Solid episode this week. Alicia Witt was a surprise, making me say, “Oh, damn, she’s in this?” She’s got a Daryl Hannah thing going on, it’s nice. Love how they set up her character of Lily, where you initially question what her goal is, you find you have sympathy towards her desire for revenge, then you learn it runs deeper than that, and it becomes near impossible to root against her. Obviously, as you said, had she done in Castiel, the fans would not take kindly to that, but considering her past, hard to blame her if she had killed Castiel. With this, you get a glimpse of Castiel’s past, and not a particularly cheerful glimpse. The contrast of then versus now was good. Quite liked how you clocked Ishim rather quickly. Especially loved how when he talked shit, you spoke for the boys with the, “He can’t talk shit about Castiel. Only WE can talk shit about Castiel.” mentality. You admit to being too sassy with Ishim, yeah, but that’s why we love ya, Jess. Never change. It’s funny too as I see your reaction to Ian Tracey, I pause to look up what it is you know him in. Look through the list, say, “Well, there’s one Stargate appearance.” then I notice, “Ok, recurring on The 4400, I know Jess said she watched that.” Then you catch the Bates Motel of it all, and I said, “Ah, well, all right, that explains it.” This being before you explicitly mentioned Bates Motel in the reaction, so dummy me, I could have just played a waiting game. Love Jared selling Sam’s talk with Lily where he shows great empathy for her. Alicia, likewise, sells, as you expressed loving, Lily’s patient nature, revenge-wise, and it’s great how she sold Lily rather appreciating Sam’s words. Everyone worked in the final fight. Love it how Castiel accepts a probable death. Love how that got you too when he said that he acknowledges that ignorance is no excuse, and that if Lily feels she can’t forgive him and still wishes to kill him, then he won’t fight. Gets you how Lily is appreciative of that. And it ties into Castiel’s accountability over his killing Billie, which initially leads to the frostiness from Dean. I do like how Dean clarifies that it’s not so much what Castiel did that’s the issue. He’s appreciative of that. His issue is the matter of the cosmic consequences, that, as you said, he’s experienced time and time again. Good on Castiel for being man enough to say basically that he’ll bear the weight of it when they come to it. There is also still the matter of the Rosemary’s Baby deal. Castiel posits the theory that I would have, which is to get drunk, because I’m all out of ideas. Other quick highlights. The opening scene where the one bar worker was trying to get the angel to leave, and how you said, “When the people working tell you to wrap it up, you wrap it up.”, yeah, well, at retail establishments, they like to stay for QUITE some time past closing time. So, much though I appreciate your stance, Jess, the optimism isn’t exactly shared there. Second, of course you would have words about the waste of coffee, overwhelmed by sugar or not. I mean, that much sugar in the coffee, it probably tastes horrible, but yeah, it is a waste of good coffee. Reminds too how it’s been a long time now since cutting out the cream and sugar in the coffee, and it’s felt phenomenal. Just, this was a really good episode, and an equally nice reaction, Jess, thank you.
