"Your colleague is aiming the Hyperion III into the eye of the Black Hole of Tartarus!", The Doctor, "Terror of the Vervoids" This is a perfectly servicable Classic Who story. It reminds me of the style and design of some of the 70s stories - I always think back to "The Robots of Death". "Satiable curtiosity, like the Elephant's Child.", "Never mind the 'Just So' stories.", The Doctor and Mel, "Terror of the Vervoids" A Rudyard Kipling reference - and some kids would have got it! I like Mel too - but what a scream she has! "We must not make animal-kind aware of our existence. They still outnumber us. If we are to kill them all, we must hunt them down secretly.", Vervoid, "Terror of the Vervoids" We have to talk about the Vervoid design - but I won't. Er, ... maybe, perhaps if they had altered a color here or there and changed ... - no, no, I'm not talking about it. There's a story that one of the Doctor Who magazines put out an issue with a Vervoid on the cover - only to get a frantic call saying that the cover was unsuitable for a children's magazine. "See if Janet has got the tape. But Mel, be careful.", The Doctor, "Terror of the Vervoids" According to Jane Baker, they hadn't revealed who was the culprit to the production team with the first scripts - and learned later that there were bets about who it was - Janet, the stewardess, was a prime suspect, as she had the best access around the ship. But, lots of people actually are culpable - if it hadn't been for various people's individual particular bits of skulduggery (replace with sesskasays's favorite equivalent) much of this wouldn't have happened. "Article seven permits no exceptions. The Doctor has destroyed a complete species. The charge must now be genocide.", The Valeyard, "Terror of the Vervoids"

Nice to see that you are continuing to enjoy the story reasonably well. I hear you on reserving going into more intricate thoughts and analysis until after the story is concluded. As I’m sure will be commented ad nauseam on youtube, a notable highlight of the episode is the Vervoids, with a, um, how do I phrase this nicely, they, well, they have the very distinctive appearance. Your reactions to that were most memorable. You say you have questions as to who designed them, and the thought process. Be an interesting conversation, I’d imagine. The Vervoids do make Giger’s designs look subtle, which is a hell of an accomplishment. Quite enjoy how you made the comment of Professor Lasky being in the middle of a workout. Yeah, she needs to be in tip-top shape for leading the flight that’ll unleash the nerve gas onto Fort Knox. Shame to see her get killed. There is some interesting musical dissonance with this story. And yes, it does grow on you past a point. Nice that you defend Mel. The comments about all Mel does is scream, sounds like Kate Capshaw reading the script for Temple of Doom, where she had the question, “Does this woman do anything but scream?” about Willie. And like yourself, I like Mel. She gets a good showing here. And honestly, I make the comparison to Willie in Temple of Doom, that’s a character that grows on you as you get older. Helping is that the response from Indy and Short Round indicates that you are meant to be annoyed by Willie, and even then, she did have her moments. And Kate was always hysterical and completely wonderful as Willie, which you appreciate as the years go by. Here, Bonnie, though she has perhaps an odd introduction as Mel, she steps up and earns our admiration pretty early. Bringing us to the Valeyard. Love how so done you are with him. It does reach a point where you note, “You’re just making this shit up as you go along.” as you see him spin the trial against the Doctor. His shenanigans are cruel and tragic. Which... makes them not shenanigans at all, really. Evil shenanigans they are. As I mentioned on youtube, I derived great delight from your joyous reaction to that scene where the Mogarian sent the coffee tray flying. Lord was your laughter there so lovely and infectious and wonderful. Thanks for the fun reaction, Jess.

I would totally get someone not being into Mel if this was all they had to go on, but coming to it after her time in the last couple years is a big advantage.
