I have waited a LONG time for this season. I too avoided the trailers for this season, though a few images came my way. Share your thing of avoiding the trailers. Star Wars I tend to make an exception for as I catch them to ascertain tone of the show. This season, we established the tone last season, so I skipped seeing the trailers so I could go in fresh as possible. Did hear that this is going to lead into Rogue One, the Star Wars film that is to you what Return of the Jedi is for me. You, me, my brother, we are all so, so excited for this show to be back. Good start with the TIE Avenger, which is one beauty of a ship. Adored your reaction to Cassian’s talk with the nice lady. Hilarious to hear that you feel represented here on this day when Cassian pilots the TIE Avenger in the same manner as you piloting any ship in any video game. I relate too in that the snow speeders proved a challenge; the harpoon and tow cable was always tricky to work with whilst flying in the circle. Man does Cassian end up in a tight spot. We both are on the similar page with this group of rebels as we cannot sanction their buffoonery. To their defense, they have been stranded for some time, and they are a few screws loose. Even then, you don’t go straight to fifteen blasters aimed at a man with threats of death. You start by asking if Cassian mightn’t happen to have a piece of cheese about him, then work your way up to the fifteen blasters. Saw is right about those of the rebellion that are lost. Not good when the Empire puts in the work. “Tyranny requires constant effort” as they say. You said it right. Rebellion takes some work too. The Ferrix group is still a delight. You mentioned how the planet looked like Lothal. I would hope that the planet doesn’t look like Lothal as given the timeline, I think Darth Vader is presently having a time there. Love your concern for Bix, and it is nice that the show did not forget about her trauma. Horrible for her, narratively satisfying for us. Good to see our bro, Brasso again. Ah, is it terrific to get Genevieve back again as Mon Mothma with her fabulous wardrobe. As I concurred on youtube, we’re simpatico on loving her looks, she had a gorgeous one in this episode. Luthen and Kleya have the great energy in handling the lack of word from Cassian. Loved how Kleya said since there wasn’t much to do, might as well tie one on. The back-and-forth between her and Vel remains a delight. You wisely observe that Tay seems like he’s not good, and that could be trouble. Rather figured you’d like the scene with Leida. We both had a comment when Leida called her betrothed a child. You said, “Well, to be fair, he kind of is.”, I said, “Yeah, and so are you, little missy. You’re not even eighteen.” You got me a little, your reaction to that scene. Love your words later. Bringing us to the topic of kings. Yours, of course, being our dear C-3PO. My own, as you are well aware, being the Emperor himself. My brother, well, he doesn’t use the term “my king”, and even if he did, he’d probably say that George Costanza would fit the bill. In Star Wars, it was the tie between Wedge and Baron Soontir Fel. Since the release of Rogue One, it is now Director Krennic. He is MOST excited that we have Ben Mendelsohn appearing as Krennic in this show. I LOVED your gasp and the look on your face upon seeing old Orson. Love how you were unaware of Krennic being in this, though as you note, it’s not surprising. Me and my brother, we had heard, I thought much as you did, it seemed possible. My brother squealed in joy. And already, Ben sells how good he is. One scene back, and you remember what made Krennic such a great villain. Loved the horror you felt at how he is the mid-level manager of the matter of the Ghormans. With it, there is vivid relation to the travel log film that they show. that exact feel of having to watch those videos at work, it’s uncanny. It is sure to be memorable with Partagaz, and especially with our dear Dedra in the mix. You hate how Dedra is so damn good at her job. It does present a moral conundrum, I grant you that one. Undoubtedly, Grand Moff Tarkin will be supervising this matter of the Ghormans, and I’m certain that he has his own particular strategies for the situation. Whatever is necessary to aid in the Emperor’s goal of getting his hands on the stable unlimited power to go with his UN-LI-MI-TED POWAAAHHH (Ahem, sorry, that just slipped out.) that he already possesses. So, a fantastic first episode back. Now to play the week long waiting game for the second episode of, wait, what? They dropped the first three episodes at once, and are going to do the same for the next three weeks because streaming has turned everyone impatient as shit? ...Oh. I know the three episodes a week thing is going to be trying. We shall be patient with the reactions. If it takes some time, fine. One episode reacted to, and it’s already beyond amazing, proving that if there are delays, the reactions will be more than worth the wait. Thank you for the fantastic first reaction back with Andor, Jess.

