That’s a shame to hear that you got up earlier, and you were all set to say, “I’m going to get my work done early, then sit outside, enjoy a nice margarita in the pleasant weather, hang out with Rocco whilst he is laying in the sun.”, to which the technical problems, as you said, replied, “The fuck you are!” Hope you still had some time for what you were wanting to do, Jess. Interesting you should say what you said about the weather as it’s presently dreary where I am. The sky’s having a day. Now to the episode. We continue to be killing it with this show. The enjoyment is shared. Plenty to say this week. Hits you the scene with Hector’s niece. Yes, that little lady pulled out the acting chops. Interesting how the one cop seems to be innocent of that one. Figured you’d get a strong response from the scene with Leroy. You spoke well how the scenes, he has the apathy, and later just vents how the system chews him up and spits him out. And how some of it highlights the problems with the system that Matt can’t easily combat, regardless of identity. Love how you briefly recalled what happened with Ray. Seeing your reaction to all of Ray’s plotline, I don’t blame you for holding onto that one. Bringing us to one of the biggest talking points of the episode: The Punisher. It was announced at some point that Jon would be appearing in this. How widely circulated said announcement was, that I can’t speak to. I did catch the announcement; hence I knew he would appear. Made sure to not speak of it, especially after last week. Got annoyed that the game was given away by his name being in the credits. Answering the one question, by the way, this is the first time Jon is listed in the credits. I called that he’d have the and credit after the last few episodes, there was no and credit following Ayelet having the with credit and Vincent now has second billing. On the other hand, you say you weren’t terribly surprised, and your little gasp seeing Jon’s name in the credits was sweet. And you ultimately had a great reaction to when he arrived. Charlie and Jon did work as excellent as their big Penny and Dime scene from years ago that you highlighted. The Punisher is looking quite unhinged, as you said, suggesting that (presumably) the five years spent between the Snap and the Blip were not kind to him. Though if nothing else, he can still take comfort in the fact that he and Madani ruined Jigsaw’s chance for a happy ending. Hell of a thing, wasn’t it? Jigsaw thought he could be John Wayne walking off into the sunset with Grace Kelly, and thanks to the Punisher and Madani, more so Madani, that happy ending went flying out the window. Love how the show doesn’t treat Punisher verifying he has nothing to do with what happened to Hector as any sort of surprise. You note Matt knew that. I think it’s the lawyer in him that makes him ask to remove all doubt. I also just love it how they still never explicitly spell out how Punisher figured out or at least confirmed his suspicions about Matt being Daredevil during his trial. That moment when the Punisher was on the stand, and Matt asked if he could call Punisher Frank. That’s when he knew. For sure. Great stuff. The emotions really kick in when they bring up Foggy. Punisher talks about the guilt that he can see and smell Matt having. Made infinitely worse by said guilt being very much the Catholic guilt. That shit just fucking hangs around your neck like ten goddamn millstones and poisons the heart and soul, believe me. Snapped some at Matt, saying, “Matt, you don’t go and slap somebody and then apologize, get some backbone!” It is cathartic for Matt in that it feels like Punisher forces Matt to vent for the first time since Foggy’s death. Like Matt said, Foggy was kind, he was good. Bad men like Matt, Punisher, or Kingpin, they’ll never get close to that. Your reaction was everything I knew it would be. You said you were sorry for the crying, I sounded like the Punisher, half yelling, “What are you sorry for!? You don’t need to fucking apologize for that shit, Jess!!” Matt’s fighting the losing battle with letting Daredevil out.

