Again, given the statement made, this reaction is up sooner than I expected, so problematic and stressful though it undoubtedly has been, I’d take the victory in that, Jess. This episode was a good one, and nice to see that you adored it. Interesting thought exercise that Heather poses to Matt, and as you note, how said thought exercise applies to Kingpin as well. Gets you right in the heart seeing that Matt still prays. All the shit he’s gone through, there’s a victory in that. Nice that you liked that part as well. See that the flashbacks allow us to put Elden and Deborah’s names in the credits. Horrific start with the Muse (Or was it What’s his fuck?) of it all. Says something when even Kingpin seems more than a little unsettled by Muse’s actions. Leads to him having the salient point that you acknowledged, though now he’s got the rabid cops in his control now. Kingpin is also dealing with Luca. We both had somewhat of a shared look when Luca spoke with such discourtesy to Kingpin. Clearly, he didn’t hear about what happened to Leland. Also, he called Kingpin an “old man”, and I snapped, “Sorry “old man”!? He’s a year younger than my mother, you ASSHOLE!!” That is if his age is consistent with Vincent’s as he is a year younger than my mom; a few days late to be exactly one year younger. And he was born less than a year after my dad was. He also has problems with people he needs money from, for instance, Jack. Speaking of, like Yusuf, word came to my attention that Jack would be in this, and I yelled, “THAT idiot!? HE’S coming back!?” I will say that he felt like he had more Lalo energy when dealing with Kingpin. Loved your own instant realization that he’d show up, which also makes me hope that the show doesn’t treat the one upcoming development as a huge shock. Vanessa got some great time with Kingpin this week. I, and I’m sure Kingpin felt the same way, thought she looked stunning in that one dress. A beautiful, most beautiful shade of green. Whilst you do admire Angela’s chutzpah, you hate to see her in the sticky situation. We had the shared response of hating the needles. You speak of the fainting that tells me that miraculous though it sounds, your aversion to needles is stronger than my own, and that’s coming from someone who had to receive nightly shots for six and a half years straight. Bringing us to the big talking point. We have now reached a point where Daredevil and Kingpin both, they’re not talking about turning the other cheek anymore, they’re talking about putting a brick through the other guy’s windshield. They’re talking about taking it out and chopping it up. No apologies necessary for the cackling when Matt says, “Fuck it.”, and decides to suit up. Artists doth have a hard time of things in this episode, like you said. Talking about the Kingpin side of it first. You posed the question of would Adam lose his hands. That was my assessment as well. It then becomes one of the most surprising things for both of us that Adam still has his hands. That was a hell of a thing seeing Vincent kill it with his performance of Kingpin just letting the beast run free. Then there is Daredevil’s fight with Muse, which was likewise striking seeing Charlie sell how Daredevil is let loose. Sucks that Muse got away, but Daredevil saved Angela, and it deliberately parallels Foggy’s death, and you see how much that affects Daredevil. Again, great episode, with an equally great reaction, Jess, thank you.

Fisk is finding out more and more how much there is to being a mayor that wasn't taught in business class. There's the long term costs such as waste disposal. I don't know if you're familiar with who runs that business, but I assure you it's not the Boy Scouts. And it's becoming more and more like watching John Ritter in Problem Child, just looking forward to the moment he finally snaps. And in the meantime, all these indignities wash across Vincent's face in a beautiful way so we don't really mind the wait. Of course, it also helps to get more of the Swordsman, which combined with Yusef last week is quite a refreshing change from how the Netflix shows all seemed to be embarrassed to be connected to the rest of the MCU most of the time. Also loving the final confirmation that the show really is going all in on the ACAB story. And it's a good thing that all comes off so well, because I wasn't really feeling Matt's story for most of this. I want to think it's more of them having to rush this story together after Kamar's death, because his insistence on letting the police handle the murder they committed themselves is horribly naive in a way that feels quite out of character. And speaking of, is Shrink Girlfriend whose name I still can't retain supposed to be stupid? Because if so, that could work for me (I still get a real kick out of everything involving the New Republic, after all), but it needs to be more clear. Right now I'm just stuck with her thinking it would be a great idea to interview Frank Castle, and on top of the more obvious reasons that's a terrible idea, he doesn't even wear a mask and his identity is public knowledge, so what would he be able to add? Luckily, the actual moment this is all building to comes off great, and fully worth the wait of seeing him get back in the suit. I just wish it could have been against someone who deserved the moment. I have to assume Muse in the comics is some kind of really awesome character to merit being put in the show as the guy who gets Matt out of retirement, but darn if I can see what that is from what we've been given. He's basically just a dragon: no lines and no personality, just a big dumb brute for the hero to fight, and that kind of character has its place but it's not this. It's also really weird that he gets away, because I'm really racking my brain for what else they can do with him. He actually has much more potential for adding to Fisk's story rather than Matt's at this point, and even that has nothing to do with him personally. There's still plenty good about the show that I have faith the last three episodes can pull it back up, though.

Well, he's three years younger than my mother, who's still working out with me every week. It's the same reason I recommended against a Substance reaction, and whatever you're thinking, it's worse. More than Requiem for a Dream.

Has been interesting how Kingpin discovers with the mayoral business, namely things like the waste disposal branch of things, that he is out of his depth, and probably should go attend classes with Rodney Dangerfield to learn more about how to get the work done. Vincent continues to be excellent at the facial acting like he was in Full Metal Jacket and Men in Black. The fuse of when he finally snaps is a damn good slow burn. It is nice about the greater connective tissue to the wider MCU, especially after the whole horseshit writing of referring to the chitauri invasion as simply “The Incident” all throughout season one. And it is intriguing how they are committed to diving headfirst into the police plotline. Matt does feel naive, I suppose. Probably does speak more of the guilt gnawing at him of how much he wants to be Daredevil again, so he’s deflecting, even if it makes no sense. Concerning Heather, yeah, hard to call her desire to interview the Punisher for a book the smartest decision in the world. The New Republic logic could work here. It’s like how we’ve spent the last twenty-six years basically working with the idea that the Jedi Council of the Prequel era, if not outright stupid, they certainly strayed from the purer path. An idea that Filoni certainly ran with. The idea that Heather may not be as smart as she thinks she is, it could work. You say that you would like more clarity if that’s intended, I feel ya there, as that happens to me sometimes with characters, where I ask, “Am I meant to find this character insufferable, or do I just personally happen to not like this character?”. The fight with Muse is a standout moment. Again, I am aware that Muse is in the comics. I’ve never seen him prior to this show. I’m told he has greater connection to the Inhumans of all people. I have heard of a casting note about Muse. I’ve been holding off on a specific reference alluding to that, as one, haven’t found a spot to crowbar it in yet, two, the reference alone will give away who is (presumably) behind the mask in these last few episodes. The character feels definitely the motivating factor that will further tie Kingpin and Daredevil’s plotlines together again. Curious how he’s going to Kingpin’s story as that does sound the more interesting possibility. We’ll see how it goes.
