Another occasion where I don’t know what it is, but your hair looks great. Likewise, oh, I love the green on your nails, Jess. No apologies necessary about the emergency, which I am relieved to hear you say that everything is ok. Now to the season premiere of the third and final season of Squid Game. We start out with the heaviness. Good on Woo-seok being suspicious of the captain, leading you to call him your king, even though that title is reserved for 3PO. Good on Woo-seok for telling Jun-ho. Jun-ho, understandably, as you say, has a hard time buying what Woo-seok is saying, yet it feels like something is going to gnaw at him that’s going to lead to him giving more thought to Woo-seok’s words. Certainly, based on comments that I and Ryan made last season, you’ll have the company in hoping that we don’t have the whole season of the captain’s chicanery. Heartbreaking to see the full fallout of the failed rebellion. No-eul is revealed to be the one who shot the dad. You did mention that idea, and I noted that the thought was popular. Nice that it’s revealed with little fanfare. She is making an effort to save the dad, complete with TERRIBLE needle scenes, hated that. We both HATED the needles. The dad getting something along the lines of a happy ending... Well, it’s... Something, if indeed it happens, which I do not know at the present time. Heart goes out to Gi-hun in this. In-ho is watching things play out. And now he lets Gi-hun live, for he does not fear death. He welcomes it as seen in that scene with Gi-hun demanding that the pink soldier kill him. Thus In-ho has decided that Gi-hun’s punishment must be more severe. In-ho, he’s serving the Dark Side energy which says that he would make an excellent Sith Lord. Which is rather fitting as Lee Byung-hun is on my list for ideal casting for Darth Revan. Yes, he is somewhat older than the character is established to be in the one major story that we wish to see adapted. But we also established flexibility, character age-wise with Ki-Adi-Mundi, despite the fucking crybabies throwing the fit. So, who’s to say that Byung-hun couldn’t be our dear beloved Darth Revan. And now we get word that the Eyes Wide Shut motherfuckers are arriving, love to see we’re both unenthused about that one. Love Geum-ja continuing to be the loveliest soul. Fair response that you continue to refer to Geum-ja as Ma, as I see a lot of my mom in the character, and it makes me project heavily onto her. Anticipated the “Shut the fuck up.” reaction to Jeong-dae. I had the “I am in NO MOOD.” reaction to him myself. Likewise, you said, “Some of you fuck around too much.”, that about matches my response to miss shaman lady’s shit where I said, “See? You fuck around. You find out.” Yong-sik, it makes the heart sink how he tries to point out about Dae-ho, and that gets Gi-hun to indulge in the Michael Myers look, as you described. I recall how you assessed him having the trauma. Others have theorized about he was never a marine. I assess either the trauma, or he was in the marines, he just never saw combat. People debating this are conveniently overlooking the fact of In-ho being in the mix as he was greatly responsible for the plan going off the rails. The vote goes for the games continuing, leading to this Hide-and-Seek game. I got so fucking upset seeing mother and son on opposite sides. Whilst I do hear you on not wishing death on people, it was nice to see Jeong-dae panic some. LOVED your “SIR!” in response to him trying to switch places with Gi-hun. We share the response to the wingman of the rapper having his scenes with Min-su. Similarly, we have a difficult read on the crypto guy. The mother and son scenes fucked with me so badly. The thing I was most worried about. Bad though those scenes got to you, you handled them MUCH better than I did. My fucking luck that this show picked the premiere date that it did, as I’m just yelling, “It’s my mom’s birthday today! So, please feel free not to hold it against me for not watching anymore today! All right!?” Wise strategy of sticking with Hyun-ju, as you say that would be your strategy. As to the big problem, copyright-wise, sorry to hear that it’s still a problem. I did check a few times about the reactions, checked again in the week leading up to the premiere, and I’m sad to see that you’ve had no success in getting the reactions back up, and that Netflix is coming for you. Hope the situation is resolved soon. Until then, I enjoyed this reaction, Jess, thank you.