Loving how Daniel got the time in the spotlight. Your one crack about the clubbing: I didn’t do that clubbing shit even when I was younger. I’m nearly thirty-four, and I have no desire to start with the clubbing scene. You do feel bad for him how he fucks up by slipping with BB. You spoke very well how Kingpin senses the genuine loyalty, and how he’s going to try to cultivate it, much though Daniel won’t be the next Wesley who was ride or die. Props to Daniel for having the cojones for admitting fault and making it clear that he did not expect forgiveness, nor was he expecting the second chance. Coming to Kingpin. It continues to be interesting seeing him trying to stay in the straight and narrow, whilst bristling by not being able to get shit done as much as he might ideally like. In addition to having to put up with the singing. He is me with that one. Kingpin having the moment with the Charles Foster Kane looking clapping, followed by cutting the kids short was a great laugh moment. Likewise, a huge laugh when he sports the look of a man who really badly needs a tall glass of sugar water upon having to endure round two of the singing. Then there was his therapy session with Vanessa. Kingpin and Vanessa, my sympathy and empathy toward them is perfectly balanced, as all things should be. It’s interesting how Kingpin is serious about the therapy and making the greater effort to contain his darker impulses during the session. He also didn’t seem to take much if any offense when Heather asked to speak with Vanessa alone and later noting that Heather’s question is a prudent one. Christ did Ayelet get me bad when Vanessa spoke of her own troubled relationship with her father, and Vincent sold well Kingpin’s silent response to that. She also got me when saying how she does not fear harm from Kingpin. The two of them are destroying all my emotions with this plotline, and this episode, their conversation did a big number on me. The pain is exquisite. I hope it’ll last. Nice that Kingpin kept Rabbit in a Snowstorm. We all knew that Adam was going to be put through some shit. I’m defensive of Kingpin in the matter of he did promise Vanessa that he would not kill Adam, and he is keeping that promise. Not imprisoning him or otherwise harming him was not part of any negotiations nor agreement, so he’s kept his word. Besides which, like I said in the Echo reactions: Kingpin is a killer. A murdering bastard, we all know that. And there are consequences to breaking the heart of a murdering bastard. Adam is now experiencing them. Leading us all to note: Is his reaction really THAT surprising? I suspect Adam’s hands are not long for this world. I got jealous of the meal that Kingpin had in his last scene which looked delicious. A bit over cluttered for my taste, but it looked excellent. Contrast to his customary breakfast with the omelette that people called out as looking flavorless and bland accompanied by the sole asparagus that you questioned. Which my thought on the breakfast being I believe that’s Kingpin’s autism showing strongly, which I heavily feel and relate to, but maybe that’s just me. We are ready for what’s to come with that. Though we also have the matter of this new masked individual, knew you’d look away at the one part with that. As to the lawnmower. I thought that was a lawn mower I was hearing. Took a second to ascertain, and even then, well, it happens, Jess. No problem. Reminds me that I got to make sure I’m set for lawn mowing season myself. Sounds like people in your neighborhood get to that early in the morning when it’s nice out. I wait till the late afternoon/early evening myself; my bones appreciate it as the years go by. The ice-cold beer helps too. One last note for the episode, the Newton Brothers are killing it with the organ music, and I am here. For. That. A terrific reaction, Jess. Now comes the concern of timing for next week as I’ll be on an out of state trip, though I should still be able to see the new episodes, albeit perhaps later than normal. Your reactions, I might be behind on, but I’ll catch them when I can. Regardless of how it plays out, I just know that we’ll have further great stuff on the horizon. And again, thank you, Jess, for the wonderful reaction. Really do hope you got in a margarita. Take care.

An episode with concerns about Fisk abusing his wife, plus the inherent violence that comes from Frank Castle's presence. Just imagine how awkward it would be if the very same day it was released, a tape got leaked where an MCU star directly confesses to strangling his girlfriend like he'd been denying for years. One of this episode's writers is an actual lawyer, who I imagine handled the whole Bradford story. I got a bit lost in some of the legalese, but luckily that's not really very important and the real point is showing how the system chews up guys like this, which comes through loud and clear. I also love how Bradford isn't written as some flawless victim, and is laying out constant blind jokes from the moment he sees Matt. Always a more powerful message that even guys like this deserve a better shot than they get. And I'll just say it, Matt has way more chemistry with that prosecutor than the shrink lady whose name I've already forgotten. I was expecting more fallout from Hector's death than we got, with both Matt's own guilt about it and conspiracy theories about Fisk being behind it, which adds to my suspicion that this was all thrown together in a hurry after Kamar's passing. But what we do get is still very worthwhile, including the most relatable moment Fisk will likely ever have, wishing he was anywhere other than having off key amateur renditions of We Built This City warbled at him, only to have it start all over again. Truly a level of Hell that Dante never imagined. And very well done copying the Citizen Kane applause shot. I'm newly in the dark at where Daniel's story could be going, and you know it has to hurt that a Urich finally got one over on him good. And now for the moment that has every reviewer wondering, is something still a spoiler if Disney+ puts it in the thumbnail? Seriously Disney, what the fuck? But I was quickly able to forget about that, as it immediately becomes clear how much Charlie and Jon still love working together, and these characters can bring things out of each other that no one else can. I died a little when Frank brought up Foggy, and you know it's just going to get more emotionally intense from here. I also have to note this is one of the few things we know for sure was part of the new team's reshoots, as Bernthal has revealed he was totally unimpressed with the original scripts and declined to come back, until he got these new scenes. And that affection for him going all the way back to The Walking Dead is easily the high point of this reaction; I'm just sorry it came along with so much pain and is probably going to lead to a lot more before it gets better.

