As Terrance Dicks once said in an interview, "The main purpose of the companion was to scream, try to run away, get captured and then get rescued by the Doctor . . . But we can't get away with that any more!" It's a trope that did become extremely predictable! Ah, Paul is doing his Richard the Third again. How lovely. "Myself to be a marvelous proper man.