I rewatched Season 2 over the last week, which really re-emphasized what a slog it is compared to Season 1, except for the games themselves. So it's a good sign that despite not getting any actual game playing in this episode, it's way more engaging than anything we saw before. Just like the current season of The Bear, they were forced to split what was intended for a single season in half, and the relief that they now get to focus on where all that stuff was going is palpable. And it's especially impressive that it's all pulled off despite essentially losing the main character, with Gi-hun being near catatonic until the very end. The stuff on the boat...I can't say I'm actually interested that much in it, but at least something worthwhile is actually happening there now. Who could have predicted at the start of last season that Choi would be easily the most engaging part of this whole subplot? And I'm already digging his techie friend; maybe they can get a whole Leverage crew together after this. Yeah, I don't know why I gasped at the hanging bodies either. Although it does bring up, does no one notice that In-ho has totally disappeared, not being with the players or strung up? I guess I can buy that the possibility is so outside anyone's suspicions that they wouldn't notice, but it would be nice to get just one line mentioning it. Never thought I'd see the look on Gi-hun's face that he keeps giving Dae-ho, like he's Emily Blunt refusing to shake someone's hand. You already massacred a bunch of innocent witches, is that not enough for you? The episode's whole second half just flies by despite being nothing but people talking in a single room, because there's that many different dynamics to play around with, all interesting in their own way. And from the looks of things, the entire next episode is going to be hide and seek, and if it's anything like how the fourth game went last time, we should be prepared for some serious pain. Giving everyone a knife in a gift box, pretty fitting for a show where Communism is just a red herring, and there's clearly going to be a lot more money in the pig before this is over. Even tug of war didn't involve the players killing each other this directly, and a lot of them are going to need to decide for themselves, sooner or later, how much sin they can live with. Really, what else was anyone expecting from this show?

I don't have much problem with needles, with the only times they've really freaked me out being Requiem for a Dream and The Substance. Mostly I was just thinking "Careful you don't rip it out with how you're waving that gun around." With the staring, my mind went to Lee Ashworth from Broadchurch, played by Jarvis from Agent Carter who loves to glare evilly from distant hilltops, including one really funny bit where he rings a doorbell, and is already in position on the hill when the door is answered a few seconds later, implying he just really booked it over there.

Haven’t rewatched any of the past seasons prior to this season. Nice to hear you’re having a better time with the first episode of this season than you did with last season. Still not seen The Bear, though I’ll take your word for it. Yeah, Gi-hun does more or less sit this one out. I remember your issues with the boat scenes, and it does feel like they’re getting ready to stop twiddling their thumbs on that one. A Leverage crew would be all right. For that matter, no one seems to notice the dad not being there either. True no one seems to clock In-ho not among the dead. What you said, “the possibility is so outside anyone’s suspicions that they wouldn’t notice”, combine that with basic shock and horror at the spectacle, I’ll buy that. Could use a quick lampshade about In-ho. Gi-hun is serving that Kitty Oppenheimer glare, or like you said, Lee in Broadchurch, that one scene that you highlighted being unintentionally fucking funny as all hell. Technically, Trinity is the one that killed all the witches, save for Aniseya as he did kill her when she tried turning into Tim Curry in Ferrngully, so point taken. It is impressive how the episode doesn’t drag, even though there’s not any action. Like you said, the myriad of dynamics that you can explore in differing ways. Leading into the hide and seek. Disclosure: saw the next episode late last night, but no further than that at the present time. Not saying anything about it until we get to the next reaction. Just seeing the set-up increases the dread as, like you note, even the tug-of-war, the players didn’t kill the other players in such a direct manner. You just feel awful for all the players. Well, maybe not Jeong-dae or shaman lady, though it is amusing to see how Jess hates them SO much, it-it- the f - it -flam - flames. Flames, on the side of her face, breathing-breathl- heaving breaths. Heaving breaths... Heathing... And we leave things there as we ponder the Nucky Thompson ponderance.