Also keeping Miss Scarlet's blood on Rabbit in a Snowstorm. That would probably just be seen as increasing its value, like that painting Banksey tried to shred. I assume the new masked guy is from the comics somewhere, but knowing nothing about that, I'm just left thinking "I'm so in the weeds with this guy. Is he from like a local commercial?" But the show has easily earned enough goodwill that I'm willing to wait for an explanation.

The cop's really starting to remind me of Fisk's dad inexplicably being fully confident across a whole season that he could kick Jack Reacher's ass. Though apparently all that stuff is taken from Lee Child's own life. There wasn't much about Season 2 of The Punisher that worked for me, but the end of Jigsaw's story very much did. Especially the ambiguity of whether Frank is coldly rejecting Jigsaw's apology or putting him out of his misery after he's suffered enough.

Thomas Corp

Haven’t seen Reacher, though my brother says it’s good. I’ll take your word on the comparison. The question of did Punisher coldly reject Jigsaw’s apology or was he putting him out of his misery after he’s suffered enough, I’d say probably both, though they leave that nicely vague.

Thomas Corp

Some of Kingpin’s blood as well following the one big fight as I recall, in addition to the bloodstain left by Miss Scarlet. Would probably alter the price of the piece. Without getting into specifics, from what I understand, the masked individual at the end is relatively new to the mythos. I’ve never seen said masked individual before, so shared feelings on playing the waiting game.

Heard about the tape leaking, though I didn’t pull it up, nor listen to it. Rather interesting state of affairs when you have more faith in Kingpin not harming Vanessa. Well, not physically, anyway. It is feeling more authentic with the legalese of it all. Maybe not to My Cousin Vinny level, but it has sounded better than it has in the past. One is lost on some of the more precise intricacies, though yeah, even for a layman, you can follow easy enough. Just with the two scenes, Leroy does make a hell of an impression and shows the good message of even guys like this deserve a better shot than they get, like you said. The name of Miss Freud (No, wait, not her. She worked for Kingpin in Hawkeye.) is Heather. It does stick in my memory as she is from the comics. Fair enough that you’re not retaining her name any more than I can ever remember the Christopher Eccleston Dark Elf villain from Dark World’s name, nor the complete waste of skin character from the last season of That 70’s Show. Assuming we’re not building to further focus on any hypothetical fallout about Hector in the episodes to come, yes, I would agree that maybe what we got here is an unfortunate side effect of Kamar’s death. See if we return to the plotline. Kingpin has MANY relatable moments. Probably more than should be healthy. The one in this episode is near the top of that list. I outright said, “This is my Hell.” See we both caught the Citizen Kane homage. Damned impressive how they got that as spot on as they did. Daniel has my attention, and I did hear everyone noting Kingpin’s fury of yet another Urich getting the best of him. The thumbnail business, I was out of the house when this dropped. Got home, went straight to Disney+, and yeah, they just had the spoilery image, ruining the Punisher’s appearance this week. I was expecting he wouldn’t appear until next week, or if he was in this week’s episode, it would have been the very last scene like how they drop the bombshell about Kingpin in the penultimate episode of Hawkeye. Plus, like Jess said, even if one did not know that Jon was going to be in this, you are anticipating it after the last episode, so it ends up not the biggest frustration, though it is very frustrating. The concern is irrelevant when the work is that good. Shared thing of dying a little when Punisher brings up Foggy. I had the same thought of this being part of the creative overhaul as I did hear that Jon refused to be in this initially, then agreed to return when said creative overhaul happened. And I heard that like the diner scene where Vincent and Charlie spent time working on the dialogue, Jon likewise had input here. Shane is a standout villain in The Walking Dead. I also really liked Jon in The Wolf of Wall Street, especially that one part where he breaks character, yet stays in character enough to save the take which is left in. That realistic feeling of a guy is pissing you off, yet they let out a line that’s honestly hilarious that it catches you off guard like how it did for Jon when filming that scene. We are all anticipating and are here for the pain. My own primary focus being on the Kingpin and Vanessa of it all. How it plays out, that has yet to be determined. Either way, we ought to have a lot of fun.

Supposedly he asked the woman playing the waitress to serve his cheeseburger last, because he wanted one more annoying thing to work with, and then was actually surprised by the ketchup bottle being empty and just worked with it on the spot.
