As I state at the end of this video, the footage got corrupted and luckily my editor was able to fix it. However you will probably get a few glitches happening when watching the full reaction.

"I was beginning to fear you had lost yourself.", The Valeyard, "The Mysterious Planet" Please pass on thanks to your editor for making a seemless Full Reaction video. Horray - Doctor Who is BACK! There was an 18-month gap - it was put on hold in Spring 1985 and it's now Fall 1986. And, as you know, we're back to 25-minute episodes again. That "phenomenal" camera special-effect sequence was amazing for its time. It was Doctor Who's first use of a motion-control camera and took a week to film - it was the most expensive special effect Classic Who had ever made! BTW: You picked up on a closer relationship between the Doctor and Peri. Nicola said that they played the characters as if there had been the intervening season - so the characters would have grown closer over that time. But gosh - they cast lots of well-known actors for this first story of the season. "I see, Valeyard, that it is on record that the Doctor has faced trial already for offences of this nature.", The Inquisitor, "The Mysterious Planet" Oh, a "The War Games" reference! We love Who references - even if this one recalls a particularly annoying situation for you. The Inquisitor is played by Lynda Bellingham. She was known for her role in "All Creatures Great and Small" - actually as a "regenerated" role i.e. the second actor to play the same character. And, of course, "All Creatures Great and Small" was an early series role for Peter Davison - and one that brought him to attention of the new Classic Who producer. "Somehow I always feel foolish saying this. Take me to your leader.", Glitz, Glitz is played by Tony Selby. He had been in almost everything in his acting career. I remember him as a fake-Cockney rag-and-bone man (junk dealer) in "The Good Life". And you've heard his name before - in New Who - he was mentioned in "The Giggle". "Ah yes, The guns. They all had similar credentials.", Katryca, "The Mysterious Planet" Katryca is played by Joan Sims - yes, we have Joan Sims! - of "Carry On" fame! So, if we're talking "Carry On" alumni, we have people like Peter Butterworth (The Meddling Monk), Derek Francis (Nero), and Bernard Bresslaw (the first Ice Warrior). "Most mysterious of all the sacred texts. 'UK Habitats of the Canadian Goose' by HM Stationery Office.", Balazar, "The Mysterious Planet" I love Balazar's frequent references to the Canadian goose. "I think it best that you stand over here.", "Oh, why?", "Well in case some stray stone breaks the water jugs.", Balazar and the Doctor, "The Mysterious Planet" No, actually, I just love the character. "There is no fire. There has been no fire for hundreds of years.", Merdeen, "The Mysterious Planet" Merdeen is played by Tom Chadbon who we last saw standing on the Eiffel tower at the end of "City of Death" - I adore that story! "Only the young men who pass the selection.", "What selection?", "To find the two cleverest youths. They go to the castle.", Balazar and the Doctor, "The Mysterious Planet" Wait a minute, I know this idea - it's from "The Krotons"! Oh, ... it's the same author - never mind. And actually, now I come to mention it, the interplay between Glitz and Dibber is quite similar those lovable con men in "The Ribos Operation" - same author again. "Oh! Why'd you stop it at the best bit? I was rather enjoying that.", The Doctor, "The Mysterious Planet"

Kinda disappointed we didn't get a reaction to the new theme, but I get it may have something to do with some of the footage getting corrupted.

As I mentioned on youtube, I recall you did say in the one Daredevil reaction, as well as the separate post that you had the issues of the power being cut. Hate when that happens, or when people from the city are doing work with plumbing, landscaping, what have you, and they don’t give you much if any advance warning. I just remember thinking that in your shoes, that I would have been scared to film anything when you got the notice the following day when they did give you the heads up, as I hate being in the rhythm of doing something and you get the time cut short. Overall, the footage recovered was very good, looked great, a little glitchy at spots, but it plays well, so everything ends up good with that. I would have been very sorry if the footage had been lost as I vividly remember when that looked like it could have been the possibility of that happening with one of the biggest episodes of Game of Thrones. Just glad, Jess, that you still had the footage of the enjoyable reaction.

I haven't watched these episodes for a *long* time, so as is often the case it was fun to go back to them again in your company. I'm not the biggest fan of the trial format, but I do think this individual story itself has a great freshness to it. Baker's lighter, friendlier version of the Sixth Doctor is much more likeable for me, and interestingly there's quite a "New Who" feel to a lot of this one, I think. As is often the case in his scripts, Robert Holmes' excellent skill for world-building is well on display. Thank you for prompting me to go back to this story for the first time in a while!