Season 1 of this show immediately became my choice for the greatest thing Star Wars has ever done (and that includes the Holiday Special). I did my best to temper my expectations that this could live up to it, since what we're actually seeing here is a severely compromised version of what Tony Gilroy wanted, due to some very unfortunate and unavoidable reality. He'd intended the show to be five seasons, each covering a year leading up to Rogue One, but then the first took so long to make while adhering to the level of quality and attention to detail he wanted that it became clear there was no way in hell to keep going that way. So rather than compromise that quality, he elected to cram the entire rest of his plan into this final season, with each batch of three episodes representing an entire intended season, ground down to the absolute core of what's necessary to make the story comprehensible. And as it turns out, that still makes for a pretty great time. Certainly way better than how The Flux turned out. One thing I wasn't expecting at all is that this is by far the funniest episode the show's ever done, yet none of it feels out of place and is fully organic to the world the show has set up, plus everything circles back to making things more tense for Cassian. I was also cackling quite a bit during the opening heist, and got surprisingly attached to Cassian's contact on the base. I imagine this was supposed to be the entire first arc of Season 2 and we would have seen a lot more of her, but both the script and actress still do a lot with a little. The part I was most looking forward to was your reaction to Krennic, which lived up to it. Just about every fan called that Ben showing up in The Bad Batch just to do one line indicated he was being prepped for more, so I can't really say it was a surprise, but it's always a treat to see him and especially fun to see his broader kind of villainy rubbing up against what we've come to know in this show. Also love him lording over getting information before Tarkin, when their working relationship will be more like "Do you feel in charge? You think this gives you power over me?" I remember a lot of people when the show started were assuming Dedra would have a face turn upon learning just how bad the Empire was, and I'm so glad the show went this way instead, which is way more interesting. Marvelous moment of everyone wanting to say "I'm not the only one seeing this, right?" while the film was playing, and the mention of Ghorman was a huge moment of "Oooooh, so we're really doing this, huh?" Speaking of, everything with Mon Mothma was a joy, aided incalculably by the filming location which adds a constant level of interest with all the little areas on different elevations that can facilitate all kinds of scenes. I'm aroace and the best I can do is "You're a beautiful woman, probably," but I like to think I can still recognize a nice outfit when it's warranted. I imagine Luthen being there is another casualty of having to crunch the story down, but it works really well to add a whole new level of danger to everything. Though we also get the one point so far where it feels like it hurt the show, as we probably were supposed to actually see Mon's daughter getting rebuffed by her fiance, and maybe some other humanizing moments, but as it is I'm having a very hard time feeling sorry for her after knowing her as nothing but an annoying, ungrateful brat, and I just wanted Mon to say "You made your bed, now lie in it." And then there's more of our title character, who has the bad luck to run into, quite frankly, exactly the kind of dipshits I can see making the New Republic. Yeah, keeping a bunch of rebel cells ignorant of each other so they can't inform on each other sounds good in theory, but then you run into them having no idea who each other are and no way to prove it, especially when the one smart person gets themselves killed. One other thought occurred to me, I've complained before about Saw Gerrera being a troublesome "angry black man who goes too gosh darn far" stereotype, but now that we've seen he's far from the only rebel like this and the others are such a wide array of people, that's suddenly much less of a problem. And once again, the comedy is all built around making things genuinely tense at the same time, so it doesn't feel at all out of place like, say, Jack Black and Lizzo could get. I'm so happy to have this show back, and to get to share it like this.

