"Everyone has a point, nowadays. I am a man of action, not reason.", King Yrcanos, "Mindwarp" There are some delightful lines from King Yrcanos in this story. And lots of over-the-top shouting. Brian Blessed is just perfect for this character. "Excellency, welcome. Please, please, rest yourself.", Kiv, "Mindwarp" Do we recognize the Posicarian delegate? No, not really - but the face might be slightly familiar because the mask was recycled from the Terileptil mask constructed for "The Visitation". The movement artist inside was Deep Roy - we saw him as Mr Sin in "The Talons of Weng-Chiang". "I'm sorry about the noise. He does so enjoy his work.", The Doctor, "Mindwarp" I do like the old Mentor that doesn't like Yrcanos shouting all the time. "Warm. Not cold. My body is warm. Wonderful. Legs. Toes.", Peri/Kiv, "Mindwarp" Apparently, Nicola used her normal British accent rather than her American "Peri" accent for the Kiv voice modulation. Well, anyway, I found it interesting. "Whatever made you take me out of time when you did? I remember it all. I was on my way to save Peri.", The Doctor, "Mindwarp" No! "And what of the Earth woman's mind?", "Gone. Mentally, she no longer exists.", Sil and Crozier, "Mindwarp" No! "You're using Yrcanos as an assassin.", "It was judged by the High Council as the most acceptable way, and Yrcanos will never know that he was used.", The Doctor and the Inquisitor, "Mindwarp" No! "No! No! No!", King Yrcanos, "Mindwarp" No, not Peri! "I won't lie - I am shocked and stunned by that ending.", sesskasays, Reaction to "Mindwarp" Jaw-droppingly shocking ending. Nicola? "I loved the shaved head, the mind transplant and Yrcanos blowing my body to smithereens. It was dramatic, poignant and shocking.", Nicola Bryant

Colin couldn’t fathom how to play certain scenes in Mindwarp (was the Doctor play acting to gain the Mentor’s confidence or was he really scrambled by the brain machine?) so he asked Eric Saward, the script editor who referred him to Philip Martin, the writer, who then referred him back to Saward… It’s only on the commentary track for the DVD/Blu Ray that Colin finally got satisfaction from Philip Martin regarding the Doctor’s true motivation… I knew this one would get under your skin, Sesska! It’s quite a brutal and shocking end for a companion and tonally, I think its the darkest that Classic Who ever achieved.
