about the statement against real life corrupt cops using his logo, that I also know that the Punisher himself would loathe these cops using it. Did not hear about the PG alternate versions of the scene. Love how the final scene reinforces that the brutality will be kept. It’s like seeing Darth Vader in Disney. That and the fight scenes here are like Disney having a J. Jonah Jameson tea kettle cackle in response to the idea of watering shit down, I love it. As I said, Kingpin and Vanessa are the biggest draws for me, so I was already in, even with losing Foggy. This episode is certainly increasing the excitement.

It's also been confirmed that Kamar finished filming all his scenes, and if his story continues into Season 2 I hope they've learned from Baylan and Thunderbolt Ross that you can just recast the role and the sun will still come up in the morning.