Tommy Lee Jones was such a fucking hypocrite saying that, not only for that movie but also when he'd already done Under Siege. I'll go for Syril Karn, and I'll say more if he's actually in this season. I mean, I'm sure he is, but it's really weird to only get Dedra here.

Of the live action shows, Andor is definitely the best one. Whether it’s people’s favorite, I leave that to personal choice. I still can’t pick a favorite of the shows, live action or animated. Heard that Gilroy intended for the five-year mission, and then simple reality tempered the ambition. Already, this is vastly more cohesive than the Flux. Helping is Gilroy does do well with the tell type of storytelling of creating very lived in worlds, and lots of that is conveyed through dialogue. Plus, the nearly fifty years of material for the franchise further helps. There is a surprising amount of humor in this opening. Loved Jess comparing it to her video game experience. As I said, working the harpoon and tow cable on the snow speeders was tricky, so I heard Jess on that one. They did well with the surprise and sudden investment in Cassian’s contact. Could see that she was meant to be a bigger role. Great thing of Star Wars, we have books, so I’d be down for more of her through that. Oh, I was anticipating the Krennic of it all. Have yet to actually discuss that with my brother, though I know he’s beyond ecstatic to get more of him. Following season one, it felt a likely possibility that we’d see him in this season. Ben’s three word cameo in Bad Batch does send up an alarm. Like I’ve discussed with my brother, he has that great thing of having such an overinflated ego where reality does not match it, yet he has the scenes that remind you he is a very dangerous man. Him lording over the fact that he got the information before Tarkin, (he thinks,) is a lovely thing of him preening like a peacock, which will inevitably be hard for him when he chokes on his aspirations as he did when dealing with the necessary evil that was Bane. Don’t recall thinking much that Dedra would turn good. Initial assessments, as I recall, were that she’d be a strikingly human imperial, whilst maintaining villainy. Then she doubled down on the villainy, making me happy as a clam. Like that they are committed to keeping her evil. That video has the energy of stuff you sit through at work, from my brother’s anecdotes, I think he’d say the same thing. The business with the Ghormans is making me wickedly happy, saying, “Everything is proceeding as I have foreseen.” Love going back into Mon Mothma’s story. Filming locations are grand. Regardless of sexuality/orientation, one can recognize a good outfit. Love how complex Mon’s looks are. Or it’s like how as someone who is (reasonably) hetero, (presumably) one can appreciate good looks. Like when Alain Delon died, how all the papers and articles online brought up how good looking he was, and he was the epitome of a preternaturally beautiful looking man. Pierce Brosnan’s one where I keep saying that it is not fair for a man to look that good. Suppose Luthen being at Chandrila is a result of the restructure, but when it means more of Stellan as Luthen, I’m not complaining. Leida could have used some extra screen time prior to the humanizing moment. There is the anger directed at her father for not being at all a father to her. And it would be all right for Mon to say I told you so. I don’t generally care for it, but it would be all right. Think the greater focus is on Mon, and what the sacrifice is costing her. You’re meant to be sadder for her rather than her daughter, much though one can have sympathy for the girl. Concerning the dipshits who likely are some of the high ups of the New Republic. There is some great Kubrickian humor of how it shows the flip side of the coin when it comes to keeping rebel cells in the dark for purposes of plausible deniability/no one can turn stoolie with sensitive information. I recall the Bad Batch season two finale where you mentioned how there is the trap of Saw feeling like the most negative and harmful stereotypes of Black Lives Matter. And yeah, I can see how showing he’s not the only rebel who’s like that, it smooths the complaint over. Helping further how it also shows that extremist though Saw is, he’s fairly committed to what he does. That “I’m here to fuck shit up. Either help with that or stay out of my goddamn way” mentality. This group is full of the petty squabbling that derails everything. And the humor is that perfect stressful humor like you see in a Coen Brothers film where it places you in Cassian’s place of feeling like say J. K. Simmons and David Rasche who are the comparatively sane ones trying desperately to figure out just what the hell is going on with all the madness. So goddamn happy that this show is back.
