Doctor Who has got a brand new face For travelling in Time and travelling in Space. But no matter how far he goes he'll find He can't leave bloody Bonnie Langford behind. - The "Doctor Who" Calypso - ISIHAC - s14e07 I like Mel (and Bonnie), but that's still funny, I assume this was written because at this point Bonnie was everywhere on TV. "Carrot juice, carrot juice, carrot juice!", The Doctor, "The Ultimate Foe" To misquote the 9th Doctor in "The Doctor Dances": those turned out to be terrible last words for the 6th Doctor. "Doctor WHO" I like the new logo, the new opening sequence and Keff McCulloch's new arrangement of the theme and his incidental music in this story. We have a new script editor as well. "Leave the girl. It's the man I want. Take him to my laboratory.", The Rani, "Time and the Rani" Yes, it's Sylvester McCoy playing both the 6th Doctor and the newly-minted 7th. Colin offered to return for a full season with a regeneration at the end - but he declined to return for just a single regeneration story. I recall seeing Sylvester McCoy on "Vision On" - a BBC show for children with hearing impairment but, basically a fun show for anyone. BTW: another segment making a frequent appearance were the clay-animated puppets Morph and Aard-man - from the people who went on to form the "Aardman Animations" company. Sylvester McCoy auditioned opposite Janet Fielding (Tegan) although Janet was portraying a Maggie Thatcher-style villain. "Ah, thank goodness in this regeneration I've regained my impeccable sense of haute couture.", The Doctor, "Time and the Rani" I alway enjoy the Doctor's costume selection scene - with the various previous costumes. "Where am I? Who am I? And who are you? The Rani! Stay back!", The Doctor, "Time and the Rani" Hey, it's the Rani! Whatever happened to her? "Why are you doing this?", "To make sure he suffers a healthy dose of amnesia when he wakes.", Beyus and the Rani, "Time and the Rani" And thus begins the fun Mel-cosplay. "Mop my brow!", The Doctor, "Time and the Rani" The Doctor plays the spoons! I could be wrong but I think Sylvester always tried to get his character playing the spoons in whatever he was in. But, I don't think Radagast ever played the spoons - that would be too silly. "No, seems pretty far gone. Need a genius to unravel it.", "But you're a genius.", "Oh yes, I definitely remember that.", The Doctor and the Rani cosplaying Mel, "Time and the Rani" Ok, the amnesia didn't go that far. "Geniuses, every one of them. The Rani's collected together the most creative minds and the most powerful matter in the universe.", "She's a murderess. Sarn was not her first victim. There've been many.", "The scope of her imagination is breathtaking.", The Doctor and Faroon, "Time and the Rani" Hey, it's Wanda Ventham again! We've seen her in "The Faceless Ones" and "Image of the Fendahl". It is recorded that Wanda's son, a young Benedict Cumberbatch, accompanied her to the set. "Nine five three.", "Did you hear a voice, or am I hallucinating?", Beyus and the Doctor, "Time and the Rani" And it's Donald Pickering playing Beyus. He was in "The Keys of Marinus" but more memorably as Blade's duplicate in "The Faceless Ones". Hey, we have "The Faceless Ones" alumni! "More hasta less vista.", The Doctor, "Time and the Rani"

Hell of a thing getting hit with a surprise regeneration on a day that you were not planning to record a Classic Who reaction. And as I knew from the recent New Who finale, you filmed this before that, so the Mel and the Rani of it all, what fortuitous circumstance be this. The flip side is that you have two abrupt regenerations back-to-back, though at least Ncuti got a final story. Still upset about not finding out about the time of that episode’s premiere until I found out there was no episode available at two in the morning, and I then had to look it up, and then before going to bed, I grumbled, “And, I’m sorry, BBC, when were you guys going to mention anything about that?” Unless they were more vocal about that across the pond. Here in the states, they did not advertise the special time for the recent New Who finale. But that’s just me venting now. Going back to this story. You clocked correctly that Colin wasn’t even in this for his regeneration. And the episode just opens with the attack from the Rani, love your gasp seeing her again. Leading to a regeneration that blindsides you more than you were then when Abby killed Joel. I was blown away by the reaction you had to Six’s regeneration. There was the behind-the-scenes drama, that I see some of the other fellas have gone into. You speak the truth that Six just regenerated before you could even properly process what the fuck just happened. Makes you feel like you’ve been had. Hoodwinked. Bamboozled. I guess it shows how thrown for a loop you are when you sound Battlestar rather than actually swearing or cursing. Leads to the debut of Sylvester McCoy as our dear Seventh Doctor. He is one that I greatly appreciate. Already, you expressed praise for Sylvester in the role. Makes it interesting how the Doctor himself puts himself down for having a poor first impression for falling for the Rani’s chicanery. Better than strangling Peri in the last incarnation, yes? Seven rocked the coat pretty well, if I’m being honest. I get reserving discussions about the story as you are needing to process. The Rani disguising herself as Mel was a hoot, no wonder Mel was salty upon seeing her in the recent New Who finale. The outfit was not the Rani’s color. You spoke of the Rani having some good lines. She is the villain. The villains always get the best lines. The Rani’s also got some sort of deadly Glinda trap, I kind of live for it. Shared reaction to the needle, with me saying, “Jeezaloo, Rani, where’d you get that big fucker?” I adored your rather sweet reaction to the rather sweet moment when the Doctor figures out that Mel is Mel, that got me. Love how you say you now understand the reputation that Mel has, and even then, you’re not mad about the set of lungs that she’s got. Like I said, she does Fay Wray and Evelyn Ankers proud. A spot of trouble with the asteroid headed toward Lakertya. I don’t know the science, but... It’s bad luck Lakertya. That’s about all I have to say about the story for now. Appreciated the words you had to say about Colin and Sylvester both. The big shame of Colin’s run being as cut short as it was. You spoke of how there was the potential for him to have had a terrific run, and that is greatly unfortunate how he never got that. Him and Jodie as Thirteen who’s just above him for least favorite Doctors, they’re great, and they could have really shined so brightly, yet the politics behind-the-scenes, Chibnall utterly failing Jodie in Thirteen’s case, they never do reach the heights that they could have. Even so, you expressed lovely words, and that gets a man right in the heart. You inquired about Six’s run being the shortest of Doctors. It’s not. Christopher as Nine has the shortest televised run. And one of the shortest runs altogether, given Paul’s had lots of Big Finish adventures as Eight, and the legendary John had the longer special to appear as War, and he had a series of Big Finish that pushes him above Nine in terms of length of a run. Though I know that there is new, or at least planned Big FInish with Nine, so that might change. Television, as I see Azmat commented, in terms of series headliners, Nine is the shortest. Ncuti as the Doctor just surpasses Nine in terms of his run, and Colin is above him. As I say, a hell of a thing getting this regeneration so out of left field, then we both got sucker punched by Ncuti’s surprise regeneration. In any case, this reaction was great, Jess, looking forward to the reactions to the conclusion of Seven’s debut.

Bonnie Langford's screaming ability goes way back. One of her earliest roles as a child actor as Violet Elizabeth Bott in a show called Just William. Violet was a spoilt rich girl whose favourite threat when someone annoyed her was "I'll scream and scream and scream until I'm sick!"
